Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio, Ribera del Duero 2012 750ML ($44.95) $36.60 pre-arrival special
Case-12 Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio, Ribera del Duero 2012 750ML ($479.95) $399 pre-arrival special (that’s only $33.25/bottle!)
Wine Advocate 94 points “The current vintage for the crianza is 2012. The 2012 Crianza, from a dry vintage, resulted much fresher than expected, fresher than 2009 and 2011 in fact. The vines are dry-farmed and were planted some 22 years ago, and you might say they have matured by now. The approximate mixture of grapes in their vineyards is mostly Tempranillo with some 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 2% Malbec, and it’s more or less the blend in this wine. The Cabernet works well, providing finesse and some acidity to the Tempranillo….The wine matured in 20% new French oak barrels for some 20 months. There are no traces of the barriques and the nose took me to the Riberas of yesteryear, with some subtle rusticity; it’s ripe without excess and there’s good balance between fruit, spices and perhaps something earthy. The palate is extremely balanced, medium-bodied with very fine tannins, tasty, approachable and long. This could very well be the best crianza ever produced at Monasterio. This has to be one of the bargains of the vintage in Ribera, given the quality it deliver”

Delas Freres
The Les Bessards bottling is the top cuvee from the 160 year-old winery, Delas Freres. It is a selection of the oldest parcels in the Bessards vineyard in the heart of the hill of Hermitage. The wine is only produced in exceptional years exclusively from hand-harvested Syrah. Hermitage wines are known for their ability to age for decades – so it’s a rare treat to encounter a matured, winery-cellared example of such pedigree.
We are proud to offer the 2004 Les Bessards from Delas Freres:
Delas Freres Hermitage Les Bessards 2004 750ML ($199.95) $149 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 94 points “Ruby-red. Very pungent, deep aromas of tobacco- and underbrush-laced red and blackcurrant. Powerful and rich, showing impressive sweetness to its potent cassis and blackberry flavors. Really stains the palate, finishing with exceptional purity and mineral tones. Whatever tannins are here (and you know there are plenty) are completely absorbed by the sheer fruit mass.”

Delas Freres Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes-Marquise de la Tourette 2013 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Wine Advocate 94 points “One of the gems in the vintage is the 2013 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes, which comes from both the Bessards and Grandes Vignes lieux-dits on Hermitage Hill. Completely destemmed, then vinified in stainless steel and concrete tanks, the wine is aged 18 months in 30% new French oak; it offers terrific notes of dark fruits, graphite and ample minerality in a full-bodied, layered, ripe profile. It’s more approachable than the Les Bessards, yet will still have three decades of longevity.”
Delas Freres Hermitage Les Bessards 2013 750ML ($249.95) $199 special
Wine Advocate 94+ points “Closed, tight and backwards, the 2013 Hermitage les Bessards is a big, full-bodied, burly wine that offers first rate purity in its black raspberry, ozone, liquid rock, and creosote-like bouquet. It has plenty of material and density, but will need 7-8 years of bottle age to become approachable. As normal, it comes all from the “Bas de Coteau” portion of the Bessards lieu-dit, was completely destemmed and saw 18 months in 30% new French oak.”
Delas Freres Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos 2004 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 89 points “Medium red. Strong mineral notes accent fresh cherry and earthier tobacco and floral aromas. Solid and firmly structured, with a racy quality to the bright cherry and rhubarb flavors. This should age very well.”
Delas Freres Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos 2006 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Robert Parker 92 points “The stunning, dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Crozes-Hermitage Les Clos exhibits smoky, roasted meat, garrigue, blackberry, cassis, new saddle leather, and charcoal aromas, sweet tannins, full-bodied power, and reserves of concentration and fruit. Consume it over the next decade. This cuvee has become one of the top three or four wines of the appellation. ”
Wine Spectator 92 points “Very racy, with dark fig and black cherry fruit crushed together, while hints of iron, mesquite and tobacco fill out the finish. Shows great drive and precision, despite its ample toast.”
Delas Freres Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Wine Advocate 93+ points “Similar to the Domaine des Grands Chemins, yet with additional structure, the inky purple/ruby colored 2013 Crozes Hermitage le Clos has lots of minerality in its smoky, meaty, dark fruited profile. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, structured yet balanced, give it 2-4 years of cellaring and enjoy over the following decade or more.”

