Vie di Romans Dessimis Pinot Grigio Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2016 750ML ($39.95) $24 pre-arrival special
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2016 Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte Pinot Grigio Dessimis is classified as a white, but it is really a ramato, or copper in color, reflecting the real color of this grape’s skins. Slightly reductive in nature, it brings out notes of cranberry and bright cassis with some white cherry as well. It was fermented in steel and aged on the lees in barrique. This is a very interesting wine that would make a good pairing with sliced porchetta. Exactly 52,286 bottles were released.”
James Suckling 93 points “Vivid peach pit, red guavas, cloves, dried rose petals, lavender, dried herbs and nutmeg. Full body, a very phenolic and oily texture with loads of red-apple flavors and a textured finish. Drink now.”

Ian D’Agata-Vinous 91+ points “Pale pink. Very delicate red berry and floral aromas and flavors are enhanced by good spicy cut and a mineral edge. Nicely juicy and saline freshness on the slightly tactile, rising, long finish.”

Vie di Romans Flors di Uis Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2016 750ML ($39.95) $21.90 pre-arrival special
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “Slightly lower in price compared to this estate’s mono-variety wines, the 2016 Friuli Isonzo Flors di Uis is a blend of 45% Malvasia Istriana, 40% Riesling Renano and 15% Friulano. Production is 23,286 bottles. This unoaked white blend shows a razor-sharp delivery of primary fruit aromas, with zesty freshness and citrusy acidity on the close, followed by white jasmine and honey. The wine shows beautifully in the glass, with a radiant and brilliant appearance.”
James Suckling 90 points “There’s quite a lot of candied-apple character on the nose, even though the dried florals are attractive and spicy. Medium to full body, bright acidity and a textured finish. Drink now.”

Domaine de Triennes Rose, IGP Var 2019 750ML ($19.95) $16 special
VinopolNote: Triennes is the fine result of two of the greatest Burgundian producers making wine in paradise: Jacques Seysses of Dujac and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.
Peyrassol ‘Chateau Peyrassol’ Rose, Cotes de Provence 2019 750ML ($34.95) $28 special
VinePair Rose of the Year 2020 “A delightful reminder of what makes Provence rosé so popular, this wine ticks all the boxes. The nose is delicate but serves layers of white flowers, red fruit, and a sprinkle of savory spices. The palate is both bold and refreshing, with tangy fruit cut by a piercing jolt of acidity. Add a hint of wet rocks and a dusting of white pepper to the equation, and you’ve got yourself the best rosé of 2019. If you can’t find this exact bottle, the producer’s entire range is equally impressive and should be sought out. Average price: $35.”
Rosenthal Wine Merchant note “This is the elite cuvée of the estate relying as it does on grapes harvested from the oldest vines of the domaine (35 years and older). Principally composed of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah, the “Chateau” bottling also sees the addition, from time-to-time of Tibouren, the ancient and regal Provencale grape. This Rosé is produced via the “direct press” method and has a long cuvaison designed to produce a wine of character and concentration. Vinified in stainless steel and bottled in late winter – early spring, production is quite limited.”
Peyrassol ‘Commanderie de Peyrassol’ Rose, Cotes de Provence 2019 750ML ($24.95) $19 special
Rosenthal Wine Merchant note “For us, this wine is the classic representation of the pink-tinted wines of this region and is the workhorse wine of the estate. It carries a pale rose color, a lovely fruit blossom nose and finishes crisply dry with a stony touch that gives it class and elegance. The grape blend is usually Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah in varying percentages. The average age of the vines is 25 years or more. The Rosés of Peyrassol are made from the direct press method. The grapes undergo cold maceration before being pressed. This gives them their beautiful watermelon pink color. The fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures and is exceptionally long, resulting in rosés that are both lively, fresh and full-bodied. As production has increased at Peyrassol with the additional plantings, we too have increased our purchases.”
Peyrassol ‘Le Clos Peyrassol’ Rose, Cotes de Provence 2019 750ML ($69.95) $55 special
Rosenthal Wine Merchant note “It is made from a single parcel which is equally planted to Cinsault and Tibouren (a touch of Rolle makes it into this cuvee as well). The soil is a mix of clay and limestone with a lot of large rocks on the surface. The site has a bit of depression which helps more even ripening, since the soil holds a little more water than other parcels. The 2016 is the palest of the three roses, with a very silvery salmon hue. At the moment of tasting the nose was a tad firm, showing flinty mineral notes. The palate is quite rich and dense with an almost white Burgundy presence. The fruits lean a little sweeter than the other cuvées, with hints of pear and passion fruit. Even so, the wine is completely dry and has a super-long mineral finish. It’s a great rosé that has the potential to age, and we hope some of you keep a few bottles to drink over the next several years.”
Staff pick! A bright, fresh and exuberant rose. Shows a deft mix of fun fruit and crisply refreshing acidity.
Lauriga Chateau Lauriga Cotes du Roussillon Rose 2019 750ML ($24.95) $17 special
Local Importer note “This blend of old-vine Syrah and Grenache serves as the Domaine’s flagship these days, and it is quickly becoming an emblem of the appellation with its pale orange color and luxuriously long aromas and flavors of creamy alpine strawberries, orange blossom, and wild herbs. As if that wasn’t enough this has the most gorgeous package we’ve laid our eyes on in our 45-year-history.”

