The Wine Advocate Praises Goodfellow

Marcus Goodfellow’s Matello and Goodfellow Family Cellars labels have been mainstays at the shop for some time now—wines that we carry regardless of vintage, scores or overall hype.  The wines are amongst the best in Oregon and consistently some of the most inspiring wines we taste.  It looks like we aren’t alone in our love—the new Wine Advocate reviews for our fair state lavish (deserved) praise on Marcus’ wines.

When the 2017’s came out, we called them “some of the best he’s made.  These are profound wines, both white and red, that are made in a style that’s distinctly savory—no fruit bombs here.  Rather, we love them for their coiled power and Burgundian structure.  These are wines that speak with an Oregon voice, but the tannin and acidity comes from an old-world point of view.”

2017 also marks the debut of block-designated wines in the Goodfellow lineup.  Taking their place above the single vineyard wines but below the Heritage bottlings, they represent singular terroirs that deserve special focus.  2017 also marks the debut of Goodfellow working with the legendary Temperance Hill vineyard—a synthesis of house style and vineyard signature that is as perfect as we could hope for.  These were rewarded across the board with outstanding reviews and high scores that they totally deserve.

In Stock Now:

Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2017 750ML ($24.95) $19.90 special, 13 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 91 points
“The 2017 Chardonnay is made up of fruit from the Durant and Whistling Ridge vineyards. It begins with notes of gunflint that flesh out to baked apples, pie crust, hay, honey and almonds with a minerally undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate bursts with fresh fruits and savory accents, lifted by juicy freshness and finishing long and textural.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Chardonnay, Oregon 2017 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2017 Chardonnay Durant Vineyard opens with classic gunflint notes, segueing to pure golden apple, quince paste, crushed hazelnut, dried hay, white peach and honeyed hints. Medium-bodied and wonderfully silky, it gives up a pop of savory flavors in the mouth with tangy acidity and a long, pleasantly textured finish. This could use another couple of years in bottle and should age well in the cellar.”

A Vinopolis Exclusive!
Goodfellow Family Cellars Richard’s Cuvee Chardonnay, Oregon 2017 750ML ($49.95) $44 special, 35 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2017 Chardonnay Richard’s Cuvée Whistling Ridge Vineyard comes from a single foudre bottled separately this year. It has a warm, inviting nose of Golden Delicious apples, pie crust, quince, citrus blossoms, crushed stone and poached pears—still youthfully shy but hinting at the savory layers underneath with touches of honey, hay and nuts. It’s medium-bodied and incredibly silky in the mouth, with slowly blossoming flavor layers and lip-smacking, tangy acidity, finishing very long and minerally. Give this another year or two in bottle. Only 80 cases were made.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay, Oregon 2017 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2017 Chardonnay Whistling Ridge has a wonderful, mineral-driven character that sets it apart from the rest of the lineup at Goodfellow. The nose offers pure scents of poached pears, apples, white peaches and floral perfume with a rocky undercurrent, while the palate is precise and laser-like with restrained fruits but loads of perfumed nuances on the long, delicate finish. I expect this will grow in bottle, so give it another couple of years in the cellar.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Oregon 2017 750ML ($44.95) $36 pre-arrival special, re-arriving May 1st
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 93 points
“Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Durant Vineyard is scented of spiced cranberries, blackberries and red berries with notes of charcuterie, floral perfume and sweet spices. The light-bodied palate is silky, intense and spicy with finely grained tannins and juicy freshness on the long, spicy finish. This comes from vines planted in 1998.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Pumphouse Block Temperance Hill Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017 750ML ($59.95) $45 special, 3 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points
“This is the first vintage of the Pumphouse Block from the Temperance Hill vineyard. Pale to medium ruby in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir Pumphouse Block Temperance Hill has a slowly blossoming, broody nose with pure aromas of crushed blackcurrant, blackberries, mortadella, cinnamon stick, fragrant earth and a frame of amaro-like spices. The palate is light to medium-bodied, silky slow to reveal its savory flavor layers, with a grainy frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long. This merits at least another year in bottle.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Temperance Hill Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017 750ML ($47.95) $36 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 93 points
“”This is the first time we’ve worked with Temperance Hill vineyard,” says Marcus Goodfellow. “There are tons of different aspects, lots of rootstocks, various vine ages and trellising systems plus lots of unknown clones in the mix. These vines were planted in 1994.” Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill has a lovely, broody nose of crushed blackberries, smoked meats, black cherries, tangerine peel, dried roses, amaro and dusty earth—lots of blossoming layers! It’s light to medium-bodied with a silky texture and nuanced flavor layers, grainy and fresh with a long, nuanced finish.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Heritage No. 10 2017 750ML ($69.95) $59 special, 2 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 95 points
“The numbered iterations in the Goodfellow portfolio are different each year. Marcus Goodfellow says, “The numbering is all specific to a time and place, so you won’t see another no. 10.” Pale to medium ruby, the nose of the 2017 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Heritage No. 10 blossoms to fresh currants, tar, Earl Grey tea leaves, dried flowers, mushroom and warm earth with an undercurrent of mineral notions and spices. The medium-bodied palate slowly reveals nuanced flavor layers, with very finely grained tannins and seamless freshness on the very long, layered finish. Beautiful! Give this another couple of years in bottle or cellar it—this has the structure and flesh to age very well in bottle.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars House Block Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($59.95) $45 special, 7 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 94 points
“The House Block is another new wine from Goodfellow. Associate Winemaker Megan Joy says, “Whistling Ridge is a multigenerational vineyard, originally planted in 1990. The House Block was the first block planted and is a mix of those oldest vines and the replants, plus the replants that have been planted for a long time.” Winemaker Marcus Goodfellow continues, “We divided up some of the blocks at Whistling Ridge. At pruning, we realized that the House Block is a west-facing bowl. That west-facing aspect puts flesh into that block in a way we don’t see with the other blocks—it almost creates schizophrenia in the block, with some east-facing and some west-facing aspects and lots of mixed clones, so the fruit isn’t uniform, which is great.” The pale to medium ruby colored 2017 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge House Block has a stunner of a nose: lilac, violet and lavender perfume floats across a core of pure crushed black cherries and blackberries and red currants with layers of dried earth, amaro, charcuterie, blood orange and a minerally undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied, silky and firmly structured with great freshness and a long, bitters-laced finish. This has the stuffing and structure to age very well in bottle and merits another couple of years in the cellar.”

