A Top Value Super Tuscan

Previously Sold Out, Now Back in Stock

Sette Ponti makes some of the finest Super Tuscans out there.  While they’re best known for Oreno, their top-end wine, the wine of note in most years is their value-priced Crognolo.  Made with every bit the same care as the flashier Oreno, Crognolo’s Sangiovese dominant blend provides a beautiful drink-now option at less than half the price of the flagship wine.  The 2017 just re-arrived (after quickly selling out the first go-round) and looks to be an absolute knockout—the warm year bestowed it with more fruit and softer tannins than usual, making this value an early drinker, as well.

No Wine Untouched by Magic

A Roundup of the 2015 Brunello Vintage

“This is a standout group of new releases from Montalcino. What impresses most about 2015 is the consistently high quality delivered across the board. As a whole, the wines are homogenous and uniform in terms of their intensity, depth and generosity. House styles may differ from producer to producer, but these wines are united by the energy, exuberance and radiance that come naturally to a beautifully warm and sunny vintage like 2015.

Tiberio: A New York Times Value Pick

The New York Times just published a great column on the white wine values of Italy and we weren’t surprised at all that one of their favorites was Tiberio’s Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.  This has been one of our go-to Italian whites under $20 and the newest vintage might be the best yet.  It’s mineral and zesty, with just enough body and fruit to keep things interesting.

Abruzzo is an Italian wine region best known for two standout producers: Valentini and Emidio Pepe—but it’s probably time to add a third to the list: the wines of the Tiberio family.

Ferrer Bobet is one of the hottest names in Priorat, producing some of the most impactful wines in the region.  They’re known for marrying stylishness and elegance to the raw power that Priorat always delivers, making them some of the most coveted wines in Barcelona’s cutting edge culinary scene.  We’ve offered their entry-level bottling before (and indeed, have the 2016 arriving later this month) but just secured a stellar price for their next tier up—the intense Vinyes Velles (old vines) bottling.

Do Ferreiro

As one of the leading producers in Rías Baixas, Do Ferreiro has become a familiar name to anyone who has discovered the tremendous wines coming out of the region over the past couple decades. However, fewer people are familiar with their top bottlings, which represent some of the region’s finest wines. These are terroir driven expressions that benefit from 7-9 months of lees aging, producing wines with familiar Albariño fruit and minerality, but with additional layers of complexity.