Chateau Routas Coteaux Varois en Provence Rose 2018 750ML ($19.95) $16 special
James Suckling 93 points “The nose here is immediately captivating with its freshness, focus and interest. It suggests sea salt, thyme, freshly squeezed nectarines and a touch of well-executed, lifted citrus. The palate shows some good density and the fruit/acid balance is played out nicely. Medium-bodied and sleek and refreshing. Makes you come back for more. Routas on the money as always. Drink now.”

“Shimmering orange-pink. Racy and focused on the nose, displaying mineral-tinged strawberry and orange pith aromas and a subtle floral overtone. Dry, tangy and precise on the palate, offering taut red fruit flavors and a touch of bitter blood orange. Finishes with firm cut and good, mineral-driven tenacity.” -Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Vincent Fritzsche makes the best Pinot Blanc in the Valley. Nuff said.
Vincent Pinot Blanc, Willamette Valley 2018 750ML ($21.95) $19 special
Winery note “This year’s Blanc shows a bit more richness than ’17, more like the ’16 which was a favorite. Grapes here are now coming from a small plot I lease at Zenith Vineyard in the Eola Hills, vines from the 1990s. As usual, this wine is made just like Chardonnay, naturally fermented in older French oak, on the lees for nearly a year and bottled unfiltered. Bright color, mineral and apple aromas, all variety of apples and citrus flavors, creamy from the lees aging, then fantastic acidity to keep your mouth watering. So good.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Chardonnay, Dundee Hills 2018 750ML ($39.95) $33 special
VinopolNote: After the 2017 vintage garnered 94 points from Wine Advocate, it nearly disappeared off our shelves. Fortunately, the 2018 is a very worthy follow up, and showing a little more complete at this stage in its development than had the 2017. We’ll have to wait another year for the critics to weigh in, but that shouldn’t stop you…
The 2016 of this (formerly) restaurant-only wine was such a resounding success that we bought up every case available and asked for more. Marcus graciously offered the 2017. It’s a stunning follow up for the money, showing more of the classic savoriness that his wines are known for in a more open and easy-drinking style. This is light-bodied Pinot in its prime, and quite possibly the best drink-now Pinot available for under $16/btl by the case!
Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2017 750ML ($21.95) $18 special

Case-12 Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2017 750ML ($219.95) $189 special (that’s only $15.75/bottle!)
VinopolNote: We can’t get enough of Marcus Goodfellow’s Willamette Valley Pinots. With restaurants only offering takeout for the foreseeable future, Marcus is letting us share his by-the-glass Pinot with you. It’s an insane value!