Goodfellow Long Acre Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($59.95) $45 special, 3 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points
“Brand new to the Goodfellow portfolio, the 2017 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Long Acre has a pale to medium ruby color and scents of crushed black cherries and warm blackberries with accents of crushed stone, blood orange, dried violets and that signature amaro-like blend of spices: tree bark, dried citrus, herbs and potpourri, which are a theme running through the Goodfellow portfolio. The palate is medium-bodied and firmly knit, with seamless freshness and a long, bitters-laced finish. This could use another year or two in bottle.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir, Oregon 2017 750ML ($44.95) $36 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points
“Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Vineyard slowly opens to reveal red currant, crushed black cherries, cured meats and a graphite/mineral undercurrent with accents of amaro, flowers and fragrant earth. Medium-bodied and silky, it’s mineral driven and nuanced in the mouth with fine, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and bitters-laced. Give this another year or two in bottle.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Heritage No. 7 Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2016 750ML ($69.95) $59 special, 8 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2016 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Heritage No. 7 has a pale to medium ruby color and aromas of cranberries, blackberries, rhubarb and pomegranate with notes of tar, turned earth, dried flowers and smoked meats. The medium-bodied palate is silky and perfumed with great freshness and a very long finish. This will benefit from another year in bottle.”

Wine Spectator 93 points “A beam of pure blackberry runs through this otherwise dense and focused red. Shows elegance, with balance and complexity, but needs time to integrate and reveal all its facets. Offers fine, minerally length. Sangiovese and Merlot. Raul Perez Ultreia Saint Jacques, Bierzo 2017 750ML ($22.95) $16.60 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Luis Gutierrez-Wine Advocate 93 points
“The clean, floral and 2017 Ultreia Saint Jacques comes mostly from old vineyards from different soils in Valtuille and Villadecanes fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with part of full clusters and matured in used barriques for one year. It’s produced in a fresh and very drinkable way. This is one of the best values from Bierzo and Spain, and a great introduction to Bierzo. It’s a more serious wine than what the wine was when it was first produced, fresh and elegant. It’s very reliable and a great value. There are some 100,000 bottles that were filled in two production runs.”

Antonio Galloni 93 points
“Snowden’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch is gorgeous. Dark, powerful and beautifully structured, the 2016 Ranch is a huge overachiever. In 2016, the Ranch is a wine of real power, gravitas and character. Black cherry, plum, lavender and savory herbs all develop in the glass, but it is the wine’s persistence and overall balance that stands out in this deeply flavorful, classically built Cabernet from Snowden. Best of all, the 2016 is a superb wine for the money.”