2011 Brunello
Newly Arrived!
“The best 2011 Brunellos are racy, open-knit and seductive, all qualities that make them well-suited for near to medium-term drinking.” –Antonio Galloni-Vinous Media
Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 750ML ($39.95) $33 special
Case-12 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 750ML ($419.95) $359 special (that’s only $29.92/bottle!)
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a terrific wine for the year. Sweet red cherry, plum, tobacco, mint, sweet spices and orange peel are all front and center. This is a gorgeous 2011 Brunello that represents everything the vintage can be; open-knit, accessible and polished. I don’t expect the 2011 will be a long-term ager, but it is exceptionally beautiful and delicious today.”

2013 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Arriving This Month!
The very first 2013 Châteauneuf-du-Pape will be arriving at our shop later this month, and we’re excited to preview this particularly cellar-worthy vintage. The 2013 vintage is custom-made for lovers of more structured and serious wines: a throw-back to more classic vintages. Josh Raynolds from Vinous Media writes: “While I can’t say that I have tried a lot of 2013s that stray far from most producers’ house styles, many of the wines from this vintage do show more structure and darker fruit character than usual, especially those wines that contain a healthy dose of Mourvèdre… That bright acidity actually gives many of the wines early appeal for their freshness, but there’s a backbone to the best wines as well, which makes many ‘13s solid cellar candidates.”
2013 Vieux Telegraphe Arriving in April 12th
Vignobles Brunier Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2013 750ML ($79.95) $69 pre-arrival special
Josh Raynolds 91-93 points “Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed red fruit aromas are complicated by lavender, smoky minerals and white pepper. Spicy and seamless on the palate, displaying vibrant flavors of black raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastilles along with an exotic touch of blood orange. Finishes with resonating spiciness and smooth, harmonious tannins.”
Wine Spectator 92 points “Rather perfumy up front, with savory, mint and incense notes leading the way for silky cherry and raspberry coulis flavors. The finish is lined with subtle tobacco, warm stone and floral hints, ending with a light balsam twinge. This should put on some weight with age. Best from 2017 through 2026.” WS

2012 Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco
The 2012 Barbarescos in general are more open and ready to drink, according to Antonio Galloni. Yet the 2012 release from Produttori del Barbaresco offers a greater promise of structure and longevity than many. Produttori’s leader, Aldo Vacca, shows a consistent attention to quality over quick profit and has steadily modernized only where necessary. His long term view could be the key to the continued success in even more challenging vintages.
Produttori del Barbaresco 2012 Arrives Fall 2016:
Produttori del Barbaresco ‘Barbaresco DOCG’ 2012 750ML ($37.95) $28 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 93 points “A pretty red, boasting floral, strawberry and raspberry flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, creating a balanced impression. Best from 2017 through 2027.”
Antonio Galloni 92 points “A big, powerful wine, the 2012 Barbaresco hits the palate with surprising depth allied to nervous tannins that are going to need time to soften. Tobacco, smoke, licorice, menthol, game and a host of dark, ferrous notes give the wine much of its virile personality. The 2012 is not as finessed as some recent vintages, yet it offers considerable potential for the future. Most importantly, it is a terrific value at a time when well-priced Barbaresco is increasingly hard to find. In 2012, the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. When that happens, the straight Barbaresco is often an overachiever. That is certainly the case here, as the 2012 offers outstanding quality for the money, with plenty of potential for the future. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much pleasure and value.”

Antonio Galloni 94 points “Pomegranate, wild cherries, flowers, mint, leather and sweet spices abound in the 2011 Granato. Sexy and radiant to the core, the Granato is especially seamless in this vintage, with voluptuous fruit, silky tannins and exceptional overall balance. I imagine the 2011 will provide consumers with a wide window of drinking pleasure. Today, the fruit is naturally quite primary, so readers who prefer more shades of nuance will want to cellar the 2011 for at least a few years.”AG

Foradori Morei Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, Trentino-Alto Adige 2011 1.5L ($119.95) Now $89, 1 magnum available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “It’s fascinating to taste the 2011 Teroldego Morei next to the Sgarzon. Here the flavors are more intensely savory and mineral-driven. This parcel is planted on an old river bed rich in rocks and sand, a terroir that gives the wine much of its distinct personality. The Morei shows a bit less opulence than the Sgarzon, but also more length and tension. Pomegranate, plum, sage, smoke, violets and graphite add nuance on the brilliant finish.”AG