Ovum ‘Big Salt’, Elkton 2019 750ML ($19.95) $16 special
Winery note “BIG SALT is a white wine that tries to capture a day at the beach in a bottle. Fresh, dry, breezy – the bright aromas of the wine are met with a dry, almost salty textured palate that’s well-suited for sitting in the sun and hanging with friends. Sustainable and Organic vineyards throughout Oregon are the building blocks for Big Salt.”

Ovum ‘To Love Somebody’ Gerber Vineyard Gewurztraminer, Rogue Valley 2018 750ML ($29.95) $19.90 special
Winery note “2018 To Love Somebody Gewurz is restrained, elegant and refined. Framed by floral elements, flamed orange peel and a general lack of lychee and anything overbearing, this 2018 is different for sure. A cool growing season lead to extended days of sunlight in the harvest window of mid-October. Low to no botrytis brought us clean fruit, that was remarkably high in acid for the variety. That acidity is prominent on the palate, giving this offering a framework and length similar to 2016 and 2014. It is one of our most age worthy Gewürztraminers to date, and will pair very well with most sushi, roasted veg and fowl, or classic Alsatian cuisine.”

Ovum ‘Memorista’ Riesling, Oregon 2018 750ML ($29.95) $19.90 special
Wine & Spirits 93 points “This 2018 is all about tension and structure at this early stage, its unbridled energy pressing against a firm phenolic frame. For now, the aromas are savory—of mint, sour apple and lemon pith—but the acids streak across the palate like a rocket, adding a saline tingle to the finish. Pair it with something lemony, like a citrus-spritzed scallop risotto.”

Force Majeure Parabellum Alluvio, Red Mountain 2017 750ML ($69.95) $52.50 special
Jeb Dunnuck 95 points “The Bordeaux side of the Parabellum series, the 2017 Parabellum Alluvio is based on 60% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the final 7% Petit Verdot. This deep ruby/plum-hued effort offers lots of chocolate laced red and black fruits, smoked earth, tobacco leaf, and truffle notes. Full-bodied, rich, and nicely textured, it has some background oak that should integrate with 3-4 years of bottle age, and it’s going to have a 15-year or longer drink window.”

Force Majeure Estate Syrah, Red Mountain 2017 750ML ($89.95) $69 special
Jeb Dunnuck 99 points “A stunning, world-class wine from Red Mountain, the 2017 Syrah Estate is the finest example yet from this steep, rocky terroir and winemaker Todd Alexander. With extraordinary notes of blackberry, smoked game, cassis, graphite, charred meats, and spring flowers, it’s reminiscent of a top Cote Rotie from the Cote Blonde. With full-bodied richness, a beautiful, layered, multi-dimensional texture, ripe tannins, and integrated oak, it’s beautiful today yet will benefit from short-term cellaring and cruise for 15-20 years or more in cool cellars. This sensational wine will stand toe to toe with the best out there.”

Spottswoode Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon, St Helena 2016 750ML ($99.95) $79 special
Wine Enthusiast 95 points “EDITOR’S CHOICE. This wine continues to overdeliver on its price point, offering elegant yet powerful aromas of fig, forest floor and earth. Firm tannins offer grip around flavors of black currant, sage, cedar and flint, with spicy clove lingering on the finish.”
James Suckling 94 points “Attractive, fresh, violet-like flowers, roasting herbs and cassis, leading to a medium-to full-bodied palate that has a smoothly succulent resolve at the plum-soaked, velvety finish. A blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon with touches of petit verdot, merlot, petite sirah and cabernet franc and a dash of malbec. Drink or hold.”
Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Napa County – Sonoma County 2018 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Lisa Perrotti-Brown – Wine Advocate 94 points “The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc bursts from the glass with notes of lemon tart, key lime pie and orange blossoms with nuances of acacia honey, baking bread, fresh grapefruit and crushed stones. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastically intense citrus and mineral notes, framed by great freshness and a silken texture, finishing very long and perfumed.”
Wine Spectator 92 points “Lemon meringue, spice and grapefruit flavors reveal whiffs of lanolin and spice lingering in the background, as well candied ginger and floral details. Balances focus and intensity, with a light body and fresh, juicy acidity. Drink now. 3,754 cases made.”