Local, Delicious and (Somehow) Under $20

Two Favorites from Bow & Arrow

We can’t say enough good things about Bow & Arrow and the wines they make. Scott Frank seems to have cracked the code to do two things that are nearly impossible for other Oregon wineries. First, he makes wines that are vibrant, fresh and delicious in a truly old-world fashion.   As a result, the wines (especially the wines we’re featuring today) can be compulsively drinkable. We may have mentioned this already, but the wines are great.

The other major puzzle that Scott seems to have cracked is affordability. We often see wines from the US marketed as ‘daily drinkers’ in style but the wines are priced at $30++, well north of a comparable wine from Europe. With Bow & Arrow, though, we’re pleased as punch that a delicious local wine is cheaper than most of the competition from Europe.  To make those already good deals even better, we worked with Scott to drop the prices on two of our favorites, the flagship Rhinestones and his excellent Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

In Stock Now:

Bow and Arrow’s Rhinestones bottling, a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, has probably done more to define their style and the style of the “New Oregon” than any other.  Juicy, fresh and slightly peppery (from the Gamay) it’s a red wine that manages to refresh with ease.  We sell a lot of it, for good reason—it’s a wine that manages to pair with nearly anything, or be delicious on its own.  Plus, it’s well priced (under $25) and local, two big perks. It’s become one of winemaker Scott Frank’s signature bottlings, representing his outside-the-box thinking and exceptional craftsmanship.

Bow & Arrow Rhinestone Red, Willamette Valley 2018 750ML ($26.95) Was $21.90, Now $18 special
Winery Note
“To understand Rhinestones we have to talk about the Cheverny region of France’s Loire Valley where, by law, the red wines must be a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir.  We follow this stricture with all the Pinot and Gamay fruit we source from Johan Vineyard.  The blend is determined by nature and vintage.  Aged in a mixture of concrete and old barriques, this wine is the flagship of the Bow & Arrow operation and communicates what we’re about as much as anything we make.  Effortlessly drinkable but rewards detective work if you’re in the mood.”

This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
The next best price is $24.99

Bow & Arrow may be best known for their Loire-inspired bottlings (like Rhinestones and Air Guitar) but they make a fantastic bottle of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, as well. Crafted from an assemblage of some of the best vineyards in the Van Duzer Corridor, this wine shows a cooler-climate tone that evokes its European influences.  2018 is already starting to look like a special vintage in the Willamette Valley and this bottling shows grace and elegance with a sizzle that we’ve come to expect from the B&A wines.

Bow & Arrow Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2018 750ML ($24.95) Was $21.90, Now $18 special
Winemaker Note
“[W]hile this ethos of “wine for the people” infuses the entire posture at Bow & Arrow, it’s this wine, the Willamette Valley Pinot in particular, that serves as our proof of concept.  You can make, in the Willamette Valley, a Pinot Noir sourced from Biodynamic and Organic fruit that is lovingly and naturally tended to form start to finish AND sell it at a price that nearly anyone can glass pour.  Assembled mainly from Johan Vineyard, Walnut Ridge and Hughes Hollow fruit, this wine was handled no differently than our single vineyard, top priced Pinot Noir.  Tasted blind I imagine it would hang tough with any line-up of Oregon Pinots of any price or pedigree.  (“I humbly submit” keeps getting auto-corrected to this hubristic nonsense.  I’m sorry.)”

Now it’s even lower!

New Northern Piedmont Reviews from Antonio Galloni

“Roberto Conterno’s acquisition of Nervi in 2018 made waves and has brought a whole new level of interest to Alto Piedmont. I visited just a few months after the purchase was complete and Conterno had already added temperature control to the cellar. Since then, Conterno has built a new winery and added the same state of the art bottling line he has at Giacomo Conterno. The range of wines is now streamlined to three Gattinaras; the straight Gattinara bottling plus the single vineyard Molsino and Valferrana, plus the Rosé, a longtime favorite at the winery. The newest project is a sparkling wine that has not yet been released, but that appears quite promising, based on what I have tasted so far.” –Antonio Galloni

The Piedmont outside of Barolo and Barbaresco remains a bit of a paradox: lovers of big, collectible Nebbiolo will readily concede that there are some amazing wines made there, but then turn around and proceed never to buy any, despite the fact that the best wines are outstandingly well priced!  Well, hopefully that stops today (at least in a small little way).  We’re here to tell you that if you love Barolo and Barbaresco, you should be paying real (fiscal) attention to the wines made in Piedmont outside of the big two.

