Bodegas Hidalgo

Bodegas Hidalgo is a legendary name in sherry, best known for their Manzanilla “La Gitana.” Hidalgo’s cellar is located right on the water in Sanlúcar de Barrameda where the humidty and breeze from the ocean preserves the flor to a much greater extent than in other parts of Sherry country.  The resulting wines have a freshness that defines the house style—everything here is based off of the lightness and elegance of Manzanilla and it shows.

“most consistently outstanding set of Riservas I can remember tasting here”–Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco is revered for producing classically-styled Barbaresco and Riservas of uncompromising quality and transparency. It’s a miracle that these wines are still affordable and available, especially when compared to the skyrocketing prices of Barolo. You’d be hard-pressed to find such consistent quality and complexity out of such an extensive range of single-vineyard Nebbiolos anywhere else.

The Remarkable Value Freemark Chard

94 point Chardonnay is a hard thing to do for a reasonable price—especially from Napa.  The 2017 Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Chardonnay is twice as impressive, then, when you taste it and think about the price you paid—less than $22 by the case!  Freemark has been on a roll recently, producing high scoring Napa wines at incredibly fair prices.  They’ve become one of our go-to sources for top quality that won’t break the bank.

Freemark Abbey’s modern era dates back to 1967, when the winery was purchased quickly transformed into one of the most recognized and prestigious wineries in the 70’s and 80’s.

Les Ouvrées Rodin Arrives

Most producers are lucky to own any land in Chambertin Clos de Beze.  It’s hallowed ground in Burgundy—one of the most prestigious vineyards in a region that is known for famous plots.  Faiveley takes it to a new level, though, and produces two bottlings: a “normal” Clos de Beze and their top end cuvee the Clos de Beze “Les Ouvrées Rodin.”
