“Barolo’s Back!”
Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 2019 750ml $89 special, 23 bottles available Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana 2019 750ml $89 special. 23 bottles available Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco 2019 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles availableWine Advocate 94+ Points “The 2019 Barbaresco has a slender, almost fragile personality with small berry tones, wild strawberry and blueberry. The effect is very beautiful, especially the melting tannins that characterize the mouthfeel. The wine is fermented in oak and stainless steel and matures in large oak casks for 24 months. This is a production of 12,000 bottles.” Mauro Molino Barolo 2019 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles availableWine Advocate 95 Points “The Molino family shows a deft hand with Nebbiolo, as is illustrated by the 2019 Barolo. This wine shows great harmony, a lightweight style and a polished mouthfeel, with strong power too. The aromas follow a classic Nebbiolo playlist with small currants, blue flower and rusty nail. As far as classic Barolo goes, the 2019 is about as classic as they come. This wine is especially lifted and bright. With 45,000 bottles made, you get an outstanding value here.”

Valdespino Manzanilla Deliciosa 750ml $17 special, 6 bottles availableDecanter 94 Points “About five to six years old, from La Guita bodega. Bright astringency and vivid intensity, with a long, refreshing finish. Not subtle, or washed out; and in this case, I preferred this to the en rama version.”

“K Vintners”
K Vintners Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard Syrah 2020 750ml $33 special, 30 bottles availableJeb Dunnuck 95 Points “As with almost all of the Syrahs here, the 2020 Syrah The Deal was not destemmed, saw an extended maceration, and spent 18 months in 40% new French puncheons. Deep ruby/purple-hued, it has an incredibly floral perfume of black and blue fruits, pepper, iron, and crushed stone. With medium to full-bodied richness, a focused, precision, elegant texture, and a great finish, it’s a gem of a Syrah as well as an insane value.” K Vintners Syrah Motor City Kitty MCK 2020 750ml $39 special, 26 bottles availableJames Suckling 98 Points “This is a serious and intense syrah. Complex notes of chocolate, blackberries, black cherries, cedar and nutmeg here, with cracked pepper, rosemary and dried lavender. Evolving. Firm, tight and compact, with a full body. Beautiful freshness, too. More structure here. Try from 2025.” K Vintners The Boy Grenache 2020 750ml $46.50 special, 34 bottles availableJames Suckling 98 Points “This is perfumed, with dried strawberry bush, ripe cherry, star anise, black cardamom and spiced orange peel. Lots of dried-flower undertones. Its medium- to full-bodied with layers of tight but juicy tannins and bright acidity cutting through. Its so alive and vibrant, with cocoa-dusted red berries jumping out of the glass. It shows depth and power, but in an elegant way, with a delicate, ethereal feel.”

“I am constantly bowled over by the quality of Molitor’s wines– even these little daily drinkers! If you’re not familiar with Molitor’s color coding, these green cap wines represent an off-dry, feinherb style Riesling. Personally, I feel that a little bit of residual sugar gives most Rieslings an extra dimension that some dry Rieslings are missing– here it comes in the form of ripe red apple. This is a great table wine and perfect for big spicy foods and also more delicate fare like charcuterie and cheese.”