Varner El Camino Vineyard Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County 2016 750ML ($27.95) $24 special
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Bob and Jim Varner’s 2016 Chardonnay is terrific. Orchard fruit, white flowers, mint, tangerine oil and light tropical overtones infuse the 2016 with notable character. Los Alamos Chardonnays tend to be a bit more lifted, but there is plenty of depth here. Most of the wine was aged in large foudre, which further helps in retaining energy.”
Polaner Selections note “The wine was fermented 100% in stainless steel then aged in a combination of new Francois Freres puncheons (26%) for 6 months and the remainder (74%) in stainless steel on the lees with no malolactic fermentation.”

(Domaine de la Terre Rouge) Easton Zinfandel, Amador County 2015 750ML ($24.95) $19 special
Wine Spectator 92 points “Epitomizes fine Sierra Foothills Zinfandel, offering vibrant, briary raspberry, smoked pepper and wild sweet anise flavors that stretch out on the zesty finish. Drink now through 2023. 6,200 cases made.”
Louis Roederer Brut Rose Millesime, Champagne 2010 1.5L ($219.95) $159 special
Wine & Spirits 96 points “Roederer invested in a separate winery to produce its rose, the facility completed in 2007, taking its classic saignee method wines to a new level. An estate-grown blend of pinot noir from the clay soils of Cumieres with chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs, this is an extraordinary vintage of Roederer Rose. It’s a lithe wine, compelling for its precision rather than for any stylized complexity. In fact, it feels simple, naked, capturing the freshness of the grapes in pale pink energy. The transparent cherry and Honeycrisp apple flavors are inherently balanced and hard to resist.”
James Suckling 95 points “The viticulture here takes its cues from Burgundy with lower yields (40hl/ha), leaf removal, ripe picking and cooling overnight and some cold soaking and skin contact. The chardonnay juice is added to bring the acidity and balance into play, but this also has attractive rose-like florals that really speak of pinot noir. There’s orange zest and some pink grapefruit and even handy nutty elements that creep in. This is every bit as terrific as the 2008. The palate has roundness, flesh and smoothly arranged phenolics. An almost saline chardonnay influence provides a vinous attraction here. Super silky, and the chardonnay finishes it fresh but with a punch. Drink now.”

Le Domaine d’Henri Fourchaume Heritage Premiere Trie, Chablis Premier Cru 2015 750ML ($69.95) $54.50 special
Winery Note “Our Cuvée Héritage is dedicated to the memory of Henri. Hand harvested and hand selected, this is a “première trie”, or selection, of the finest grapes from our oldest parcel of vines, planted in 1937. Vinified and aged in stainless steel tanks (70%) and 228-litre oak barrels (30%), this is an elegant, precise yet racy wine, that expresses the tension and refreshing minerality associated with the great Chablis terroirs. For Henri, this was the purest expression of the Chardonnay grape. A grand vin that will start to reveal its full potential between five and twenty years. The Cuvée Héritage encapsulates our savoir-faire. By selecting only the very best grapes, the production is limited to only a few thousand bottles per year an the volume will vary each year, depending on the quality of the vintage. Serve between 14-15° and decant for 15 minutes before serving. This is a bottle for special occasions. Appreciate on its own with fellow wine lovers, or enjoy with fish, lobster, guinea fowl or even an aged Comté.”

Tamellini Soave, Veneto 2018 750ML ($17.95) $14 special
James Suckling 92 points “Fruity with sliced-lime and papaya aromas and flavors. Full body. Lots of fruit and a crunchy finish. Shows the lovely character of the vintage. Drink now.”
Ian D’Agata-Vinous 91 points “Luminous straw yellow. Varietally accurate and very pure aromas and flavors of white peach, yellow apple, white flowers and delicate herbs. Fresh and well-delineated, this finishes long with sneaky concentration. A truly outstanding Soave. This is easily one of the two entry-level Soaves of the vintage. Very well done. Mostly Garganega with a little Trebbiano di Soave.”

