Sparkling Wine Deal of the Year
A saline & refreshing sparkler from top vineyard sites in Chablis!
Domaine Collet Pere et Fils Cremant de Bourgogne Brut NV 750ML ($26.95) $21.90 special
Case-12 Domaine Collet Pere et Fils Cremant de Bourgogne Brut NV 750ML ($279.95) $219 special (that’s only $18.25/bottle!)
100% Chardonnay from Collet’s Grand Cru & Premier Cru Pargues Vineyards.
Importer note “Romain vinifies his base wines completely in steel before bottling and the addition of liqueur de tirage, and allows the wine to sit on its lees for fifteen months before disgorgement and a minute dosage, allowing the fruit of his pedigreed family vineyards to express itself. The wine is as precise as a bell and as refreshing as spring water; on the nose there is orange blossom, copper minerals and gardenia. The palate is as vinous and minerally as his superb still Chablis. The finish is dry, almost saline with caressing, gentle mousse and flavors of oyster shells, apricot and key lime. Disgorged July 2015. Enjoy this beauty as an aperitif, or with Dungeness crab, salt cod gratin or pasta carbonara.”

New December Sale Wines
Delas Freres Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes-Marquise de la Tourette, Rhone 2013 750ML ($119.95) Was $79, Now $69, 17 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 points “One of the gems in the vintage is the 2013 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes, which comes from both the Bessards and Grandes Vignes lieux-dits on Hermitage Hill. Completely destemmed, then vinified in stainless steel and concrete tanks, the wine is aged 18 months in 30% new French oak; it offers terrific notes of dark fruits, graphite and ample minerality in a full-bodied, layered, ripe profile. It’s more approachable than the Les Bessards, yet will still have three decades of longevity.”
This was the lowest listed price in the USA today,
Now it’s even lower!
The next best price is $84.97
Delas Freres Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos, Rhone 2004 750ML ($59.95) Was $49, Now $39, 19 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 89 points “Medium red. Strong mineral notes accent fresh cherry and earthier tobacco and floral aromas. Solid and firmly structured, with a racy quality to the bright cherry and rhubarb flavors. This should age very well.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Delas Freres Hermitage Les Bessards, Rhone 2004 750ML ($199.95) Was $149, Now $119, 30 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 94 points “Ruby-red. Very pungent, deep aromas of tobacco- and underbrush-laced red and blackcurrant. Powerful and rich, showing impressive sweetness to its potent cassis and blackberry flavors. Really stains the palate, finishing with exceptional purity and mineral tones. Whatever tannins are here (and you know there are plenty) are completely absorbed by the sheer fruit mass.”

The average price is $165

Staff Picks
Saul:
Domaine de la Grange des Peres, IGP Pays d’Herault 2011 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
When you only make one wine, it better be good. In the case of Grange des Peres, in the Languedoc, it is and is cult-like in its following. We don’t always get as much as we’d like, but we scooped up little extra of the 2011 and are offering it at a killer price. It’s a big, rich wine—for Cabernet drinkers but with a few other grapes in there to liven things up. Drink this guy with some roasted birds or steaks off the grill.
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
The average price is $119
Daniel:
Chateau du Fort Pontus, Fronsac, France 2010 750ML ($24.95) $18 special
Case-6 Chateau du Fort Pontus, Fronsac, France 2010 750ML ($149.95) $99 special
Tucked away on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, just down the Dordogne from St. Emilion and Pomerol, the Fronsac Appellation quietly produces some of Bordeaux’s best early-drinkers. The lazy river, the wooded hills, the gravelly soil, and the châteaux: Fronsac is definitely Bordeaux. Château du Fort Pontus represents its bordelaise roots, but with a twist. The wine is 100% Merlot. Grown across 15 acres, the vines, 30 years old, are harvested manually, and the wines raised in the traditional style. Add all of this to a vintage like 2010, rated “outstanding” and which produced wonderfully concentrated wines, and you’ve got a wine that’s drinking deliciously today. Red and dark fruits, spice, and a Fronsac raciness combine across smooth, ripe tannins, all in balance, to end in a refreshing finish that clearly speaks with a Bordeaux accent. This is a wine to buy a case of, for when your taste demands fine French Merlot at an under-twenty-bucks price. Recently arrived here at Vinopolis!

