Martin Woods Gamay, Willamette Valley 2019 750ml $24 special, 36 bottles in stock
100% Gamay Noir Winery Tasting Notes
“Crunchy cranberry & black cherry-mineral/spice/pepper/floral/herbal accents-palate is fresh, focused, tense with a lithe balance and framed by gentle tannin structure-a youthful and versatile wine offering much pleasure.”

Piaggia – Vannucci Poggio de Colli Toscana IGT, Tuscany 2020 750ml $66 special, 24 bottles in stock
Vinous 97 points
“The darkly alluring 2020 Cabernet Franc Poggio de’ Colli takes its time in the glass, slowly awakening with a dusty mix of red currants, pepper-tinged rose, exotic curries and the slights tough of animal musk that adds gravitas. This is velvety smooth yet finessed. It’s cool-toned in feel with a potent wave of tart raspberry fruits that saturates the palate with savory spice and mineral tones. It leaves a coating of fine tannins and a staining of berry concentration through the finale, tapering off sapid and long, yet perfectly balanced. What a radiant vintage for the Poggio de’ Colli, Piaggia’s varietal Cabernet Franc. Revisit it in five years to see some real sparks fly. “

Arriving Friday March 3rd

Castello di Meleto Chianti Gran Selezione Classico DOCG, Tuscany 2018 750ml $51.90 special, 24 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 94 points
“Here’s a new submission from the stunning Castello di Meleto, which has stone walls and towers in Gaiole in Chianti. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Trebbio is a terrific discovery. Made with all Sangiovese from a single vineyard, this wine offers fruit brightness, balance and evident mineral definition. These results are linear and sharp, and the fruit is slightly more vibrant here compared to the Poggiarso. Only 3,300 bottles were produced.”

This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!

Castello di Meleto Vigna Poggiarso, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG $51.90 special, 12 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 93 points
“Once a Riserva and now moved up to the top appellation designation, the Castello di Meleto 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggiarso sees fruit selected from across a 1.6-hectare vineyard site. Made with 100% Sangiovese and aged in oak for 27 months, the wine offers some tertiary definition with spice and smoke at the back of purple fruits. The oak spice is integrated (50-hectoliter barrels are used), and the wine concludes with elegant minerality. Some 6,600 bottles were made.”

Sebastian’s Pick

Sebastian’s note: Insane value for this dazzling Spanish white blend. This wine is a wonderful balance between expressive herbs and elegant floral notes with a strong citrus base. It’s almost too easy to drink. Enjoy this perfect spring time picnic wine! Better be quick, we only have six bottles left!

Avinyo Petillant Blanc, Catalonia 2021 750ml $17 special, 6 bottles in stock
De Maison importer note
“Avinyó Petillant is a vi d’agulla, the Catalan term for a prickly wine bottled with a little natural effervescence retained from the winemaking process. This vibrant and refreshing wine is the traditional summertime quaffer of the Penedès region of Catalonia, and it’s perfect for drinking out of a porrón. Petillant is made with a blend of two organically-farmed, estate vineyards. Finca La Guardia is the highest, most rugged vineyard on the property at 350 meters; here muscat de Frontignan was planted in 2003 in the stony calcareous-clay soils. Macabeo and xarel-lo are grown in the Finca Can Fontanals vineyard, planted from 1978 to 1988. Grapes: 70% Muscat de Frontignan / 20% Macabeo / 10% Xarel-lo.”

St. Damien

”The Domaine Saint-Damien, founded back 1821, is a small family winery in the southern Rhone based in the famed Gigondas AOC and is run by Joel and Amie Saurel with their son Romain who is the current winemaker. This is one of the Rhone’s great properties and treasures. These old vines give outstanding concentration without overt jamminess or heat of alcohol.” -Grape Live