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany 2015 750ML ($69.95) $66 special
Eric Guido – Vinous 93 points “The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino from Casanova di Neru is very pretty, showing bright cherry and strawberry tones, as red florals and dusty spices that rise up from the glass, with just a hint of forest floor. On the palate, silky textures give way to red berry fruits and sweet spices, given lift through vibrant acids, as saline-minerals and hints of fine tannin saturate the senses. It finishes long, juicy, and fresh, with savory spice and residual acids buzzing on the senses while dried red fruits and florals slowly fade. The 2015 Casanova di Neri doesn’t succeed through power; instead it’s a feminine beauty of a wine.”
Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 750ML ($149.95) $119 special
Eric Guido – Vinous 96 points “The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova was quite restrained at first, requiring time in the glass to fully blossom, as subtle red berry fruits slowly gain volume and are then complemented by sweet red florals with hints of exotic spice, peppery herbs, and dusty minerals. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with rich red berry fruits and sweet herbal tones, leaving hints of savory spice and minerals in their wake. The finish is long and unexpectedly fresh, showing the first hints of round tannins under a top note of sweet cherry, plum and a hint of black tea. There is so much going on here, yet it is all densely wrapped up in its youthful state.”
I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna ‘Ante’ Etna Bianco, Sicily 2017 750ML ($34.95) $28 special
Monica Larner – Wine Advocate 91 points “The 2017 Etna Bianco Ante shows a pretty straw color with tight and vibrant aromas of citrus, honey and aniseed. There are creamy notes of mild oxidation or age as well. This wine is mostly Carricante with smaller parts Grecanico and Minnella in the blend. The wine is only two years removed from the harvest, but you already sense some of the petrol or hydrocarbon-like aromas that come when Carricante gets a little bit of bottle age.”

I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna ‘Pistus’ Etna Rosso, Sicily 2017 750ML ($24.95) $21.90 special
Monica Larner – Wine Advocate 90 points “This is a terrific entry-level red from the talented folks at I Custodi. The 2017 Etna Rosso Pistus shows a dark color and a mid-weight style with dark cherry and blackberry. Those primary aromas are followed by the usual succession of oak spice and volcanic ash. Here, however, the delivery of those aromas is particularly bright and balanced. There’s nothing too complicated in this wine, but it hits all the necessary pleasure points and would surely make a great companion to porcini mushroom risotto. The blend is 80-20 Nerellos Mascalese and Cappuccio.”
Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany 2015 750ML ($69.95) $49 special
Case-12 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany 2015 750ML ($799.95) $549 special (that’s only $45.75/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
James Suckling 97 points “Wonderful aromos of flowers, plums, terracotta and white pepper. Intense, yet ever so subtle. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins, and a long and intense finish. Shows excellent length. Drink after 2021.”
Antonio Galloni 94 points “Good deep red. Complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, graphite, mocha, and mint. Focused and suave with very attractive sweetness and standout purity to its flavors of red berries and candied flowers. Finishes with polished tannins and outstanding length.”
Wine Spectator 93 points “Tightly wound, with tart cherry, graphite, earth and cigar box flavors, aligned to an edge of firm tannins. Flirts with rusticity, yet remains tense and smoldering. Should gain more length as it opens. Best from 2023 through 2039.”

Jeb Dunnuck 97+ points “The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a bigger, richer, more opulent wine. Beautiful notes of blackcurrants, scorched earth, graphite, and crushed violets, all flow to a full-bodied, Châteauneuf Du Pape that has a voluptuous, sexy texture, brilliant depth of fruit, fine tannins, and a purity of fruit that’s hard to find in this vintage. It’s a thrill a minute, and while it’s approachable today, it will keep for 15-20 years. 416 cases.”
Decanter 96 points “Grown on galets, the fruit for this wine is all destemmed and fermented in stainless steel before being aged for 16 months, half in concrete and half in new barriques. The strong Mourvèdre component comes through as deep, ripe dark fruits and violets. It’s full-bodied and dense with soft, lush tannins, and is held together by a beam of strong acidity, finishing long. A lithe, muscular, impressive wine that will last the course. Just 5,000 bottles made.”