Suzanne:
Crowley Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($24.95) $21.90 special
The 2014 Willamette Valley is all first-press wine comprised mostly of Pommard clone Pinot with some Dijon and the last of the Gehrts Vineyard (now that Jadot has purchased the vineyard). The WV was aged in barrel for over 16 months before bottling. It’s a lighter styled Pinot meant for hot summer days. In the glass, there are highly perfumed notes of cranberries, garrigue and a touch of fresh iris and pine. It’s medium to light bodied with very finely grained tannins that coat the palate and a refreshing acidity. The entire range of 2014s from Crowley has benefitted from the new entry-level wine, A La Votre, made from 9 barrels of press wine. Consequently, each of the 2014s is a step up in quality.

Killer Cayuse
Cayuse Vineyards Armada Vineyard Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2010 750ML ($149.95) $119 special, 3 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2010 Syrah Armada Vineyard saw 22 months in puncheons and a second-fill foudre. It offers gorgeous purity in its black raspberry and cassis fruit, crushed rock and spice-laced aromatics, yet is relatively closed and backward at the moment, with an almost granite-like tightness and focus on the palate. It could flirt with perfection at maturity, but it needs 3-4 years of cellaring at the moment.”
Cayuse Vineyards God Only Knows Armada Vineyard Grenache, Walla Walla Valley 2012 750ML ($179.95) $149 special, 3 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck-Wine Advocate 94 points “Grenache seemed to handle the heat nicely in 2013 and the 2013 Grenache God Only Knows Armada Vineyard offers a gorgeous, rich, almost masculine style (especially when it’s tasted next to the No Girls Grenache) in its dark fruits, crushed herbs, mineral and leather scented profile. Even showing a touch of game with time in the glass, this beauty has fine tannin, plenty of fruit and a great finish, all suggesting it will drink nicely for another decade.”
Cayuse Vineyards The Lovers, Walla Walla Valley 2012 750ML ($169.95) $159 special, 3 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck-Wine Advocate 94-96 points “A blend of 87% Cabernet and 13% Syrah (this is the same blend as the 2013), the 2014 The Lovers has an intense, serious feel in its darker fruits, graphite, pepper and cedar aromas and flavors. Ripe, sexy and concentrated, it’s always surprising how even a small amount of Syrah changes a blend, and in this case adds a roundness on the palate and shifts the aromatics slightly away from Cabernet. It should be approachable on release, yet age as well.”
Cayuse Vineyards Wallah Wallah Special Series Syrah #5, Walla Walla Valley 2013 1.5L ($319.95) $279 special, 1 magnum available
Stephen Tanzer-Vinous 93+ points “(bottled in magnum): Healthy, moderately saturated dark red. Musky aromas of dark berries, mocha and brown spices, plus a hint of creamy vanilla. Savory and youthfully tight; offering less early sex appeal than the 2012 version but this wine possesses an impressive thickness and finishes with big, broad tannins that suggest a slow evolution in bottle. Distinctly saline and backward–and perhaps less distinctive today than the single-vineyard Syrah bottlings from Cayuse. This wine represents Baron’s tribute to Jamet’s Côte-Rôtie, which is a blend of multiple sites.”

