Willamette Valley Pinot – Magic in the Vineyards

June 2019

Magic in the Willamette Valley

New Reviews from Josh Raynolds of Vinous!

sequitur bottles willamette ribbon ridge“Two thousand sixteen is yet another link in an unprecedented chain of outstanding vintages in the Willamette Valley that began in 2014 and has now extended to 2018. Compared to the ‘14s and ‘15s, the ‘16s, while on the rich side for Pinot Noir, show more freshness than wines of the previous years at a similar stage.” – Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Josh Raynolds at Vinous just handed out some very high scores that come as almost no surprise to anyone paying attention to Willamette wine for the last several years.  We’ve been beating the drum that our local region makes Pinot Noir that is as good or better than anywhere else in the world, especially for the prices asked—and these new reviews just support that argument.… Read the rest

A Trove of Tuscan Treasure

August 30th, 2018

New Releases From Felsina and La Gerla

Arriving in September

la gerla tuscan estate vineyard brunelloRecent vintages have been kind to Tuscany.  2012, 2013 and now 2015 have all been marked successes, delivering wines of opulence and class.  Whether you prefer Brunello, Chianti or Super-Tuscans, there are a multitude of brilliant wines across the region that all deserve your attention.  We have a set of classic producers we love and new releases from two of them arrive in September.

La Gerla makes fantastic Brunello in a traditional (yet approachable) way.  The wines always have striking purity of fruit and elegant structures but are free of the sweet tinted oak that masks many “easy drinking” Brunellos. The pricing is on-point and the combination of all of the above has turned the estate into a Vinopolis staple. … Read the rest

2016 Mosel Rieslings

In Stock Now!

joh. jos. prum wehlener sonnenuhr auslese mosel germany 2016The JJ Prum wines are reference points for Mosel Riesling.  No other producer in the middle Mosel is as respected or collectible.  These are some of the most profound and age-worthy white wines in the world and given the status Prum enjoys, are almost miraculous in their pricing.

The 2016 vintage is another marked success for the estate, producing Riesling of beautiful charm and deliciousness.  There’s no reason to think that these won’t be wines that improve for three decades, but they’re uncommonly tasty for young JJ Prum.  From top to bottom, these are brilliant wines and with the stern 2017’s in the pipeline, definitely the most immediately delicious vintage in many years.… Read the rest