A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah that saw 50% new barrels, it offers a rich, concentrated, focused texture, notes of black raspberries, roasted garrigue, pepper, and tons of minerality, building tannins, and outstanding length. The new oak is beautifully integrated, it’s perfectly balanced, and it’s one of those wines that has a kiss of modern character yet stays firmly planted in the Southern Rhône.”

“Year after year, Vie di Romans makes some of my favorite Italian Chardonnays… Gianfranco Gallo’s Vie di Romans is one of the most accomplished, quality-minded estates in Italy. I am always impressed by their offerings” –Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
“Gianfranco [Gallo], who has managed the estate since 1978, introduced radical and far-reaching viticultural programmes and has devoted painstaking attention to winemaking practices; these initiatives have given the stamp of unique personality to the wines of Vie di Romans over the last 20 years. “ –Winery note
“[These are] some of the most premier wines in the entire peninsula. The 57 hectares of vineyards are located in a niche microclimate that benefits from soil rich in alluvial fans and minerals that have been carried there by glaciers over the millennia, as well as, the Bora winds from the east that result in large, daily temperature fluctuations.” –Vias Wine Imports

Vie di Romans Chardonnay Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2016 750ML ($39.95) $28 pre-arrival special

The notes of exotic fruit and papaya are almost incomparable in definition, with some sweet cinnamon mingling in there as well. The mouthfeel is silky and long, with an esoteric or abstract quality that is hard to put into words but remains mysterious and attractive nonetheless. Enjoy this barrique-aged Chardonnay with someone who can appreciate this level of craftsmanship. Production is exactly 57,613 bottles.”
James Suckling 94 points “Lemon and apple curd, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, pie crust, dried apricots and papaya. Full-bodied and very textured with a butteriness, but forthright acidity that carries this through to a creamy finish. Drink now.”

Drink now.”

Drink now.”

Drink now.”

Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastically intense citrus and mineral notes, framed by great freshness and a silken texture, finishing very long and perfumed.”

Pure joy from a joyous vintage!
Cameron Winery Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2018 750ML ($29.95) $27 pre-arrival special
Case-12 Cameron Winery Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2018 750ML ($369.95) $315 pre-arrival special (that’s only $26.25/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
VinopolNote: The 2018 shows more color and immediate impact than the 2017. (We’re extremely excited about the vintage.) Right out of the bottle, it’s well balanced and medium-bodied. It’s showing aromas of boysenberries, purple lilacs, and spice with a touch of black tea and a palate-cleansing astringency on the finish. John Paul declassified a few extra barrels of what would have made it into the Abbey Ridge bottling to be able to offer more Pinot at this price point (who knows where the economy is heading). Fortunately for you, we’re going deep and offering it for the lowest price in the USA. It’s the perfect case of wine for drinking now, next and later.
A classic example of Ribbon Ridge and a now-very-affordable bottling from one Oregon’s upper echelon Pinot producers.
Brick House Vineyards Select Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2017 750ML ($41.95) Was $36, Now $30.90 pre-arrival special
Erin Brooks – Wine Advocate 91 points “The entry-level 2017 Pinot Noir Select was made with about 20% whole clusters and aged 15 months in neutral French oak. It has a pale ruby color and aromas of crunchy cranberries, Bing cherries, red licorice, raspberries and blackberries with notes of Earl Grey tea leaves, cured meats and cracked pepper. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft, earthy and juicy with a refreshing finish. 846 cases produced.”
Winery Note “When Mother Nature offers a bountiful year, we routinely bottle this entry level Pinot Noir. As the name implies, the “Select” is a selection of barrels representing all the vineyard blocks on the farm at the discretion of the winemaker. The most easy-going and approachable of all our Pinot Noirs, the “Select” is a moderately priced, estate grown wine and a worthy accompaniment to a casual meal of salmon, lamb or wild game.”