Counting Down to New Years
With New Champagne Arrivals!
Champagne Hebrart Cuvee Rose Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “Light orange. Sexy raspberry and orange gelato aromas are lifted by white pepper and fresh rose. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering juicy citrus fruit and red berry flavors and a touch of chalky minerals. Nicely balances richness and vivacity, showing no rough edges. Closes supple, floral and long, with a toasty leesy note coming in late.”
Rene Geoffroy Rose de Saignee Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($69.95) $56 special
Wine Spectator 92 points “Vibrant acidity frames flavors of steeped white peach, raspberry, candied orange zest and smoke in this rich, expressive rosé. Well-balanced and lively, with a mouthwatering, spiced finish.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
The average price is $69
Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Brut NV 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Stephen Tanzer 92 points “Very pale greenish-silver color. Extremely fine, precise aromas of talc, mint and fresh herbs. Creamy and round but utterly vibrant; this expands to fill the mouth yet communicates an impression of weightlessness. A blanc de blancs of great delicacy. Finishes very long, youthful and bright.”ST
Delamotte Brut NV 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
James Suckling 91 points “A cleverly orchestrated reductive edge to the nose, this has a layer of toasted cashew ahead of citrus, peach, spice, fine cherry and raspberry fruits. The palate’s nicely crafted to deliver an even and smooth impression. Red fruit flavors run long and smooth, with some fresh bread dough notes too; nicely yeasty to close. Drink now.”
Champagne Hebrart Cuvee Reserve Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Champagne Hebrart Cuvee Reserve Premier Cru Brut NV 375ML ($31.95) $28 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(77% Pinot Noir and 23% Chardonnay; 8.2 g/l dosage; disgorged in March, 2014): Bright straw. Lively, mineral-driven aromas of fresh citrus fruits, melon and white flowers. Musky, nicely concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors are given spine by juicy acidity, which adds cut to the back half. The floral quality repeats on the finish, which hangs on with strong stony persistence. Give this youthful Champagne a little air time, or even decant it, like the cool French and French-wannabe sommeliers often do.” JR
Chartogne-Taillet Cuvee Sainte Anne Brut NV 750ML ($49.95) $41.90 special
Wine Advocate 91 points “The NV Sainte Anne Brut – a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, so no Meunier anymore – is entirely sourced in Merfy, the village where the domaine is based. This youngest release includes the 2013 harvest (65%) and has been blended with 2012, 2011 and 2010. Pure, lean and complex on the palate, this is a very elegant, straight and pretty firmly structured cuvée that finishes with a lingering salinity and tension. Very well structured, with good length. At this price, it is a Must Try.”
Pierre Paillard Bouzy Grand Cru Brut NV 375ML ($27.95) $21.90 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “Light gold, with a faint onion skin cast. Spicy orange zest and honeydew on the fragrant, mineral-accented nose. Dry and tightly focused, offering lively Meyer lemon and melon flavors and a deeper suggestion of nectarine. Finishes with building floral character and excellent tangy persistence, leaving bitter citrus zest and dusty mineral notes behind.” JR
Vilmart & Cie Grand Cellier Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($79.95) $59 special
Wine Spectator 94 points “An explosion of flavor, with ripe nectarine, lemon curd, clover honey, jasmine and grilled nut notes set on a firm, fine china–like frame. Best from 2017 through 2025.”
James Suckling 93 points “A blend of 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay, this has a complex and sophisticated nose that delivers peach fruits and citrus, plus some bolder yellow plum fruits too. The palate is assertive, energetic and concentrated with peach and nectarine flavors met with lemony acidity. Long, really powerful Champagne here. Drink now or age on cork for three or more years.”

Wine Enthusiast 93 points “Produced from vines up to 80 years old, this is a powerful, wood-aged wine. Tannins are mixed with toast, spice and dark plum flavors. Acidity gives freshness and finishes the wine with very fine fruits as well as structure. Age this impressive wine and drink from 2018.”
Josh Raynolds-Vinous 92 points “Brilliant violet. Smoke-accented blackberry and cherry scents are complicated by suggestions of vanilla, violet and licorice. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering intense dark berry and floral pastille flavors that tighten up and become spicier with air. Weighty yet lithe, delivering a solid finishing punch of sappy dark fruit, smooth tannins and excellent persistence. This substantial yet energetic wine has the stuffing as well as the balance to age.”
Guy Breton Morgon, Beaujolais 2014 750ML ($34.95) $28 special, 6 bottles available
Guy Breton Morgon, Beaujolais 2014 1.5L ($69.95) $59 special, 7 magnums available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 93 points “Vivid ruby. Urgent aromas of fresh dark berries, licorice and incense are accompanied by a suggestion of smoked meat in the background. Sappy and broad on entry, then more taut in the midpalate, offering concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors and a hint of spicecake. A vibrant mineral flourish adds lift and cut to the finish, which lingers with excellent floral-tinged persistence.”

