Hundred Acre Kayli 2004 ($349.95) Was $299, Now $279, 6 bottles available
Robert Parker 98 points “The wild man of Napa Valley, Jayson Woodbridge, has turned out one of the superstars of 2004, with the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan. His wines always tend to be gorgeous young, offering up an impression that they’re not going to last. But his first vintage, 2000, seems to get better and better, even though it was spectacular when released. The 2004, which was harvested in September, shows an almost Pomerol-like sweet mocha, kirsch, black currant and deeply fruited mouthfeel. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, but the clay soils of his vineyard seem to give a sweetness of tannin and a voluptuous character to the texture.… Read the rest

Ornellaia Masseto
Best Price in the USA
With the 2011 vintage, Masseto returns to a typically Mediterranean expression of a warm year in the Bolgheri terroir. Yet the overall impression is one of superb balance and measure, notwithstanding the wine’s rich concentration and ripeness.” –From the wineryAfter the early success of his cousin’s wine Sassicaia, Lodovico Antinori founded the Tenuta Dell’Ornellaia in Bolgheri in 1981 (now known as Ornellaia e Masseto).  He was convinced the recently discovered, backwater region could produce world-class Brodeaux-style wines.  Assisted by the internationally famed wine-making consultant Andre Tchelistcheff, he replanted a farm of olive trees and grape vines with Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  The land had the perfect terroir for producing the style of wine he desired: warm temperatures, cooling ocean breezes and calcium rich clay and sandy soils.

Harlan Estate, Napa Valley 2004 1.5L ($1499.95) $999 special, 3 magnums available
Robert Parker 98 points
“Very deep garnet-black colour with a purple rim. Though still very youthful and muted, this vintage is already subtly revealing a wide array of aromas including blackberry tart, cedar, violets, truffles, liquorice and all spice. In the mouth however this is no shrinking violet–the ’04 is a big, concentrated and highly structured wine with somewhat impenetrable, tightly grained tannins and medium to high acid supporting its rich weight. Very, very long finish displaying hints of savoury earthiness and that signature minerality that appears to surface in better years.

Newly Arrived Southern France Wines

First Time Available in the USA

Corbieres is an AOC within the Southern French region of the Languedoc-Roussillon: mostly known for its rich and herbal red wines. The Corbieres region produces only small amounts of white and rose wines. The northern portion, known as Alaric, has plains to the north and south-facing slopes along the Montagne d’Alaric. This is an excellent area for Mourvedre as well as other Southern French varietals such as Grenache and Carignan. In the center of the AOC is the Corbieres-Boutenac AOC, created in 2005. Corbieres-Boutenac is recognized for producing high quality wines from the ten communes that surround a limestone ridge covered in garrigue (a term for the scrubland herbs such as rosemary and lavender that is often used to describe aromas found in the wines).… Read the rest

Collector’s Corner Congested!

New Arrivals of Rare & Rarer Wines

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2012 ($249.95) $199 special
Wine Advocate 97-100 points “More approachable (than the Galatzine Vineyard cabernet), but no less impressive, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) looks gorgeous, and is probably the most complete wine in the lineup. Layered and rich, yet ultra-pure and also elegant, it gives up classic crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice and liquid flower like qualities to go with full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. Relatively civilized, yet with building tannin and richness, it should benefit from short term cellaring and have two decades of longevity.”

This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!… Read the rest