Tour de Alsace10 Stellar Alsatian Wines
Alsace is a magical little pocket of European culture that is all too often ignored by the rest of the world. Fought over for centuries, it exchanged hands between France and Germany so many times that it became a fantastic mélange of both cultures. Officially French (for now, at least) with a French speaking populace who are great producers (and consumers) of that great French delicacy Foie Gras but surrounded by beautiful Bavarian architecture and, although they are probably most famous for their lush and spicy Pinot Gris wines, craft some of the finest Dry Rieslings and Gewürztraminers in the world. Agape Pinot Gris Expression 2018 750ml $19.90 special, 8 bottles availableImporter Note “Produced from owned plots in Riquewhir dominated by granite soils. The vines vary from 15-33 years old. Aged in large wood barrels to allow for aeration. This rich and honeyed, barely off-dry Pinot Gris is draws the very best out of this grape. Apricot notes and orange peel combine with earth and spices. (normally 50% stainless, 50% wood). Approx 500 cases produced annually.” Agathe Bursin Gewurztraminer Dirstelberg 2021 $29 special, 12 bottles availableVinopolNote: The Dirstelberg vineyard is mostly composed of pink sandstone and is known as a high quality vineyard for a variety of grapes. The wines from the site tend to be linear and crisp, with good varietal character. Unlike many Alsatian producers, Bursin errs on the side of delicacy and raciness rather than pick too late and allow the wines to become rich and flabby for the sake of “power.” Agathe Bursin Pinot Blanc Parad’aux 2021 750ml $24 special, 20 bottles availableVinopolNote: Classic Alsace Pinot Blanc. Clean, crisp with nice minerality and a touch of nuttiness. This would make an excellent aperitif or a smashing pairing with fish. Agathe Bursin Sylvaner Eminence 2021 750ml $39 special, 8 bottles availableVinopolNote: Agathe Bursin is known in Alsace as one of the top producers of Sylvaner and these grapes are all sourced from the Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé, labeled only as “Eminence” because the variety is not allowed the Grand Cru distinction. This is one of her top wines and provides a compelling reason to pay attention to the grape and Bursin’s remarkable work. Aromatically really interesting with a bright, mineral palate and great texture. Schoffit Riesling Rangen De Thann Grand Cru 2019 $59 special, 4 bottles availableJames Suckling 97 Points “Welcome to another planet of dry riesling! This is still very young, but has a fascinating nose of red vineyard peaches, wild berries and herbs, plus a whiff of hibiscus. Makes a serious statement on the front palate, but that’s only the beginning of this amazing story. Grows and grows as it powers ahead across you palate. Incredible intensity of wet-stone and salty character at the enormous finish, although the acidity is really moderate in the riesling context. Enormous aging potential! From organically grown grapes.” Pierre Sparr Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru 2019 750ml $45 special, 5 bottles availableVinopolnote “Here at Vinopolis, we are known to be huge fans and advocates of Riesling and German wines in general, but where else in the world can you get a very dry Grand Cru Riesling for under fifty dollars? If these were one of Mosel’s own Grosse Gewachs wines, these would be much more expensive.” Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Mambourg 2017 750ml $39 special, 5 bottles availableWine Enthusiast 90 Points “A concentrated nose of Damask rose and juicy peach makes for a heady opening on this wine. A hint of grapefruit-peel spice plays on the juicy, medium-sweet palate. Along with citrus freshness, this creates a lovely balance of richness and freshness.” Trimbach Clos Ste Hune Riesling 2016 750ml $379 special, 1 bottle availableVinous 98+ Points “Luminous straw. Penetrating nuances of lime and guava join the lemon verbena, jasmine, mineral and white stone fruit aromas on the knockout, captivating nose. Then dense, complex and multilayered, offering profound flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sweet spices and talcum powder. Closes extremely long, clean and precise; this is a young white wine of utterly mesmerizing beauty. I find this to be one of the best young CSHs I have ever tasted; it is stylistically different but almost on the same quality level as the marvelous 2010 CSH. One sniff (never mind taste) and I was left almost speechless – and I’m not usually one who keeps his mouth shut when I recognize a truly great wine.” Jancis Robinson 19-20/20 Points “Just 7,000 bottles produced in an average year from this 1.67-ha muschelkalk enclave within the Rosacker Grand Cru vineyard. Always vinified bone dry for a long life. So fresh and minerally and complete. Already gorgeous with beautifully judged balance. Such tension and this is already approachable, I’m delighted to say. Really vibrato and vibrant. So long and as though on a tightrope. Then a beautiful undertow with some lime and a lot of stones. Riesling perfection!” Weinbach Pinot Gris Clos De Capucins 2019 750ml $33 special, 19 bottles availableWine Spectator “A light-bodied version, with snappy acidity creating a lively frame for the flavors of nectarine, Asian pear, rose petal and spicy mineral. A hint of almond shows on the juicy finish. Drink now. 300 cases imported.” ginger play on the stony, mineral-driven finish. Drink now through 2019. 100 cases imported.” Weinbach Sylvaner 2019 750ml $26 special, 8 bottles availableJames Suckling 93 Points “Although this was made from the least “popular” of the Alsace grape varieties, this is a beauty, with a wide spectrum of white and yellow fruit, the kind of concentration you expect from old vines and quite some power at the long, fresh finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

