Burghound 98 Points “…subtle wood influence on the ripe yet cool nose that combines notes of spice, earth and floral elements with those of dark berries and poached plum. There is excellent intensity to the full-bodied, concentrated and mineral-inflected flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering excellent depth and persistence on the beautifully balanced and imposingly powerful if decidedly compact finale. This strikingly pure effort is already Zen-like in its sense of harmony and should prove to be remarkably long-lived. Brilliant.”
Wine Advocate 96-98 Points “The 2019 Chambertin Grand Cru is very promising, unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, grilled meats, cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, licorice and loamy soil. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it was the most introverted, tightly wound wine in the cellar on the day of my visit. Broad-shouldered and elegantly muscular, it’s bright and precise, concluding with a penetrating finish.”

Decanter 100 Points “Brooding dark fruits on the nose, super-ripe without any jamminess or overt oakiness. Splendid attack, with power and tension. The firm tannins are much more pronounced than in Chambertin, and provide a lot of grip. Truly adolescent and shouldn’t be broached for years. The fruit is currently submerged beneath the assertive structure – this has 13.7% alcohol without any chaptalisation, hence the power. It may well overtake the more elegant Chambertin in 20 years, but who knows?”

Decanter 94 Points “This wine is effectively made from declassified fruit from Tim Fröhlich’s volcanic grand cru sites of Felsenberg and Kupfergrube, and it’s a hot tip for lovers of thrilling Riesling. Like all his wines, this has a reductive cloud for now but underneath lies a tropical allure with pristine flavours of passion fruit and mango. The body is slender and concentrated, with a stony, long and crystalline finish. Lovely now but this also ages well.”

Full-bodied and dense on the palate, this is a rich and intense, tightly woven Chardonnay with fine tannins, caramel nuances and saline lemon fruit on the long and complex finish.”
 

 

 
Reichsrat Von Buhl Bone Dry Knochentrocken Riesling, Pfalz 2021 750ml $18 pre-arrival special
Winery Note “From variegated sandstone soils with some limestone, loess and clay. Carefully fermented and aged in stainless steel on the lees until March 2022 and bottled without any fining or other technical measures. Only 12.5% alcohol, with 6.2 g/l of acidity and a barely perceptible 0.5 g/l RS. This beautiful, bone-dry Riesling features notes of stone fruits and citrus, with a lively, animating and fresh palate. It’s bone-tingly good!”

Winery Note “During the last few years, Reichsrat von Buhl has created their own style in the sparkling wine range and was able to achieve an inspiring level of quality. In the future it remains their intent to constantly improve and develop this style of sparkling Sekt wine. Grapes for this 100% Riesling were selectively handpicked from the top vineyards at Von Buhl. This a perfectly clear sparkler with cool pit fruit and fine notes of brioche on the nose. With fresh acidity, a firm palate and a creamy, piquant finish, this is an exceptional bubbly.”

Wine Advocate 90 Points “The 2020 Weissburgunder Reserve is clear, pure and fresh on the nose that is reminiscent of ripe white fruits (pears) and finely milled stones. Crystalline, precise, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a medium-bodied Pinot Blanc that is somewhat leaner than the 2019 but not less tensioned or stimulating. The finish is quite intense but in a fruity rather than a structural aspect. 13% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in January 2022.”

Wine Advocate  92 Points “The Siefersheimer 2021 Höllberg Riesling GG is deep, intense and generous on the refined and elegant yet currently still untamed, darker-toned nose that intermingles yeasty with stony but also animal notes. Round and vital on the palate, this is a charming yet also vivacious, tight and persistently saline Höllenberg with a long, quite intense and mouthfilling finish with refreshing lime and lemon notes. Sustainable salinity and purity. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork stopper. Tasted in December 2022.”