Ameztoi Rubentis Rosado, Getariako Txakolina 2021 750ml $21.90 special, 36+ bottles in stock
Vinous 91 points
“Pale orange. Finely etched red berry, citrus zest and floral aromas, along with building herb and mineral flourishes. Taut and nervy in the mouth, offering sappy strawberry, cherry and tangerine flavors that show fine delineation and spicy lift. Closes firm and right, with persistent red fruit notes and a refreshingly bitter edge.”
De Maison importer note “The iconic Ameztoi Rubentis rosé is a field blend of the local, indigenous hondarrabi zuri and hondarrabi beltza varieties, grown on traditional trellises high on the slopes rising above Getaria, an ancient Basque fishing village on Spain’s rugged northern coast. In the 2000s, when almost all of the other local wineries gave up on the indigenous red hondarrabi beltza vines, the Ameztoi family retained their old vines, in turn, lending their rosé such exceptional vibrancy and complexity. Rubentis, the region’s first pink wine, was inspired by the historic claret style wines which were once produced in the area long before the current global craze made rosé famous. The backbone of the blend comes from an old hondarrabi beltza vineyard planted in 1840, preserved by the Ameztoi family for generations. Ameztoi Rubentis is an authentic original, a wine that is often imitated but never replicated.”

Kruger-Rumpf

Kruger-Rumpf Abtei ‘1937 Reserv’ Riesling Trocken, Nahe 2018 750ml $36 special, 36+ bottles in stock
Vinous 91 points
“…The nose anticipates the deeper sense of peachy fruit on tap here vis-à-vis the A.P. #30. The feel is glossy and silken, and the impressively sustained finish features a stony, alkaline and as such rather hard and austere sense of mineral matter, which serves for suitable counterpart to the fruit…”

Kruger-Rumpf Abtei ‘1937 Reserv’ Riesling Trocken, Nahe 2020 750ml $39 special, 7 bottles in stock
James Suckling 97 points
“A truly unique wine that has the most beautiful golden nose that is fruity, but so much more than that. So many wild herb and flower nuances. Stunning concentration, combined with a feeling of weightlessness. Super-mineral finish that dances over the palate and off into the far distance. Drink or hold.”
Wine Advocate 94+ points “…Clear, deep, intense and finely concentrated bouquet of ripe, elegant Riesling fruit with some spicy phenolic notes. The attack on the palate is fresh and piquant, the texture rich, intense and juicy and structured by firm but fine, mineral acidity that carries this full-bodied and tight Riesling to a long and complex finish…”

Kruger-Rumpf Burgberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Nahe 2018 750ml $39 special, 28 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 93+ points
“From low-yielding vines planted in the 1950’s and 1960’s, the 2018 Burgberg Riesling GG is absolutely great on the pure, clear and refreshing, super flinty and mineral nose. On the palate, this is an intense, highly complex and elegant dry Riesling with crystalline acidity and a long and refreshing, crystalline and salty finish. Bottled and tasted in July 2019.”

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Dautenpflanzer Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Nahe 2016 750ml $41.90 special, 2 bottles in stock
Vinous 92 points
“Suggestions of rutabaga mingle with thyme, oregano, and intimations of fresh lemon on the nose, then translate into a brightly juicy, intriguingly earthy impression on a palpably high-extract palate. This finishes with glowing piquancy, consummate refreshment and plenty of intrigue. It should prove fascinating to follow.”

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Dautenpflanzer Riesling Spatlese, Nahe 2018 750ml $24 special, 11 bottles in stock
Vinous 92 points
“An effusively fruity nose anticipates the generously juicy peach and nectarine that feature on a glossy palate, with a hint of almond paste as well as pronounced sweetness tugging things in a confectionary direction. Happily, an influx of limey brightness and tangy fresh-fruitedness serve for welcome pushback as well as animation and refreshment on a long-lasting finish. As with others of the best Kruger-Rumpf 2018s, this manages to combine richness and high ripeness with brightness and transparency to stony inflections. That juxtaposition may have been underscored in the case of this Spätlese by its having been raised partly in cask and partly in tank.”