If you need another argument to pay attention to this overlooked region, know that Giacomo Conterno bought the historic Nervi estate in the heart of the DOCG.  Nervi has some of the best holdings in the village and was an underperformer—at least until Roberto Conterno got involved.  These are now some of the most compelling wines made in all of the Piedmont.  They have all the skill and depth of Conterno, but in a distinctly Gattinara package.

The wines of Gattinara tend to be more compact and more aromatic than Barolo (Volnay vs Nuits, in Burgundy, is a good comparison).  They age forever, it seems.  The best part?  The prices.  This top tier, single-vineyard-that’s-been-planted-since-the-15th-century wine is under $100.

In Stock Now:

Nervi Vigneto Molsino, Gattinara DOCG 2014 750ML ($119.95) $99 special, 22 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni 94 points
“The 2014 Gattinara Molsino is shy and introverted in its first impression, with quite a bit of intensity lurking in the background. Today, the Molsino is not as expressive as the Valferana, but its day will come. With a bit of aeration, the 2014 starts to show the structure, layers of nuance and resonance that will emerge more fully in time.”

Other notable wines with new scores:

Ferrando White Label – Etichetta Bianca Nebbiolo di Carema, Piedmont 2015 750ML ($89.95) $75 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni 94 points
“The 2015 Carema Etichetta Bianca is such a gorgeous wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, licorice, spice, mint and dried flowers give the 2015 striking aromatic openness, but there is plenty of mineral-drenched tannic backbone that gives this wine its distinctive personality. Medium in body, taut and full of character, the 2015 hits all the right notes. It should also start drinking relatively early and age effortlessly for many years.”

Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo ‘Cantalupo Anno Primo’, Ghemme DOCG 2011 750ML ($47.95) $39 special, 19 bottles in stock now
Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo ‘Cantalupo Anno Primo’, Ghemme DOCG 2011 1.5L ($99.95) $79 special, 1 magnum in stock now
Antonio Galloni 91 points
“The 2011 Cantalupo Anno Primo is powerful and ample, but with terrific depth and tons of pure resonance. The 2011 is going to need a number of years to become approachable, as it exudes serious depth and intensity. Black cherry, leather, spice, menthol and licorice all build in a potent, concentrated wine. The 2011 opens up nicely with a ton of air but it remains quite big in size.”

This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!

Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo Collis Breclemae, Ghemme DOCG 2011 750ML ($89.95) $69 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo Collis Breclemae, Ghemme DOCG 2011 1.5L ($149.95) $119 special, 3 magnums in stock now
Antonio Galloni 91 points
“The 2011 Ghemme Collis Breclemae is heady, rich and unctuous – almost unnaturally so. This is a very big wine with notes of black cherry, pine, smoke, licorice, leather and incense. The 2011 is a powerful, virile, brooding wine with real intensity.”

New Oregon Reviews from the Wine Advocate

“The 2017s offer quality at the level of the 2016s, but not the same consistency. Stylistically, the two vintages are polar opposites. The 2016s are deeper in color, with open, plush aromas, medium weight and ripe, concentrated, dark fruits. The 2017s, on the other hand, are light-bodied, pale in color, fresh, lively and ethereal—what one might call a “classic” Oregon vintage, although I am hesitant to use the word, as it is losing meaning in a world of climate change and proliferating styles. Pinot Noirs this year are red-fruited and crunchy, delicately nuanced with loads of floral, spice and amaro-like aromas and flavors. The best Chardonnays this vintage are world-class, bright and elegant, textured without being weighty, with fresh orchard fruit profiles and tangy acidity. Both grapes performed equally well in 2017—the best wines are elegant, balanced, subtle and nuanced, showing “grace and elegance with plenty of fruit in a subtle delivery,” as Pahlow eloquently states—although many winemakers commented that they felt Chardonnay was especially excellent this year.

“While the 2016s were immediately accessible from bottle, the 2017s are more tightly wound. Because there is structure without heaviness and overt fruit, the 2017s will take a bit longer to come around. The top examples will age well in the cellar, revealing more nuance with time. These wines may not be as immediately rewarding as the 2016s, but I suspect they have much more to show with some more time in bottle.” – Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

Ayres Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Oregon 2018 750ML ($24.95) $20.90 special, 22 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2018 Pinot Noir has a pale to medium ruby color and perfume of crushed cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, cinnamon, clove and pipe tobacco with warm earth and tea leaf notions. The palate is medium-bodied with bright red berry fruit, a grainy frame and long, fresh finish.”

