“Appealing aromas and flavors of cherry, almond, leather, iron and earth are the hallmarks of this muscular red. Remains fresh and persists on the aftertaste, with echoes of iron and tobacco. Best from 2021 through 2035. 3,500 cases made.”

Grüner Veltliner:

Post-Hip, Pre-Retro, Seriously Awesome

Grüner had a moment, in the late 90’s, when it was a very trendy grape.  That was possibly the best and the worst thing possible for the grape.  On one hand, everyone knows the grape and has at least passing familiarity with its potential for pairings on the table.  On the other, it has become too easy to dismiss the variety as something that was merely trendy.

The New Releases of Jean-Luc Jamet

Yesterday we highlighted the entry level wines of Domaine Jamet (just arrived, fantastic wines).  Today we’re highlighting the other half of the family. Jean-Luc Jamet, one of two brothers behind the legendary Domaine Jamet, left the family estate in 2013 to start his own winery.  He took half of the Jamet Cote-Rotie holdings with him and has made his own wine ever since.

We just received some of his entry level wines—a great chance to dip your toes into a new domaine and see what the house style is all about (hint: very similar to his brother’s).