Foradori Morei Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, Trentino-Alto Adige 2012 1.5L ($119.95) Now $89, 2 magnums available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “Foradori’s Teroldego Morei is once again compelling in 2012. A host of intensely savory/mineral notes meld into a core of dense dark red and black stone fruits. Grilled herbs, lavender and smoke follow, adding considerable aromatic intrigue. Big tannins support the huge, explosive finish in a wine endowed with magnificent complexity and pedigree. The dark, brooding finish is particularly of note. Today, the 2012 stands out for its superb complexity and undeniable pedigree. The Morei was vinified and aged in upright terra cotta amphorae.”AG

Foradori Vigneto Sgarzon Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, Trentino-Alto Adige 2012 1.5L ($119.95) Now $89, 1 magnum available
Antonio Galloni 93 points “The 2012 Teroldego Sgarzon wraps around the palate with the essence of dark raspberries, smoke, licorice, iron, mint, rose petals and sweet spices. A wine of pure polish and voluptuousness, the 2012 will drink beautifully pretty much right out of the gate. Radiant, supple and forward in its expression of fruit, yet with plenty of underlying structure, the Sgarzon stands out from the more virile, imposing Morei. Both wines are striking, though. The Sgarzon was vinified and aged in upright terra cotta amphorae.”AG

Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “Bright ruby. Sexy, smoke-tinged aromas of red and dark berry preserves, candied flowers and mocha, with a hint of sandalwood in the background. Sappy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated blackberry, cherry-cola and rose pastille flavors that tighten up on the back half. This suave, seamless wine finishes with excellent clarity and length, its silky tannins building slowly.”
Round Pond Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 2012 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Dark red and black fruit, smoke, licorice, new leather and cedar blossom in the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (formerly Bovet). Robert Parker 92 points “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec, is a beauty. It’s also realistically priced by Napa standards. The wine reveals toasty oak, blackberry and cassis fruit, beautiful texture, purity and length. This is a big-time winner and should drink well for 12-15 years.”
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Round Pond’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is fabulous. Aromatic, pliant and expressive, the 2013 is incredibly nuanced for such a young wine. Sweet red plum, wild flowers, mint and cinnamon meld together in a medium-bodied, gracious Cabernet that will drink well with minimal cellaring.”

Case-12 Domaine Servin Vaillons, Chablis Premier Cru 2014 750ML ($419.95) $299 special (that’s only $24.92/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons comes from the vineyard that Marc Cameron believes has improved the most in recent years. It has a fragrant bouquet with touches of yellow flowers and cold flint, opening up with hints of orange blossom with aeration. The palate is well balanced with an almost shrill opening that needs to calm down by the time of bottling, though there is good weight and fruit intensity to soak that up. Good potential here, though it needs to tame that initial feisty side of its personality.”

Coming from a mix of Stillwater Creek, Seven Hills and Lawrence vineyards, this rock-star barrel sample has medium to full-bodied richness, fabulous purity and fine tannin that frame the finish. It should be relatively civilized on release, yet evolve gracefully for 15 years.”

2011 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino
Premiers in May
“Casanova di Neri did a terrific job with these two 2011 Brunellos [this and the Tenuta di Nuova]. The wines are ample, rich and beautifully textured. In other words; classic Neri.” –Antonio Galloni-Vinous Media
Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 750ML ($59.95) $44.90 pre-arrival special, ETA May 2016
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Casanova di Neri’s 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a very pretty and expressive wine. Sweet red cherry, menthol, rose petal and mint open up first, followed by a touch of blood orange that adds lovely aromatic lift and brightness throughout. Although not especially complex, the 2011 should drink beautifully for at least a handful of years. Today, it is quite pretty and expressive.”
Wine Advocate 92 points “Giacomo Neri has produced a very approachable wine in this warm vintage. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is plump and juicy with loads of dark fruit and mild spice at the back. It doesn’t have the depth or complexity of the gorgeous 2010 vintage, but the wine does a very good job presenting the main traits you look for in Brunello. The fruit is lively and the acidity gives the wine a sense of buoyancy and brightness. The tannins are very well integrated. It doesn’t reach Brunello greatness, but it is a good Brunello.”

Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 750ML ($119.95) $79 pre-arrival special, ETA May 2016
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “This is another fabulous wine from Giacomo Neri. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a deeply layered expression with bold tones of dark fruit that are softened and enhanced by spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. The wine is very beautiful and polished with slightly less depth and complexity compared the outstanding (100 point) vintage that precedes it. Despite the vintage variation, this is a wine of enormous pedigree and importance. It is generous and confident with a presentation that offers purity, intensity and persistence.”
James Suckling 94 points “A red with earthy, meaty, salty, ripe fruit aromas and flavors. Full body with round, velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. So much richness and depth. Needs at least a year or two to come together.”
Antonio Galloni 93 points “The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is dark, sensual and inviting, with lovely textural depth and fine balance. Macerated dark cherry, plum, smoke, lavender and spice flesh out in a succulent, expressive Brunello that should drink well with minimal cellaring.”

Crowley
Tyson Crowley founded Crowley Wines in 2005 after working for several wineries in the Willamette Valley (with Erath and Brick House, among others) and New Zealand. He worked as the assistant winemaker at Cameron where he produced his first bottling of Entre Nous. Crowley sources grapes from family-owned vineyards in cooler, high-elevation sites that are dry-farmed (and he is a member of the Deep Roots Coalition). He consistently produces elegant and age-worthy wines that show superb aromatics and balance. The wines see minimal intervention and see extended aging in mostly neutral oak.
Crowley Wines Available Here Now
Crowley Pinot Blanc 2014 750ML ($17.95) $14 special, 9 bottles available
VinopolNote: Self-rooted, 15 year old Pinot Blanc grown in Marine sedimentary soil. Dry farmed. Sustainable.
Winery note “Inspired to make a stainless steel fermented white wine with character, the Pinot Blanc project was launched with a “wait and see” approach, no grand designs! We had the wine fermenting with indigenous yeast for nearly a full year while the winter cellar temperatures dipped and eventually came back up to finish the wine as Spring moved into Summer. The resulting wine is always aromatic and complex with a wonderful texture delivered by long lees contact and full malolactic fermentation. There really is not a Pinot Blanc like it, which was the idea. Bottled with minimal SO2 and a light polish filtration, this wine will age as well as our barrel fermented Chardonnay.”

Crowley Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($26.95) $21.90 special, 17 bottles available
Winery note “Comprised of Wente and Dijon clones from Four Winds Vineyard this wine demonstrates the undeniable pedigree and personality of this fantastic high elevation and old vine site. Light straw with a hint of green combine with pristine clarity to present this wonderful Chardonnay. The aromatics include slate, anise and pear, with a trace amount of barrel toast. Buoyant acidity frames a lean palate beaming with citrus, mineral and white peach, along with background sweetness provided by lees contact. Clarity and precision highlight this refreshing and versatile Chardonnay.”

Crowley Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2013 750ML ($47.95) $39 special, 26 bottles available
Winery note “Gehrts Vineyard (60%), La Colina Vineyard (40%) Dijon clone field blend, Pommard and Wadenswil. Back in the ’90s, when payphones dotted the earth and grunge was king, young Tyson Crowley got a job at Erath, and thus began his love affair with the Dundee Hills. From cellar rat at Erath to cellar master at Archery Summit and assistant winemaker at Cameron, the red clay soils of the Dundee Hills have been a consistent inspiration for Tyson. This wine is a culmination of his 19 years in the Dundee Hills and offers a signature palate of red fruit, earth and spice. Pommard and Wadenswil clones from La Colina and a Dijon clone field blend from Gehrts vineyard give this wine complexity and elegance. Pairs well with flannel and Pearl Jam.”
Crowley Entre Nous Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2011 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 7 bottles available
Winery note “Blend of La Colina Vineyard (50%), Chehalem Mountains Vineyard (30%), Laurel Hood Vineyard (20%). All vineyards dry farmed. Entre Nous is always a blend of just Pommard and Wadenswil clones, which have always had a wonderful complimentary relationship as blending partners. Where Pommard is long and supple and graceful, Wadenswil has more attack and density and is somewhat exotic in nature. Together they form this quintessential Oregon Pinot Noir that is complex and serious. This wine takes longer to develop but rewards with patience in the cellar and in the glass.”

