Austrian Whites for Thanksgiving

A Perfect Pairing

One perfect pairing for Thanksgiving dinner is a richer white wine.  Sure, red wines get all of the attention, with Beaujolais and Zinfandel leading the way, but a full bodied, complex white matches with most of the foods on the table in a way that Zin can only dream of.  The classic wine for this scenario is Chardonnay, either in white Burgundy or new world form, but we’d like to point you in the direction of something a bit more, well, Austrian for your Thanksgiving table.

Our Top Picks for the Holiday

Of the many approaches to wine pairing at Thanksgiving, one of the most foolproof is Beaujolais, at least on the red side.  The association initially started because of the release of the (generally insipid) Nouveau around the same time, but has endured due to the delicious, food friendly nature of the nicer wines from the region.  Gamay gives wines of bright, fresh fruit and easy-drinking structure that are perfect with an assortment of the foods on the Thanksgiving table.
