Domaine Huber-Verdereau Volnay, Cote de Beaune 2010 750ML ($49.95) Buy Now: $39 special
Volnay as it should be. Soft, perfumed, and elegant, especially on the finish. Refined, not rustic. Pinot Noir character defined. Thibault Huber-Verdereau’s 2010 Volnay represents this style of Volnay. Biodynamics and old-vine family holdings account for some of the wine’s beauty. A ripe vintage and Thibault’s dedicated passion explain the rest. Production is very limited, and the wines are made just down the road from Thibault’s friends Michel Lafarge et famille, in the heart of little Volnay. A wine to enjoy now or keep a bit longer, and a producer to add to your list. – Daniel
Burghound 88 Points “A pretty mix of red and blue pinot fruit aromas exhibits plenty of earth influence that continues onto the silky and pure middle weight flavors that culminate in a moderately rustic and austere finish. This will need a few years to flesh out and add depth.” BH

Burghound 90 Points “Huber indicated that this was vinified with 50% whole clusters. A notably floral nose of ripe and pure red pinot fruit scents gives way to attractively detailed, intense and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors that possess a balanced, spicy, dusty and lingering mineral-inflected finish. This is really lovely if not particularly deep though it’s already so pretty that if it can add more depth in bottle my score may seem unduly conservative.” BH
