Booker Vineyard’s 2017s

“This year’s Booker wines will more than satisfy his loyal contingent of followers, with their assertive, deeply fruited and complex, even flamboyant character.” –Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media

“Eric Jensen’s Booker Vineyards continues to make a ripe, sexy, pedal-to-the-metal style of wine… As I’ve commented in the past, the wines from Eric Jensen at Booker are some of the most impressive releases coming out of California. While in the past, they relied on pure fruit and texture to impress, today they possess layered, elegant and complex characters paired with serious depth, richness and structure.”

The bluest of blue chips in the Northern Rhône
Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas, Rhône 2008 750ML ($219.95) Was $179, Now $149, 9 bottles in stock now
Decanter 93 points
“600mm of rain in the summer, ‘never-ending rain’ according to Pierre Clape, leading to mildew in June, rot and dilution at harvest. But like many of the best 2008s, it’s surprisingly enjoyable now mature. It’s ready to drink now, with cigar box, white pepper and raspberry fruit, then sage and thyme on the palate.

Mosel’s Finest Dry Wines?

Heymann-Löwenstein is the signature producer of Germany’s Terrassenmosel region. The Terrassenmosel is part of the lower Mosel river valley where the steepness of the slopes requires terraces just to be able to grow grapes. It’s a daunting place to work—everything is so steep that no mechanized work is possible and so every single vine must be tended by hand.

Reinhard Löwenstein fits in with this region, then, as an absolute perfectionist who will do any and everything possible to make sure that his wines are as profound as possible.

New Library Chablis Releases

From Daniel-Etienne Defaix

Daniel-Etienne Defaix releases Chablis when he believes the wines are ready. This can mean 15 years past their release. Luckily, the time has come for the truly awesome 2006’s. They’re not really library release (despite the title of this section), but represent the current vintage on offer (and imported by Rosenthal, so you know it’s good).

Rhône Treasures from Château Pesquie

Château Pesquie is one of the hidden gems of the greater Rhône. Based in Ventoux, the estate is best known for its excellent value bottling Terrasses, but we would like to highlight their higher end wines, Artemia and Ascensio. These are absolutely stunning (and deals compared to nearby Châteauneuf). They have depth, complexity and power to spare, with a balance and earthiness that’s unique to Pesque. 2016 looks like one of the most successful vintages ever for the estate, and 2017 is a worthy follow up.
