Wine Advocate 93 points “Once a Riserva and now moved up to the top appellation designation, the Castello di Meleto 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggiarso sees fruit selected from across a 1.6-hectare vineyard site. Made with 100% Sangiovese and aged in oak for 27 months, the wine offers some tertiary definition with spice and smoke at the back of purple fruits. The oak spice is integrated (50-hectoliter barrels are used), and the wine concludes with elegant minerality. Some 6,600 bottles were made.”

The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Trebbio is a terrific discovery. Made with all Sangiovese from a single vineyard, this wine offers fruit brightness, balance and evident mineral definition. These results are linear and sharp, and the fruit is slightly more vibrant here compared to the Poggiarso. Only 3,300 bottles were produced.”

Vinous 92 points “An alpine-inspired blend of pepper-tinged florals, sage and flinty crushed rocks gives way to notes of lavender and raspberry as the 2020 Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz blossoms in the glass. This fleshes out across the palate with silky textures and ripe red fruits under an air of rosy inner florals. Its brisk acids maintain marvelous freshness, lasting throughout the long finale, where violet shades and hints of blueberry linger. The Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz is built on finesse yet has depth and underlying power.”

Black cherry, lavender, truffle, mint, spice and new leather all develop in an ample, resonant Ghemme that hits all the right notes. A rich, substantial finish rounds things out in style. The 2013 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, but it also has the pedigree to develop in the cellar for many years to come. Each time I come back to the 2013 it is more impressive.”

Rich, deep and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous intensity in all of its dimensions. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice and dried rose petal all add complexity. In 2016 Gloria is a real head-turner. It should be a fabulous value as well. There is not much else to say.”
Vinous 94 points “The 2016 Gloria is noticeably deeper in color than its peers. It has a charming bouquet of blackberry, briar, brown spices and touches of sandalwood, complex and developing loamy elements with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Quite mineral-driven, leading into a composed, precise finish that indicates careful winemaking from great terroir. Superb. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.”

Bursting with aromas of crunchy red berries, peonies, spices and plums, it’s medium-bodied, ample and enveloping, with succulent acids, melting tannins and a pretty, perfumed finish. Despite the challenges of the year, the Coudert family have produced a lovely classic, and it’s a wine that’s much more drinkable and vibrant than some of the recent banner vintages at this address.”
