The Wines of Christophe Baron

We’ve long adored the wines from Christophe Baron. This Champenois-turned-Oregonian more or less put The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater on the map. His Walla Walla portfolio includes Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet, and red blends sourced from Oregon and Washington. Representing the pinnacle of the region’s reds, we’re never surprised when top notch scores are released. No, we’re just pleased as punch that we can continue to offer you these mailing list-mostly gems.

Not satisfied with crafting some of the most famous and sought-after wines in Walla Walla for roughly twenty years, Christophe returned to the Marne Valley of Champagne to craft exquisitely mineral Champagnes from his family’s vines.

Spanish Kings Of Garnacha at 10% Off! 2-9-25

We’re all familiar with the grenache based wines of Southern France. In fact, I’d imagine this is the first place that the wine nerd’s brain descends upon when discussing grenache as a varietal and the styles of wine we feel are emblematic of it. But this is actually not the grape’s true place of heritage! Ampelographical evidence suggests that the grape was first born in Spain’s Northeastern regions of Aragon & Catalonia, where seed remains of Garnacha have been carbon dated back to 153 BC. This predates written records in Europe. It was in the 1300s onwards that the grape began to expand its presence, taking root in outher parts of Southern Europe like Sardinia, Greece, and France.

Tasting a grape from its place of origin brings a sense of enormity and significance that cannot be replicated.… Read the rest

Red, White, and Pink Wines of Provence

The southern French winemaking region of Provence has been home to carefully tended grapevines for over 2,600 years. Many of today’s estates rest on the ancient remains of 1,000-year-old wineries. Here, one finds well known and obscure varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Tibouren. Cinsault makes its mark, bringing lively acidity and rustic spice notes to rosé blends. The region is also a perfect home for Mourvèdre, where long-lived, expansive reds and rosés take flight.

Two of our favorite estates in the region include Peyrassol, known for its classic and affordable Provencal pinks, and Tempier, beloved for its long-lived rosés yet peerless for its bold and rustic reds.

Scavino

Scavino is one of the truly great estates in Barolo, a region with no shortage of famous names. (Though this estate, fortunately, has yet to climb the heights of pricing.) Despite a recent trend towards a more traditional approach, the wines still skew modernist. Rich and powerful in their youth, the wines are built to age. Their true greatness develops after time in the cellar – something that can’t be said about all of Scavino’s modernist peers.

With access to some of Barolo’s most prized vineyards and a winemaking team that embraces the best of both modern and traditional techniques, the Scavino wines are arguably the smartest buys in Barolo today.

L’Aventure

French winemaker Stephan Asseo founded the tiny and beloved estate of L’Aventure in the 1990s. He settled on Paso Robles for his estate due to its ideal condition for Rhone varieties with a dash of Bordeaux varieties, where he cut his teeth winemaking. He works exclusively with estate-grown fruit from the rolling hills that surround the winery. Aging takes place in the recently dug caves. These maintain a stable temperature and humidity ideal for the slumbering wine without additional energy expenditure. The resulting wines from the gorgeously appointed bottles are stunning. Bold, but with a classic profile of lifted acidity, these show off Paso Robles with panache.