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Pittersberg Riesling Spatlese, Nahe 2018 750ml $39 special, 25 bottles in stock
Vinous 95 points
“…It comes off as a riper, richer sibling of the corresponding Im Pitterberg Riesling Kabinett, its gloss merging with creaminess, yet with fresh white peach and lime juiciness complementing ripe quince and serving for animation and refreshment…”

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Pittersberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Nahe 2018 750ml $39 special, 36+ bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 93+ points
“The 2018 Im Pitterberg Riesling GG is bright and floral on the fragrant and elegant, spicy-mineral nose. Full-bodied and intense on the palate, with rich and concentrated fruit that is balanced by a tight and mineral structure and lingering salinity, this is an elegant, very complex and sustainable dry Riesling with crunchy stone flavors and a gripping finish.”

This is the only listing in the USA today!

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Rheinberg Riesling Kabinett, Nahe 2018 750ml $16 special, 34 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 89 points
“From a southeast-facing vineyard, picked at 83/84° Oechsle around the 20th of September and vinified in stainless steel and large oak in equal parts, the 2018 Münster Rheinberg Riesling Kabinett is beautifully clear, fresh and stony/piquant on the precise, stimulating, slightly nutty and coffee-bean nose. Round, lush and sweet on the first palate, this is a fresh, salty-piquant and elegant Kabinett with stimulating grip on the finish. This is a beautifully lean, light and digestible Kabinett in the good old style. Tasted in July 2019.”

Vinous 92 points
“Deep ruby. Lively aromas of red fruits, minerals and herbs. Juicy and fruity in the mouth, showing hazelnutty nuances to the red fruit flavors. Finishes with good acid-fruit balance and nice tannins. A lovely wine that will age well, but provides irresistible drinking right now.”

Montegrossi

Rocca di Montegrossi ‘Geremia’ Toscana IGT, Tuscany 2017 750ml $59 special, 36+ bottles in stock
Rocca di Montegrossi ‘Geremia’ Toscana IGT, Tuscany 2017 1.5L $149 special, 2 bottles in stock
Antonio Galloni 97 points
“The 2017 Geremia is a revelation. It might be even better than the 2015 or 2016, which is saying a lot. Soaring aromatics make a strong first impression. In 2017, the fruit profile leans more into the red fruit end of the spectrum. The warm, dry year yielded a Geremia that is unusually open. I doubt too many of the estate’s fans will have a problem with that given how long these wines usually take to open. Today, the 2017 Geremia is a total pleasure bomb. Don’t miss it.”

Rocca di Montegrossi ‘Ridolfo’ Toscana IGT, Tuscany 2015 1.5L $179 special, 21 bottles in stock
Antonio Galloni 98+ points
“…The 2015 Ridolfo is a new Cabernet Sauvignon/Pugnitello blend from Marco Ricasoli bottled only in magnum. Vibrant and finely sculpted, the 2015 impresses right out of the gate. A whole range of savory aromatics, lavender, spice, licorice and mocha open with time in the glass. Sweet rose petal and cinnamon appear later, adding brightness and lift…”

Rocca di Montegrossi Vigneto San Marcellino Gran Selezione, Chianti Classico DOCG 2016 1.5L $149 special, 2 bottles in stock
Decanter 96 points
“Liquorice, tarragon and broom interlace with exuberant plum and understated toasted nuances that are seductive. Laden with black cherry and rich, velvety tannins, the palate is creamy in texture, while underlying chalkiness and saline minerality lend energy, leading to a sappy, refreshing finish.”

Rocca di Montegrossi Vigneto San Marcellino, Chianti Classico DOCG 2014 750ml $49 special, 5 bottles in stock
Antonio Galloni 94 points
“The 2014 Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino is dark, sumptuous and super-expressive. Like all of the wines here, the 2014 San Marcellino needs at least a few years in bottle to truly show everything it has, but there is more than enough here to provide for engaging drinking for many years to come. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous scents of black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and smoke. The 2014 is a striking, complete wine.”

Rocca di Montegrossi Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, Tuscany 2009 375ml $89 special, 24 bottles in stock
Antonio Galloni 94 points
“The 2009 Vin Santo is a rich, exotic wine, as it always is. Readers will find one of the richest most intense Vin Santos being made today. Plush, tropical and ample in feel, Rocca di Montegrossi’s Vin Santo is bold and racy to the core. The 350 grams of residual sugar leave the wine with tremendous textural plushness.”

