Profound, Classical Brunello
Livio Sassetti is one of the founding fathers of Brunello and the wines coming off of his “Pertimali” estate define the genre.  This is a Grand Cru site in Montalcino and the wines are thrilling whenever you get a chance to taste them. We’ve worked hard to acquire some of both the ’14 and ’15 Brunello and finally get to offer them to you today.

These are wines that define what “traditional” means within the context of Brunello—robust personalities with delicate aromatics, long aging in botti and the capacity to age for a long time in a cool cellar.

The Fastest Rising Star in Burgundy

Clos de la Chapelle

Every now and then, we taste wines from a producer that’s clearly Going Places—like the star student in a high school class, it’s painfully obvious that some domaines are driven in a fundamentally different way from their peers.  The current incarnation of Clos de la Chapelle is clearly one of those estates—the praise keeps coming and it won’t be long until these are thought of (and priced with) wines like D’Angerville, Lafon and Lafarge as some of the top bottlings in Volnay.

Introducing Tiberio, Secret Star of Abruzzo

“Abruzzo’s Tiberio winery has quickly risen to the top of the hierarchy not just in Abruzzo’s but in all of Italy.” –Ian D’Agata, Vinous

Abruzzo is an Italian wine region best known for two standout producers: Valentini and Emidio Pepe—but it’s probably time to add a third to the list: the wines of the Tiberio family.  They’re not quite at the level of their two closest peers, but importantly their pricing is still in line with the value producers that dot the Abruzzese wine landscape.

The Last Undervalued Great Barolo House?

It’s remarkable that even as Brovia’s star is rising in the echelons of Barolo, prices have yet to seriously escalate for these wines. They stand with any producer’s collection of Barolos and yet are priced below many ‘name’ producers that are making wines of less character and interest.  For traditionally made Barolo, these are some of the best wines you can buy (at any price, really, but especially for the price).

The Long Shadows Vintners Collection

Long Shadows was created to highlight the best that Columbia Valley wines could be.  Allen Shoup, the founder of Chateau St Michelle, wanted to create a winery solely for the purpose of showing off the best qualities of Washington wine.  Rather than create one winery, though, he created a set of them—with the best winemakers in the world each having an equity stake in a brand that was tailored to their vision and what they did best.