Excelsior Chardonnay, Robertson, South Africa 2018 750ML ($11.95) $9.90 pre-arrival special
Neal Martin-Vinous 91 points “The 2018 Excelsior was 25% fermented in new French oak and 25% fermented with wild yeast. It has a detailed, fresh citrus peel and light passion fruit bouquet, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is taut and fresh, offering a lovely twist of sour lemon on the entry, moderate depth and a taut, quite saline finish. Excellent.”

Rosé of the Day
Le Galantin
A Portland Staple!
This is Portland’s favorite non-sparkling pink and Bandol rosé at its crisp-est. This is always the first rosé we sell out of each year. Partly because our supply is limited (we get more cases of Ameztoi Rubentis) but mostly because it’s just so damn delicious. We have just shy of ten cases in stock. For this wine, that’s not a lot.
Le Galantin Bandol Rose, Provence 2019 750ML ($21.95) $18 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Importer note “Classic Provençal rosé with delightful tree-fruit and citrus notes (peach, nectarine, grapefruit) and a crisp finish. Structured and complex, with citrus and red fruit on the palate. Around 5850 cases produced. Around 50% Mourvèdre, 25% Cinsault and 25% Grenache, from vines planted on southwest facing hillsides, with clay/limestone soil.”
Importer note “The ancient steep vineyards of Bandol – first planted by Phocaean Greeks c.600BC – are the perfect home for Mourvèdre. This variety produces wines that can age at least three decades. As at le Galantin, the best vineyards are planted on poor clay and sandy soil on old terraces, known locally as restanques. The appellation’s 1400 hectares of largely south facing vineyards get an extraordinary 3,000 hours of sun a year, but the heat is tempered by constant wind and also humidity from the sea. Following the steps of her father Achille, who bought the land in 1960 and produced his first vintage in 1972, Céline Pascale took over the domaine in 1999. She is helped by her brother Jérôme, who takes care of the vineyards. Today, Domaine le Galantin farms 30 hectares of terraced vineyards located in Le Plan du Castellet. Everything is hand-harvested and done with organic methods.”

Grand Veneur
The Trailblazing Domaine Grand Veneur
Alain Jaume’s Domaine Grand Veneur is a trailblazer in Chateauneuf du Pape that continues to make some of the finest wines in the appellation. These are some of the most dramatic, powerful and opulent bottlings made in the Southern Rhone today and the prices they charge make them a steal compared to their nearest competitors.
Grand Veneur was one of the first in the region to use new oak barrels and consistently use more Syrah and Mourvèdre to than many of their peers, resulting in wines that have color and power than wines that driven by Grenache for their character. The flagship is clearly the Vieilles Vignes—a wine that is on par with Clos de Papes, Janasse’s “XXL” and Clos St. Jean’s top cuvees, but is still less than $100 a bottle—for now. That said, the other wines offer excellent value, as well, from the drink-now, traditionally minded “Miocene” to their full-throttle “Les Origines.” We have the ’17’s arriving tomorrow and you’d do well to put a pile of these in your cellar.

Case-6 Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf-du-Pape Le Miocene Rouge, Rhone 2017 750ML ($299.95) $219 special (that’s only $36.50/bottle!)
Jeb Dunnuck 91 points “The traditional cuvée at this great estate is the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Miocene, and in 2017 it’s a classic blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, brought up mostly in concrete (there’s a small amount in older barrels). It has a wonderful fresh, forward, delicious style as well as notes of black raspberries, garrigue, pepper, and hints of flowers. Pure, medium to full-bodied, upfront and ready to go, it’s a beauty geared for drinking over the coming 8-10 years.”

Case-6 Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, Rhone 2017 750ML ($719.95) $479 special (that’s only $79.83/bottle!)

Jeb Dunnuck 95+ points “The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Origines takes things up a notch on the serious scale and has a much more concentrated, focused, structured style.
