“Compared with the 2021s, the 2022 Pinots generally show more density and more apparent tannins. Many display what I describe as a cherry or raspberry fruit leather quality to their texture and mouthfeel, the result of an erratic growing season that was among the coldest and then the hottest on record.” –Tim Fish, “Tasting Report: Oregon Ascendant,” Wine Spectator

Remelluri bottles at VinopolisTelmo Rodríguez is one of the most talented and well-respected winemakers in all of Spain. He spearheads several highly praised projects around the country, including Ladeiras do Xil, Pegaso, and Molino Real, but nothing compares to the wines of his family’s estate: Remelluri.

Originally founded in the 14th century, the estate was purchased by Rodríguez’s father in the 1960s. Telmo and his sister, Amaia Rodríguez Hernandorena, took over the estate in 2010, the same year the estate became fully organic. It’s located in Rioja Alavesa, the smallest part of the region. Wines here are known for their intensity and power, which Rodríguez couples with his preference for French oak over American (which he finds too aggressive).

Cameron Winery ‘Arley’s Leap’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, USA 2022 750ml $64.50 special, 24 bottles available
Winery Note “Sourced from the highest elevation plot of Pinot Noir at Abbey Ridge, Arley’s Leap is comprised of the famous Martin Ray Clones. These vines yield small, variable clusters and regularly produce some of our most complex wines. The plot is named after Bill and Julia Wayne’s old dog Arley, who survived a jump from a second story balcony when started by a cat. The nose has a compelling balance of savory and fruit aromas — black olive and plum, cherry and leather, bergamot, violet and salumi.

This historic Umbrian estate works with ancient marine soils dating back over three million years. As the first-in-the-US to carry a wide range of these sustainably produced wines in stock and by-the-bottle, we are offering five wines: two Super Tuscan-style red blends and three mineral-driven whites.

Tasting them, you know that these might just be the best value in Italian wine you’ll find in our shop. Were these Tuscan or even French, we’d expect them to go for double easily. It doesn’t hurt, either, that we’re the lowest in the country across the board, and not by insignificant amounts.