The average price is $30
Chateau Grange Cochard Morgon Cote du Puy, Beaujolais 2014 750ML ($27.95) $24 special, 29 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 93 points “Deep ruby. Mineral-accented cherry and blackberry aromas are underscored by a spicy element that gains strength as the wine opens up. Sappy and penetrating, offering sweet dark berry flavors with complicating suggestions of star anise and violet. The spice and floral qualities build steadily through an impressively long, sappy finish, which is framed by harmonious tannins that fold easily into the intense fruit.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
Pierre-Marie Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Fleurie les Garants, Beaujolais 2014 750ML ($27.95) $24 special, 36+ bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 93 points “Deep ruby. Intense black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice and smoky minerals. Juicy and penetrating, offering sappy red and blue fruit flavors that effortlessly marry power to finesse. The mineral and floral notes linger impressively on the finish, which is given shape by fine-grained, sneaky tannins.”
Pierre-Marie Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Moulin-a-Vent Les Trois Roches, Beaujolais 2014 750ML ($29.95) $24 special, 24 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “Vivid ruby. Assertive dark berry and floral pastille aromas show very good energy, with a spicy nuance adding complexity. Juicy and pliant, offering sweet, nicely concentrated blackberry and cherry flavors and a of touch of spicecake. Dusty tannins build slowly on a long, smooth and impressively persistent finish, with the dark fruit and spice notes echoing.”
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Moulin-à-Vent les Trois Roches was matured in 1- to 5-year-old half-tuns. Some attractive undergrowth/woodland scents permeate the dark berry fruit, a touch of cold black tea in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. There is appreciable depth and roundness here, with a soft and fleshy, but quite complex finish. This is an excellent Moulin-à-Vent from Pierre-Marie Chermette.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
Daniel Bouland Cote de Brouilly Cuvee Melanie, Beaujolais 2015 750ML ($29.95) $24 special, 23 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91 points “The 2015 Cote de Brouilly Cuvee Melanie has a more primal bouquet compared to the 2015 Chiroubles: blackberry and bilberry fruit with almost slate-like aromas interwoven. There is great mineralite locked in here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is very pure with a citric edge, hints of fig and date lending a little exoticism towards the finish whilst always remaining linear and tensile. This is another very impressive 2015 from Daniel Bouland.”

Beaujolais Arriving in January
New Grapelive Review
Jean-Louis Dutraive Beaujolais: Old Vine Beaujolais of Substance
Jean-Louis Dutraive Domaine de la Grand’Cour Fleurie Cuvee Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais 2015 750ML ($41.95) $36 pre-arrival special
Jean-Louis Dutraive Domaine de la Grand’Cour Fleurie Cuvee Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais 2015 1.5L ($89.95) $79 pre-arrival special
Grapelive 94+ points “The 2015 Dutraive Le Clos old vine Gamay is as close to perfection as you can get, but with a flamboyant and exotic flair that will scare the hell out of some people! This gorgeous and richly flavored Fleurie is much more like Scarlett Johansson than 60’s icon Twiggy, with amazing textures and an eye popping 14.5% alcohol. This is a blockbuster Cru Beaujolais that will seduce every inch of you! Jean-Louis Dutraive’s all natural and biodynamic Jules Chauvet-inspired Domaine de la Grand Cour is one of the great wines of the world. This 2015 Cuvee Vieilles Le Clos is like The Guigal La La Cote-Rotie of Beaujolais with sweet ripe opulence, hedonistically sexy mouth feel and with mineral/flinty spices true to its pink quartz and granite schist soils. Native yeast fermented with partial carbonic and no obvious wood, this wine is just wondrous in style and detail. [It has] delicate floral tones, densely packed pure Gamay character with creamy red raspberry, tart cherry, wild strawberry, tangy plum and guava jelly as well as basil/minty herb, shale/stony elements, saline-rich anise along with mixed spice, candied citrus, [and[ dried violet with lingering red peach and black currant. Wow, this is something wildly special and complex, but oddly comforting and easy to love. There are the dreamy textures and succulent fruit. [The] subtle savory tones, liquid mineral and juicy acidity keep things remarkably balanced and focused. While sultry and darkly beautiful now, this expressive Fleurie will be admired as a classic for years if not decades to come. Fantastic stuff from the master Jean-Louis Dutraive. Do not miss this wine if you are lucky enough to see or find it!”

Lots of dried-apple and pineapple character with bread dough and flan flavors. The bubbles are so fine you almost don’t notice them. Very vinous style. Drink now.”
Wine Enthusiast 97 points “***Cellar Selection*** The latest incarnation of this famous Champagne now comes from Roderer’s own vineyards, a good portion of which are run on biodynamic lines. This still-young wine has great depth and richness, a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and crisp texture that make it alive, crisp and bright. As it matures, it will deepen and become even more intense. Drink now if you must, but preferably wait until 2019.”
