Ambition and drive define Markus Molitor and his incredible wines. After 35 years at the helm of the family business, Markus remains one of the most respected winemakers in the world. With broad holdings, Molitor crafts dozens of wines each vintage. He believes that every single sub-parcel and selective pick should be vinified to its utmost potential. What results is a deeply rewarding if sprawling portfolio.
Whether white capsule (dry), green capsule (off-dry), or gold capsule (fruity to nobly sweet), Markus’ wines represent some of the Mosel’s best. And thanks to his extensive holdings, Molitor offers German Riesling lovers with a passport to explore many of the region’s most important vineyards. How to choose? Let us guide you through the wines village-by-village as we explore this excellent producer on our three-day sale!
In the center of the town of Kinheim facing south towards the Mosel River is the VDP Grosse Lage vineyard Rosenberg. The vineyard slope is roughly sixty degrees, steep by anyone’s measure. The soil here is coarse, red-brown, and full of grey slate. It’s quick draining, at times testing the limits of the grape vines. But in their struggles, the vines offer small berries that produce gorgeous wines with delicacy and minerality.
Hubertuslay is just upriver from Rosenberg. This site offers deep soils rich in weathered grey slate. It’s cool and buffeted by the wind. Molitor’s portion is steep with a southern exposure. The wines show incredible depth with freshness, delicacy, and incredible aromatics.
We’re offering all of our Molitor wines from the village of Kinheim on our three-day sale. Stock up and explore the terroir-driven wines from one of German’s most famous winemakers!

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese ** Trocken (White Capsule), Mosel 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $51.90, that’s $49.31 at 5% off and $46.71 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 95+ points “The 2019 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese ** (White Capsule) displays an intense yet remarkably refined slate and ripe-fruit aroma. Round, lush and piquant on the palate, with a crystalline and salty, very delicate yet vibrantly fresh acidity, this is a full-bodied, intense and complex, very long and textural Hubertuslay from finely weathered slate soils. The finish is long, fresh and round as well as grippy, salty and piquant. Still young and with fine tannins, the 2019 will benefit from bottle aging. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Spatlese Feinherb (Green Capsule), Mosel 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $29, that’s $27.55 at 5% off and $26.10 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2018 Riesling Kinheimer Rosenberg Spätlese (Green Capsule) is very clear, fine and intense on the perfectly elegant and polished nose that is immediately attractive and complex. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a dense yet crystalline, precise and piquant Spätlese with the charming texture of very ripe Riesling berries and sweet marilles, yet its filigreed and sustainable structure leads to a long and intense finish. This is another impressive 2018 Rosenberg selection that shows how well the old vines in this terroir on deeper soils shine in the 2018s. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Auslese *** Feinherb (Green Capsule), Mosel 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 23 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2016 Riesling Kinheimer Rosenberg Auslese *** (Green Capsule) offers a super fine raisin and refreshing slatey/flinty bouquet that indicates great purity, finesse and crunchy/slatey freshness. The fermentation stopped at 34 grams of residual sugar per liter (11% alcohol), and the resulting wine is highly delicate, pure, lush and piquant on the palate. It is quite sweet and shows celery flavors as well as great tension that is neither rustic nor challenging but really fine, giving vibrancy, grip and energy to the lush and generous but always precise and elegant Riesling fruit. This is an exciting wine, and Markus filled it as a three-starred Auslese for the first time because he was convinced the wine deserves it. Tasted March 2018.”
Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule), Mosel 2013 375ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 8 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2013 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** needs a little but of time to open up and show its finest, intense raisin aromas indicating grapefruit/lemon and pineapples on a piquant background. Rich, oily textured and extremely elegant on the palate, the wine offers a lavish tropical juiciness quoting pineapples, but is stunningly pure and piquant. The finish is beautifully balanced and highly elegant. This is perfectly made.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule), Mosel 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $89, that’s $84.55 at 5% off and $80.10 at 10% off, 9 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98 points “Tasted again in May 2018 along with the corresponding Graacher Himmelreich Auslese *** the 2016 Riesling Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) opens with a very clear and floral flavored bouquet intertwined with finest flinty aromas and a generous ripeness but also precision. Fascinating! The palate is generously sweet but elegant, highly finessed and almost weightless in its perfect balance. This fruit is irresistible! Perfectly ripe and healthy raisins, finest Riesling berries from a fastidious selection process. The finish is so incredibly delicious that it is almost impossible to share a bottle: You will most probably have emptied the bottle on your own before you will have realised that your counterpart likes second glass as well. This is so filigreed and utterly balanced that it’s nothing but a gorgeous drinking experience. Ripe pears in the aftertaste.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule), Mosel 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 99 points “The 2017 Riesling Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is clear and concentrated, on the deep and complex nose with stewed peach aromas intertwined with spicy notes of a fleeting kiss of oak and nougat. It has a highly elegant, refined and salty-piquant palate with fine grip and mineral tension. This Hubertuslay is rich, lush and sweet, with remarkable concentration but also weightless finesse and a lean, salty-piquant finish that tickles the palate. Lemon chutney flavors intertwined with the crystalline salinity characterize the long finish of this beauty. Tasted at the domain in April 2019.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule), Mosel 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 24 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97+ points “The 2019 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is utterly intense as well as refined on the subtle, finely slatey and crunchy nose. Piquant and fresh on the first attack, this is a crystalline, finely grippy and lingering salty Auslese with great tension, finesse and terroir expression. This is an Auslese to keep for another 5-10 years. This is very precise and piquant and still grippy, but it will smoothen with time. Tasted in May 2021.”
Markus Molitor Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule), Mosel 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $89, that’s $84.55 at 5% off and $80.10 at 10% off, 17 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98+ points “The 2017 Riesling Kinheimer Rosenberg Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is super fine and delicate on the concentrated and peach-scented nose, which reveals an unexpected subtleness for this terroir that normally leans toward ruthless opulence. On the palate, this is a lush, highly refined and salty Auslese with amazing purity, piquancy, finesse and elegance. The acidity is pronounced but also delicate and gives this very fine Auslese piquancy and precision. Tasted at the domain two times in April 2019.”

Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 99 points “The intensely lemon colored 2019 Kinheimer Rosenberg Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is pure and salty on the nose that reveals pretty unique flint stone aromas intertwined with perfectly ripe and precise Riesling berry aromas. Dense yet lush and highly refined on the palate, this is an enormously salty Auslese that is irresistible in its finesse and stimulating crystallinity. Absolutely gorgeous and salivating! Tasted in May 2021.”
Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Beerenauslese, Mosel 2017 375ml Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 8 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 99 points “The 2017 Riesling Kinheimer Hubertuslay Beerenauslese is very concentrated and fresh and needs time to open up and unfold its flavors. Salty-piquant and terribly fresh on the palate, this is another exciting discovery from the Hubertuslay, a former highly regarded cru that Molitor has brought back onto the track of the Mosel’s finest terroirs. His 2017 BA is, of course, sweet and concentrated but also stunningly precise and fresh, crystalline and salty and reveals great energy and finesse. It’s a gorgeous wine and almost too good to be true. Tasted at the domain in April 2019.”
Mosel Fine Wines 96+ points “The 2017er Kinheimer Hubertuslay Beerenauslese (Golden Capsule) offers a hugely complex and big nose of pear, grapefruit, orange blossom, candied pineapple and fine spices. The wine is beautifully playful and superbly precise on the palate, where gorgeous fruity and exotic flavors of pear, mango and apricot mingle with some almond paste and minerals. The finish is long, suave and above all very precise. Sweetness still dominates the after-taste. But give this beauty ideally more than a decade and it will prove utterly irresistible. 2032-2067.”
