The Best Faiveley Vintage Ever?

The Immaculate 2016’s Arrive This Fall

We didn’t think that any vintage would get as much hype as 2015, but the wines from 2016 have been generating oodles of buzz.  ’16 looks like an all-timer, with bright, terroir expressive fruit and tons of concentration.  Think of 2015 with less ripeness and more definition and you’re there.  Of the ’16’s that are arriving this fall, some of the best buys are from Faiveley, a legendary name who’s been on a roll in the last half decade or so.

The Insider’s Cornas

The Best Under-the-Radar Producers

Of the Rhone’s Hottest Region

Cornas is the hot appellation in the Rhone, possibly in all of France. It’s coveted for its unique blend of elegance, power and raw character, with the top wines as good as any Grand Cru Burgundy or Hermitage.  Unfortunately, pricing for the top producers is skyrocketing, to the point where if you have to ask, then…

That said, there’s a clear tier of growers just below the Clape/Allemand level whose wines are priced far, far lower, reminding us of Allemand and Gonon five to ten years ago in terms of QPR.

A Fresh Round of 2013 Produttori Crus

“Two thousand thirteen …is shaping up to be an epic vintage of classic proportions and superb pedigree… No one knows every nook and cranny of Barbaresco better than Aldo Vacca, but Vacca has also proven to be incredibly wise in making choices that have positioned the Produttori for much continued success in the future.”

August Sale Highlights

Sale Ends Friday at Midnight!

The August Sale ends in just a few days, and with it many fantastic deals on wines from the top producers in Austria.  Whether you’re looking for the forthright and powerful wines from Gobelsburg, the haunting and beautiful bottles from Hirsch or the soulful and rustic Hiedler wines, the next few days are your best pricing opportunity.  Austria remains a fantastic source of value for white wine across all price ranges—the lower tier wines are some of the best in the world and the top end stuff can hang with very serious white Burgundy.

The Remarkable 2017 Domaine Huet Vouvrays

Arriving September 14th

Huet makes some of the most undervalued great wine in the world.  Take any metric you’d use to adjudicate greatness (complexity, age-worthiness, aromatic intensity, etc) and Huet’s Vovray is on the list, at prices far below almost anything else in the world of wine. They own some of the greatest vineyards in the Loire and make sure that they reach their potential year in and out.