Brick House Vineyards ‘Les Dijonnais’ Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($79.95) $55 special, 1 bottle in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92+ points
“The 2017 Pinot Noir Les Dijonnais comes from five different Dijon clones. It was made with 30% whole clusters and 16 months in about 35% new French oak. It has a pale ruby-purple color with aromas of warm raspberries, black cherries, cinnamon, dried earth and roses with amaro nuances. The light to medium-bodied palate is grainy and fresh with a long, spicy finish. This is drinking well right out of the bottle. 702 cases produced.”

Brick House Vineyards Select Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($41.95) $36 special, 4 bottles in stock now

Cristom ‘Eileen Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017 750ML ($69.95) $59 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2017 Pinot Noir Eileen Vineyard was made with 48% whole clusters and aged 18 months in 67% new French oak. It has a medium ruby color and opens with cinnamon stick, dried leaves and dusty earth, segueing slowly to black cherries, peppered meats, Earl Grey tea leaves, charcuterie, dried herbs and a spicy vein. The medium-bodied palate is slow to blossom, softly chalky and super fresh with a long, nuanced finish. This will benefit from another year or two in bottle. 876 cases produced.”

Cristom ‘Marjorie Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017 750ML ($79.95) $66 special, 21 bottles in stock now
Cristom ‘Marjorie Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017 375ML ($39.95) $33 special, 17 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2017 Pinot Noir Marjorie Vineyard was made with 51% whole clusters and aged 18 months in 75% new French oak. Medium ruby, it has a very pretty nose: nuances of crushed stone, Campari, earth and blood orange mingle over a core of red and black cherries, rhubarb and cranberry. The medium-bodied palate has lovely, nuanced, amaro-laced flavor layers with a softly chalky frame and seamless freshness, finishing long and perfumed. 384 cases produced.”

Crowley Four Winds Vineyard Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2017 750ML ($49.95) $44 special, 12 bottles in stock now

The palate is medium to full-bodied with a creamy, slightly oily texture, tempered by juicy freshness and finishing long and flavorful. 150 cases were made.”

Crowley Four Winds Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2017 750ML ($49.95) $44 special, 10 bottles in stock now

“The pale to medium ruby 2017 Pinot Noir Four Winds has a classic nose of woodsmoke, dusty earth, Earl Grey tea leaves, fresh cranberry and Bing cherry with accents of rose petal and warm red berries. The light to medium-bodied palate is delicate but concentrated with earth-laced flavors, gently fuzzy tannins and a long, nuanced finish. 150 cases were made.”

Crowley La Colina Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2017 750ML ($49.95) $44 special, 13 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92 points

The Eyrie Vineyards ‘Spark’ Sparkling Rose, Willamette Valley NV 750ML ($33.95) $27 special, 5 bottles in stock now
“The NV Spark is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir, 37% Chasselas Doré and 8% Pinot Blanc, from 31-year-old vines. It is an “ultra brut,” although this particular bottling is made using forced carbonation instead of méthode Champenois. Medium to deep cherry-pink in color, it has aromas of cantaloupe, strawberries, raspberries and lemon peel with notes of stone and toast. The palate is dry with citrus and red berry flavors, spritely mousse and a refreshing, mineral-driven finish.” -Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 95 points
“The 2016 Pinot Noir The Eyrie has a medium ruby-purple color and pretty nose of violet, dried hollyhock, prosciutto, leather, blueberries and boysenberries with red currant, oolong tea leaves and earth aromas. It’s medium-bodied and ultra silky with gobs of perfumed fruit layers, a very finely grained frame and mouthwatering acidity, finishing long and perfumed. Yes! Jason Lett says that the Outcrop and The Eyrie Pinot Noirs come from the same clones and elevation and have a similar aspect, but the main difference between the two wines is vine age—the average vine age for the Outcrop is 27 years, while average vine age for The Eyrie Pinot Noir is 47 years.”

Sequitur Chardonnay, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($89.95) $69 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 92+ points
“The 2017 Sequitur Chardonnay was aged mainly in amphorae this vintage. It opens with fresh scents of poached pears, baked apples, honey and hazelnuts with notes of chamomile, crème fraîche and lemon peel with an undercurrent of crushed stone. Medium-bodied, it fleshes out in the mouth with honey-nut accents, seamlessly integrated acidity and a long, honeyed finish. This is a more open-knit style of Chardonnay compared to the mineral-driven version from Beaux Frères.”