Collector’s Corner

Harlan Estate, Napa Valley 2017 750ml $1099 special, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 97+ points
“Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Harlan Estate needs a little coaxing to reveal captivating iron ore, red currant jelly, cloves and crushed rocks scents with a core of warm cassis, Black Forest cake and boysenberries plus a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy texture with a lively backbone and loads of earthy layers, long and mineral laced. This should be one of the longer-lived wines coming out of the 2017 vintage.”
Jeb Dunnuck 97 points “The Grand Vin is the 2017 Harlan Estate, and this beauty just about jumps from the glass with its pure cassis and blackcurrant fruits as well as notes of tobacco, graphite, crushed stone, and spice. With a full-bodied, expansive mouthfeel, building, velvety tannins, and a layered, seamless style that offers way more pleasure than just about every other wine in the vintage, bottles can be enjoyed any time over the coming 20-25 years.”

Harlan Estate, Napa Valley 2014 750ml $899 special, 3 bottles in stock
Robert Parker 98 points
“The deep garnet-purple colored 2014 Harlan Estate offers up subtle cassis, black cherries and crushed blackberries notes with tons of savory and earthy layers: forest floor, black soil, charcoal and dried herbs, plus wafts of violets and rare beef. Full-bodied and built like a brick house in the mouth, it has loads of tense, muscular fruit with many layers of earth, savory and spice nuances emerging, finishing with epic length. Around 2,100 cases were bottled.”

Harlan Estate, Napa Valley 2009 1.5L $2099 special, 1 bottles in stock
Antonio Galloni 97 points
“The 2009 Harlan Estate is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Cloves, dark plums, cherries, smoke and graphite add richness and resonance to this powerful, incisive wine. Juicy and exuberant, the 2009 has always had a certain raciness that is impossible to resist. Layers of fruit continue to build to the enveloping, sensual finish. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this hugely delicious wine. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034”.

And some of the best Burgs:

Meo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits 2019 750ml $449 special, 2 bottles in stock
Vinous 95-97 points
“The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is quite closed on the nose, offering discreet blackberry, raspberry and light violet aromas that you might mistake for a Vosne-Romanée. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. This is a juicy Clos de Vougeot, a little savory and quite peppery on the finish, which you might misconstrue as a result of some stem addition. Sculpted with Jean-Nicolas Méo’s finest chisel, this is a wonderful Clos de Vougeot.”

Arriving March 10th

Meo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits 2020 750ml $499 special, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 93-95 points
“The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is very promising, unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild berries, cherries, orange rind, potpourri and loamy soil. Full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it’s seamless and complete, with superb depth at the core and a long, resonant finish. It will be fascinating to compare with the 2019 rendition in two decades’ time. Jean-Nicolas Méo began his harvest on August 23, and he has produced another fine vintage at this Vosne-Romanée reference point. Méo has always done well in warm, sunny vintages (as a lovely bottle of his 2003 Nuits Lavières recently reminded me), and 2020 is no exception. Indeed, for a vintage that was generally somewhat primary and frequently tightly wound this winter, Méo’s wines—habitually quite backward after 12 months’ élevage—were remarkably put together and expressive. Mostly landing at around 13.5% alcohol, they’re vibrant, concentrated and nicely balanced, showing considerable aging potential.”

Meo-Camuzet Aux Brulees, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2020 750ml $899 special, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 94-96 points
“The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées soars from the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis, raw cocoa, burning embers, espresso roast, exotic spices and orange rind. Full-bodied, velvety and complete, it’s exquisitely balanced, with a deep and concentrated core of fruit framed by melting tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, resonant finish.”

Meo-Camuzet Au Cros Parantoux, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2020 750ml $4199 special, 2 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 94-96 points
“The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Au Cros-Parantoux reveals aromas of red berries, plums, orange rind and cherries, framed by a deft application of classy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and incisive, it’s more tightly wound and introverted than the Richebourg, as is usually the case. Patience in élevage and in bottle will be required, but the wine’s raw materials are prodigious.”