Rocca Di Montegrossi Ridolfo 2015 1.5L WAS $179 NOW $159 special, 17 bottles availableAntonio Galloni 98+ Points “The 2015 Ridolfo is a new Cabernet Sauvignon/Pugnitello blend from Marco Ricasoli bottled only in magnum. Vibrant and finely sculpted, the 2015 impresses right out of the gate. A whole range of savory aromatics, lavender, spice, licorice and mocha open with time in the glass. Sweet rose petal and cinnamon appear later, adding brightness and lift. Cabernet Sauvignon and Pugnitello are not obvious varieties to blend, as they are, on paper, more similar than complementary. Even so, the combination works so well. I can’t wait to see how this ages. The 2015 is a total knock-out!” Rocca Di Montegrossi Vin Santo 2009 375ml WAS $89 NOW $79 special, 23 bottles availableVinous 94 Points “The 2009 Vin Santo is a rich, exotic wine, as it always is. Readers will find one of the richest most intense Vin Santos being made today. Plush, tropical and ample in feel, Rocca di Montegrossi’s Vin Santo is bold and racy to the core. The 350 grams of residual sugar leave the wine with tremendous textural plushness.” Monteillet Condrieu Chanson 2018 750ml WAS $69 NOW $59 special, 14 bottles availableDecanter 96 Points “Fresh, keen and tense, with lime marmalade and touches of bubblegum. There’s delicious richness and real depth to the fruit, delivering great concentration and lovely acidity. From lieu-dit Chanson and aged for 22 months in oak on the lees, Stéphane Montez explains that a long élevage like this helps to decrease alcohol levels, is better for ageing, stimulates complex tertiary flavours and means you can decrease sulfite levels as the wine is protected from oxidation by the lees.” Morgenster Lourens River Valley Red 2014 750ml WAS $21.90 NOW $18 special, 28 bottles availableVinous 92 Points “The 2014 Lourens River Valley is a Bordeaux blend that offers light blackberry, tobacco and smoky scents on the nose; a hint of hickory develops with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and ripe, with supple tannins and a pinch of sour cherry and balsamic toward the finish. Quite mellow, so much so that you almost overlook the concentration here. Excellent.” Mourat Collection Val De Loire Rose 2021 750ml WAS $18 NOW $14 special, 11 bottles availableImporter Note “Organic. 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Gamay 40% Cabernet Franc grown on a mix of schist and rhyolite. Average age of the vines is 20 years. Hand-harvested, destemmed, pressed and settled with spontaneous fermentation at cool temperatures in stainless steel. Aged 5 months in tank before bottling.” Mourat Grenouillere Negrette Rouge 2020 750ml WAS $26 NOW $21.90, 25 bottles available Mourat Ovni Val De Loire Rose 2021 750ml WAS $19 NOW $16 special, 13 bottles available100% Grolleau Gris Palacio Quemado La Zarcita Extremadura 2018 WAS $19 NOW $16 special, 12 bottles availableVinous 91 Points “Opaque magenta. Red and blue fruit, floral and spice qualities on the expressive nose. Supple and appealingly sweet, offering spice-accented raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a musky hint of licorice. Finishes long and juicy, with repeating florality and gentle tannins adding final grip.” Pagliarese Chianti Classico Riserva 2018 750ml WAS $33 NOW $28 special, 17 bottles availableVinous 93 Points “The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is another gorgeous old-school wine from Pagliarese. Black cherry, cloves, licorice, leather and woodsmoke give the 2018 its distinctive, somber feel. This dense, super-expressive Riserva certainly has tons of character. Tasting the 2018 is like stepping back in time thirty years.”
All Week Sale Chablis
Known for its lively spark, that pop of acid and minerality that distinguishes Chablis from the rest of Burgundy. It’s lithe and racy, or as Jancis Robinson once said, it’s the “Little Black Dress” of white wine.

