Nicolas Maillart: Staff Favorite Champagne

Nicolas Maillart’s family has a grape-growing tradition in Champagne that dates back to at least the 18th century -some documents indicate the family has been farming grapes since the 1500s. However it wasn’t until 2003 that Nicolas started his namesake winery. Based in the Montagne de Reims, the winery has a variety of excellent holdings in premier and grand cru villages, including an ungrafted parcel of Pinot Noir that informs their top wine.

Cliff Lede Sauvignon Blanc

Cliff Lede’s 2018 Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect blend of freshness, elegance and nuance. A blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Semillon and a splash of Sauvignon Vert, this is not the one-dimensional Sauv Blanc that we’ve all regretted ordering by the glass. Most of the blend comes from three vineyard sources in Napa Valley, the majority of which well-established, with old vines contributing complexity to the finished wine. So if you’re looking for a Sauvignon Blanc that offers character without sacrificing deliciousness, look no further.

First Offer:

2019 Cameron Dundee Hills Pinot

Cameron’s Dundee Hills Pinot Noir is always one of the most anticipated offerings of the year. It delivers classic Cameron character and quality at a price that’s half what John Paul’s single-vineyard wines sell for—and the ’19 is a fantastic vintage.  Cooler than 14/15/16/18, it’s a return to the “classic” style of the Willamette Valley, with a bit more texture and richness than wines from the 90’s.  This edition is mostly from Abbey Ridge vineyard, with a bit of Clos Electrique blended in.
