Brovia sits at the cusp of cult: traditionally farmed and crafted expressive Barolos that insiders have quietly praised and purchased for decades. Ever since the 2015 vintage, we’ve been writing about how surprised we are that these wines don’t fly off the shelf. They seem to have it all: perfectionist vineyard management (organic without certification, careful pruning, and hand harvesting), superb and distinctive holdings (such as Villero in the Serralunga), unapologetically old-school winemaking (long and slow fermentation and long aging in large barrels and, subsequently, in bottle), consistently excellent releases, and enthusiastic purchasing by our staff. A long, solid list of reasons why you should be taking interest.

What do Goodfellow Family Cellars and Tan Fruit have in common? They are top of the Willamette Valley’s greats, receiving top flight praise and appreciation. And they are two of our favorites! In honor of Thanksgiving, we’re placing both of these beloved estates on our three day sale, starting now.

We’ve waxed poetic on both estates for quite some time, but if you’re not familiar, here are our primers to get you up to speed:

Cayuse Vineyards

“The Cayuse wines continue to set the benchmark for Rhône varieties in Washington State…Cayuse Vineyards remains one of only a handful of biodynamic estates in Washington, which I have always found odd, as they prove that biodynamic principles are possible in the region and can create world-class wines. The closed mailing list often dissuades readers looking to explore the range. However, Cayuse continues to release a limited amount of wines into the market that can be found with a bit of searching.”

Joh. Jos. Prüm makes some of the finest and most sought-after wines of the Mosel. These reference-point Mosel Rieslings are some of the most profound and age-worthy white wines in the world. These white wines have near-unparalleled consistency in aging worldwide.

The Prüm wines are high-wire acts of tension between fruit and intense minerality. By some subtle alchemy, the wines spring forth from the parcels of mostly old, ungrafted vines through spontaneous fermentation and a dash of magic in the cellar. The results are deeply expressive of their terroir.

Though Johann Josef Prüm founded the estate in 1911, the family has made wine in Wehlen for centuries.

The Rhône is among the most storied and distinctive wine regions in the world. Here were some of the first cult wines, yet the area abounds with affordable luxuries. If there is a single producer in the Rhône that embodies that combination, it is Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas. Considered a benchmark in its home town, Saint Cosme is a historical gem. The estate was founded in the 1500s and is helmed by the talented Louis Barroul. He is the 14th generation of his family to oversee this storied estate.

The wines Barroul makes are rich and powerful, with undeniable terroir signatures.