La Chablisienne Chablis L’homme Mort 1er Cru 2019 750ml $34.50 special, 26 bottles availableVinous 90+ Points “The 2020 Chablis L’Homme Mort 1er Cru is the most reductive on the nose amongst La Chablisienne’s Premier Crus, though it opens with just 5-10 minutes in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced entry, modest depth, a fine edgy acidity that lends frisson towards the finish with quite a persistent, peppery aftertaste. Meliorates with aeration. Give it a year in bottle. Drink: 2024-2034. (Sep 2022)” Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis Vielles Vignes 2020 $39 special, 35 bottles availableWinery Note “This cuvée is sourced from vines the age of which is between 45 and 70 years. A wine of exceptional concentration for a village level appellation, this wine is always a true expression of the kimmeridgian soils that make Chablis so distinctive. Aged for thirty months before release, Defaix’s old vines Chablis is richly dense with a classic flinty bouquet and long mineral-infused finish.” Jean-Paul And Benoit Droin Chablis 2021 750ml $34.50 special, 32 bottles availableDecanter “Droin owns 10ha of AP Chablis. Much more interest here with a deeper hue in the glass and much more interest on the nose. Some greengage on the palate, together with a hint of pear and white peach. Pretty much a benchmark example of what village Chablis should be. Concentration and a lengthy mineral character to finish.” Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2018 750ml $179 special, 2 bottles availableWine Advocate 95 Points “The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is another obvious success, mingling aromas of citrus and citrus confit with hints of beeswax, peach and pear in an inviting bouquet. Full-bodied, muscular and layered, it’s textural and fleshy, with a deep and tightly wound core, racy acids and a chalky finish. This is a fine effort that will improve with bottle age, but it is a bit more front-loaded out of the gates than the very fine 2017 rendition.” Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 2020 750ml $189 special, 3 bottles availableWine Spectator 95 Points “This white starts out rich, with an incisive attack, displaying flavors of white flowers, white peach, lemon and mineral. Builds to a long aftertaste, gaining precision from beginning to end. Drink now through 2030.” Domaine Laroche Chablis Blanchots Grand Cru 2020 750ml $149 special, 12 bottles availableWinery Note “The favourite Grand Cru of Domaine Laroche, offering much finesse and charm. Les Blanchots is a unique terroir made of a layer of white clay on Kimmeridgian limestone with ammonites. This is the ideal combination to keep the right amount of water for roots. The South-East exposure allows slow ripening and favours aroma development. Blanchots is delicate, silky and shows its charm after 5 years in bottle. At peak after 10 to 12 years.” Lucien Le Moine Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru 2017 750ml $179 special, 2 bottles availableNo reviews for 2017, 2016 review for reference.Vinous 92-95 points “Musky scents of citrus fruits, gardenia, white rose, anise, smoke, fresh herbs and earth. Very dry, rich and thick, but with a remarkably sappy, penetrating quality to its citrus and floral flavors. The extremely slow-building, edge-free finish stains the palate with licorice and menthol. Utterly distinctive grand cru Chablis–but then this bottling has been consistently stunning since its inaugural 2012 vintage.”

The Kimmeridgian Connection: Chablis and Chavignol
What is it about these two regions that produces a similar “spark” in the wines, the almost electric minerality that makes them so special? A large basin of Kimmeridgian clay (a marl of limestone and fossilized ancient sea creatures) stretches between Chavignol in the Loire and Chablis in Burgundy, uniting two otherwise very different regions in one unique style of wine, typified most perhaps by the stellar Sancerres of Edmond Vatan.
Vatan “Clos Neore” Sancerre 2016 750ml $449 special, 5 bottles availableVinous 98 Points “The 2016 Sancerre Clos La Néore is almost Riesling-like in its firm yet fine personality, its unswerving purity and its clear translation of place. Don’t expect a seductive Sancerre, this is dry and steely with an appealing bitterness making for a very grown up white wine. It’s starting to show early signs of development in its light almond/lanolin character alongside lemon tea. It offers exceptional concentration while being light bodied and provides a steely core of acidity, keeping the wine together and powering on. If you have any in your cellar, I can make myself available for dinner.” Vatan “Clos Neore” Sancerre 2010 750ml $599 special, 3 bottles availableWine Advocate 95 Points “The Vatan 2010 Sancerre Clos la Neore is fascinatingly – indeed, almost mind-bendingly – complex, already in the nose. Musk, white truffle, citrus oils, bittersweet floral perfume, lime and tangerine, as well as fusil, chalky and maritime mineral notes associated with Kimmeridgian origins waft in a kaleidoscopically interactive array. Fresh citrus and a stony-chalky undertone take the lead on a silken-textured palate but with almost electrically charged vivacity of interaction emerging in the long, saliva-liberating finish, mirroring the wine’s remarkable aromatic show. This will be at least a twenty year keeper worthy of comparison with such memorable past vintages as 1988, 1990, or 1996, each of which has shown gloriously when tasted within the past couple of years”. Vatan “Clos Neore” Sancerre 2018 1.5L $799 special, 7 bottles availableVinous 96 Points “Clarity is a term that accurately describes the 2018 Sancerre Clos La Neore. It has a pure and intense core of fruit. But it’s not fruity. It’s a sophisticated style with a distinctive aromatic profile- chamomile tea, lemon, honey, and almond meal and an almost tonic-like edge. While showing the ripeness of the 2018 season, it retains its shape with a corset of acidity and phenolics that guide the wine on and on.”
