The Kings of Austria: Gobelsburg & Alzinger

Gobelsburg

Schloss Gobelsburg makes some of the top wines in Austria. They operate in a style that promotes complexity and vivacity for some of the best values in the wine world (especially at the high end). The single vineyard wines are generally raised in a mixture of stainless and cask and are powerful, forthright expressions of some of the best terroirs in Austria. As a result, their top bottlings are wines that can stand toe to toe with any white wine in the world, but for a fraction of the price of the competition.

Dönnhoff’s Best Vintage Ever?

Woo boy—the hype train is here for the 2019 German vintage and it’s totally deserved. Vintage. Ever.

Even in a region that’s been spoiled for good years this millennium, the level of praise we’re seeing for 2019 is off the charts, and so is demand for the wines.

K Vintners Subscriber Special

The K Vintners wines need little in the way of introductions. But if you are unfamiliar with the winery, know that K Vintners’ winemaker Charles Smith fashions himself as a bit of a rock star and he ought to—he used to manage them. Then, one day, on a motorcycle trip, he rode through Walla Walla and was struck by the majesty of the terrain and the vineyards. Within a few years, he had returned to open a winery.

Pago Casa Gran

Pago Casa Gran is not a household name in the United States, even amongst avid Spanish wine drinkers. But this has nothing to do with the quality or profundity of the wines. Instead, they remain firmly under-the-radar because they are so difficult to find. But this fact will undoubtedly change once more people have had the opportunity to taste them.

Hailing from Valencia, an up-and-coming yet still underappreciated region of Spain, Pago Casa Gran represents everything that we love about contemporary Spanish wine.
