“Enrico Scavino, of the celebrated Paolo Scavino winery, was among an elite group of winemakers who would later become known as the “Barolo Boys.” This tight-knit group of visionaries raised the bar on quality by incorporating techniques from outside the Langhe (such as the use of barrique and rotofermenters). They traveled far and wide across the great wine regions of the world, and the information they brought back home would contribute to the rise of Barolo as one of the world’s most coveted wines.” -Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Scavino is one of the truly great estates in Barolo, a region with no shortage of famous names. Despite a recent trend towards a more traditional approach, the wines still skew modernist. Rich and powerful in their youth, the wines are built to age. Their true greatness develops after time in the cellar – something that can’t be said about all of Scavino’s modernist peers.

With access to some of Barolo’s most prized vineyards and a winemaking team that embraces the best of both modern and traditional techniques, the Scavino wines are arguably the smartest buys in Barolo today.

Kerin O’Keefe 96 points
“Absolutely gorgeous, the 2019 Barolo from Paolo Scavino stuns with its fragrance of perfumed berry, dark spice, Alpine herb and dog rose. One of best entry level Barolos from the vintage, it’s focused, vibrant and savory, delivering crushed mint, star anise, cranberry, red cherry and blood orange. Elegant and taut, it boasts polished tannins while bright acidity imparts vibrancy and tension
James Suckling 95 points “The fresh flowers, like roses, really come through here. Perfumed. Sliced strawberry and citrus. Full-bodied with linear and tight tannins. Bright acidity gives it drive and focus. Give it four or five years to soften and come together.”

Antonio Galloni-Vinous 91 points
“The 2020 Barolo is seriously beautiful. Pliant and creamy, with terrific depth, the 2020 impresses with its bold, open-knit personality. A burst of dark red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, mint and spice lend notable character to this decidedly exuberant Barolo from the Scavino family.”

“This is more open than other single vineyard releases from Scavino with plum, raspberry and black cherry aromas with hints of honeysuckle. Some wet earth. Full-bodied with chewy tannins on the palate. Hints of citrus skin. Pure. Needs time to soften. “

Paolo Scavino Bric del Fiasc, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml Was $89, Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95+ points
“The 2017 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is another gorgeous wine in the line up from the Scavino family. Readers will find a Barolo that is more nuanced and less bombastic than in the past. Bric del Fiasc has plenty of power on its own, so this style works so well. Dried rose petal, mint, spice, kirsch and iron all blossom with a bit of coaxing. I can’t wait to see how it ages.”
Jeb Dunnuck 95 points “The 2017 Barolo Bric Del Fiasc has pure aromatics of stony graphitic earth, licorice, violets, and cherry liqueur. The palate is balanced, with a full structure, noted by dried apricot, blood orange, and cinnamon. The Bric del Fiasc has both floral lift as well as noble structure and has a refreshing nature. Drink 2024-2046.”

Paolo Scavino Bric del Fiasc, Barolo DOCG 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $249, that’s $236.55 at 5% off and $224.10 at 10% off, 4 magnums in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 98 points
“The 2019 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is the hallmark wine of the estate, and it shows. Taking on more concentration, it is pure and generous with kirsch, star anise, nutmeg, and menthol and moves impressively to the palate with ease and nobility. It offers fantastic depth while remaining true to the vintage and propels forward through an arch of acidity, while having grounded notes of Earl Grey tea, black cherry, and crushed stones as well as ripe tannins. Drink 2026-2046.”
James Suckling 97 points “Aromas of strawberry, orange, white rose, and sandalwood follow through to a full body with very fine tannins that have a velvety texture that is focused and refined. Vivid acidity. Juicy and flavorful. Lovely depth and intensity. Give it five to six years of bottle age”

Paolo Scavino Monvigliero, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $66, that’s $62.70 at 5% off and $59.40 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points
“The 2017 Barolo Monvigliero is classy and polished right out of the gate. Sweet dark cherry, rose petal, mint and cinnamon are some of the nuances that open in the glass. Even with all of its immediacy, the 2017 has plenty of tannin. I would prefer to cellar it for at least a few years. The 2017 is undoubtedly an attractive wine, but its best days lie ahead.”

Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points
“Scavino’s 2020 Barolo Monvigliero is bright and aromatically effusive, as Barolos from this site tend to be, but on the palate, it is quite a bit more reserved – Dried fruit, tobacco, mint and worn-in leather linger. Ideally, I would like to see more Monvigliero sensuality here.”

Paolo Scavino Prapo, Barolo DOCG 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 10 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 points
“The 2020 Barolo Prapò is another impressive wine from the Scavino family in this vintage. Dark and somber, with plenty of Serralunga tannin, the 2020 impresses with its superb balance and class. Dark fruit, iron, leather, menthol and espresso build as this dramatic, wonderfully resonant Barolo shows off its stylish personality. Elegance and power.”

Paolo Scavino Ravera, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 96 points
“The 2017 Barolo Ravera is dazzling. Deep, potent and virile, the 2017 has a lot to say, but it won’t be ready to drink anytime soon. Black cherry, graphite, licorice, smoke, game, lavender and licorice convey a real impression of gravitas that is reinforced by the wine’s overall feel. This powerhouse Barolo is magnificent today in a sort of old-school meets new-school style.”

Paolo Scavino Ravera, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $75, that’s $71.25 at 5% off and $67.50 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 95 points
“Aromatically more expressive and ripe with red flowers and fruits, the 2019 Barolo Ravera is more exuberant and open at this stage, with candied cherry, menthol, and sweet balsamic herbs. The palate takes a more savory and coiled stance at this youthful stage, with iron-rich earth, grenadine, and salted orange. Building tannins are in concert with a persistent spine of acidity that will need time to loosen its grip, but this is a fantastic wine to hold and drink 2026-2046.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “With fruit from the village of Novello, this wine is more articulate and shows clearer aromas compared to some of the other Barolos in this set of new releases. The Paolo Scavino 2019 Barolo Ravera takes a little extra time to come into focus. There is dark fruit, dried cherry, spice and some light tarry smoke. With time, the wine begins to show more complexity and nuance. Some 8,200 bottles were made.”