Crowley Four Winds Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 1.5L ($219.95) $169 special, 1 magnum available
Winery note “Well, we couldn’t let Four Winds Chardonnay have ALL the fun! After receiving two exceptional vintages of the Chardonnay from this vineyard, we jumped at the opportunity to make wine from the Four Winds Pommard clone pinot noir in 2012, making this our first release! As it is for the Chardonnay, this 22-year-old high-elevation vineyard is ideal for fresh, acid-driven and austere Pinot Noir. Classic Pinot in nature, this wine displays a beautiful ruby color indicative of the high-elevation sedimentary soils, and delivers balanced fruit with texture and acidity. 15-20% whole cluster in the fermentation gives the wine additional aromatic layers and texture.”

Josh Raynolds–Vinous 93 points “Vivid ruby-red. Suave and expansive on the nose, but with noteworthy verve to the aromas of red berry liqueur, floral pastilles and incense. Lithe and appealingly sweet in the mouth, offering juicy raspberry and cherry flavors that deepen and gain power in the mid-palate. Finishes round, seamless and spicy, with gentle tannins and excellent cling.”
Crowley La Colina Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2013 750ML ($59.96) $51.90 special, 21 bottles available
Winery note “La Colina was our very first vineyard contract in 2005 and we proudly continue to grow our holdings within this beautiful south Dundee Hills site. In addition to being a sentimental favorite of ours, La Colina has quietly become a cornerstone vineyard for the Crowley brand as it continues to deliver the highest quality fruit year in and year out. Wine Advocate 92 points “Longtime winemaker Ted Edwards has fashioned a beautiful 2013 Chardonnay, an 11,000-case, non-malolactic, 70% barrel-fermented cuvée from multiple sources throughout Napa. One-third new French oak was used. Notes of delicate pear, apple blossom and tropical fruits emerge from this classic Chardonnay. Medium to full-bodied with a greenish hue to its color, it exhibits impressive layers and minerality. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years.”

Case-12 Atalon Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2011 750ML ($319.95) $199 special, 11 cases available (that’s only $16.58/bottle!)
Stephen Tanzer–Vinous 89+ points “(at 13.5% alcohol, this is a full degree lower than the Pauline’s Cuvee; includes tiny bits of merlot and petit verdot): Bright red-ruby. Musky black raspberry, blackberry, licorice, menthol and oak on the nose. Distinctly tighter and less pliant now than the Pauline’s Cuvee, displaying a touch of medicinal reserve to the sappy dark berry, violet and menthol flavors. Shows serious spine without coming off as hard: I’d give this persistent cabernet a year or two to mellow in bottle.” ST

Domaine Lafage Bastide Miraflors, IGP Cotes Catalanes 2013 750ML ($17.95) $14 special, 36+ bottles available
Robert Parker 93 points “I have loved the wines from Domaine Lafage in the past, and this 2013 Bastide Miraflors Cotes Catalanes is one of the greatest red wine values I have tasted in the last year or so. A custom cuvee put together by Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage, it is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache that spent one year in 80% concrete tank (Grenache) and 500-liter demi-muids (Syrah). From a Roussillon vineyard, dominated by gallets roules, that resembles many Chateauneuf du Pape vineyards, the wine undergoes a long maceration of six weeks. The result is an inky/blue/purple-colored wine offering a big, sweet bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, pepper and spice. This full-bodied, opulent, majestic dry red unleashes tremendous ripeness, richness and intensity. One would normally think such a superb, remarkable wine would cost over $50 a bottle, but this beauty is available for an astonishing $14 a bottle. You’ll have to taste it to believe it! It should drink well for 2-5 years.” RP

Case-12 Aubry Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($449.95) $349 special, 4 cases available (that’s only $29.08/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(45% pinot meunier, 25% pinot noir and 25% chardonnay, with the rest arbanne, petit meslier and fromenteau; disgorged in April, 2013): Bright straw. Pungent aromas of Meyer lemon, pear and fig, with a gingery accent adding lift. Sappy, penetrating citrus fruit and floral flavors are given a refreshingly bitter character by notes of pear skin and peach pit, with a waxy note coming up on the back half. A smoky nuance lingers on the finish, which shows very good clarity and length. Fifty-five percent of this blend is from 2010 and the rest is reserve wines, mostly from a solera that was begun in 1998.” JR

Michele Reverdito Barolo DOCG, Piedmont 2011 750ML ($29.95) $24 special, 19 bottles available
“Michele Reverdito is what they call a “rising star” winemaker in Barolo. His winery is based in La Morra, a hill town that sits high above Barolo. Michele Reverdito works with two acres of Dolcetto d’Alba, two of Barbera d’Alba, five of Lange Nebbiolo and eighteen acres of Barolo, all stretching along the steep road to Verduno in the villages of La Morra and Serralunga d’Alba. Michele prides himself on using traditional, “old school,” methods to make his wines. These include hand harvesting and sorting and the use of wild yeasts and 1,000 liter barrels to age the wines.”–Importer Notes
Case-12 Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Tuscany 2011 750ML ($349.95) $299 special, 2 cases available (that’s only $24.92/bottle!)
Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Tuscany 2011 750ML ($34.95) $27.70 special, 18 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Dark red cherries, plums, grilled herbs, tobacco, smoke and anise meld together in the 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva. Silky layers provide the backdrop for a core of rich, explosive fruit. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 needs more time in bottle to fully blossom. Today, the 2011 Riserva is uncharacteristically closed for the year, but that is a great sign for the future.”
Wine Advocate 92 points “The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is a wine of enormous depth and personality. It shows an immediate rush of berry aromas with grilled herb and tilled earth. It does a great job of presenting the varietal characteristics of Sangiovese in a pure and unadulterated manner. You can feel a touch of fruit ripeness that is common in most of the wines of 2011, but the mouthfeel is polished and direct.”
Case-12 Felsina Berardenga Fontalloro Toscana IGT 2009 750ML ($579.95) $519 special, 2 cases available (that’s only $43.25/bottle!)
Felsina Berardenga Fontalloro Toscana IGT 2009 750ML ($69.95) $49 special, 36+ bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “There is a lot to like in the 2009 Fontalloro (Sangiovese). For starters, the wine is rich, broad and ample on the palate. Hints of tobacco, savory herbs, licorice and menthol all add complexity over time. The over juiciness of the fruit is nicely balanced by clean veins of underlying acidity that give the 2009 much of its freshness. This is another wine endowed with superb balance and class.” AG

Paitin di Pasquero-Elia ‘Serra’, Barbaresco DOCG 2011 750ML $41.95) $31.90 special, 36+ bottles available
Wine Spectator 94 points “Rich and velvety, yet also vibrant and complex, this red boasts floral, berry, anise, leather and mineral flavors. Harmonious, this turns slightly chewy in texture on the lingering finish. Best from 2017 through 2027. 1,000 cases made.” WS
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Crushed flowers, sweet red berries, spices and mint race across the palate in the 2011 Barbaresco Serra. This is one of the most intense, tannic 2011 Barbarescos readers will come across. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2011 is going to need considerable patience. Hints of sweet tobacco, mint and anise add nuance on the layered, super-expressive finish. The 2011 Serra spent two years in 50-hectoliter casks.” AG

Ian D’Agata–Vinous 91 points “Vivid red. Earth tones and licorice on the nose. Then fruitier and large-scaled in the mouth, offering ripe red fruit and botanical herb flavors that carry through a long, vibrant, chewy finish. The polished tannins provide lovely backbone to the rich red fruit flavors. This is always the first cru to be harvested, roughly two weeks ahead of Guardiola, which is located about 350 meters higher.”

James Suckling 95 points “Aromas of currant, bark and orange peel. Nutmeg powder. Full body and chewy tannins. Savory, with balsamic and nuts. I love the juicy, decadent character to this. Drink or hold.” JS
Antonio Galloni 94+ points “Isole e Olena’s 2011 Cepparello is remarkably silky, polished and refined, especially considering the challenges of the vintage. Dark red stone fruits, wild flowers, menthol and sweet spices all meld together gracefully in the glass. Voluptuous and racy but also an impeccably balanced wine with phenomenal length and a super-expressive finish. The 2011 will offer a wide window of drinking pleasure pretty much upon release. Drink: 2017-2026.” AG
