Von Winning Riesling Sekt Extra Brut, Pfalz NV 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now

David Schildknecht-Vinous 92 points “Based largely on vintage 2016 and on grapes from Ruppertsberg (especially Linsenbusch), this offers a mouthwatering and remarkably Chablis-like evocation of salted, herbed chicken stock and oyster liquor. Walnut and peach kernel piquancy stimulate further on a brightly lemony, buoyant palate. The mousse is admirably fine, the long finish both cheek-pinching and saliva-inducing, irrepressibly juicy and loaded with animal as well as mineral savor. Coming as it does in large part from a relatively sandy and flat Einzellage with only a very modest reputation, I was amazed at both this wine’s strength of personality and its quality. Weingut Dr. Deinhard was strongly associated with sparkling wine from its mid-19th-century inception, and ever since the estate’s 2009 sale, the revival of the name von Winning, and Stephan Attmann’s installation as winemaker, traditional-method sparkling wine from cask-fermented musts has been a very serious part of the estate program. Results keep reaching new levels of finesse.”
Von Winning Sauvignon Blanc II Trocken, Pfalz 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 32 bottles in stock now
Falstaff Magazine 91 points “Slightly closed-reductive aroma, spontaneous fermentation. Dense structure, firm acidity and smooth base, very good in freshness and tension. Aromatically restrained but the substance is excellent. Will continue to develop positively.”
Dr. Burklin-Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling Trocken, Pfalz 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $18, that’s $17.10 at 5% off and $16.20 at 10% off, 27 bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 92 points “Slightly funky (from wild ferment) but also great citrus, pear and peach aromas. Good concentration for a village wine with quite a linear profile. Very clean finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

Schlossgut Diel Burg Layen Riesling, Nahe 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $29, that’s $27.55 at 5% off and $26.10 at 10% off, 21 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2021 Riesling Burg Layer Schlossberg 1G opens with a pure, intense and concentrated stone fruit aroma intertwined with iodine and spicy notes. Very much Riesling on the palate, with stewed fruit aromas, this is a pure, persistently saline and tensioned dry Riesling that combines ripe and concentrated fruit with a long but still tight and reduced finish.”

Weingut Karthauserhof Schieferkristall Riesling Trocken, Mosel 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $33, that’s $31.35 at 5% off and $29.70 at 10% off, 10 bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 93 points “This remarkable dry Mosel riesling squares the circle, by pumping out the ripe-peach and heady, floral aromas and showing beautiful balance of juicy fruit with lively acidity, yet only 10.5% alcohol. I love the tingling minerality and spritz at the finish. Maybe Einstein could explain how that’s possible?”

Kruger-Rumpf Abtei ‘1937’ Riesling Trocken, Nahe 2018 750ml Was $39, Displayed Price: $33, that’s $31.35 at 5% off and $29.70 at 10% off, 35 bottles in stock now
Grapelive 94-96 points “The 2018 barrel sample of Kruger-Rumpf’s Abtei 1937 was stunningly gorgeous with brilliant details, ripe extract density, vivid mineral tones and vibrant acidity showing a purity and vitality of youth, but with the complexity and length of its old vine material. Georg Rumpf has crafted a Trocken beauty here with layers of delicacy and substance. This juice is on par with almost any GG, making it an incredible value already. Be sure to book your allocation of this ultra-limited bottling from Terry These and importer Skurnik Wines. You will not be disappointed…”

Weingut A.J. Adam Dhroner Häs’chen Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Mosel 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $66, that’s $62.70 at 5% off and $59.40 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “The 2022er Häs’chen, as it is referred to on the consumer label (the reference to GG is provided in small print on the side of the label), is a dry wine fermented in oak cask with fruit picked on un-grafted vines planted in 1933. It offers a superb even if still slightly yeasty and backward nose which only gradually reveals its stunning scents grapefruit, elderflower, a hint of cassis, floral elements, whipped cream, and smoke. The wine develops a beautifully subtle feel on the palate where fresh fruit and fine spices make for a hugely enjoyable experience. The finish is incredibly alluring as it is not overly intense but oh-so subtle and refined. 2027-2037.”

Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 97 points “A masterpiece from an almost unknown vineyard site. The cool and deep nose pulls you into this very concentrated and supple dry riesling GG that has so much power, packed into a sleek silhouette. Long, silky and chalky finish. Drink or hold.”

Weingut Donnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Nahe 2022 1.5L Displayed Price: $219, that’s $208.05 at 5% off and $197.10 at 10% off, 3 magnums in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 98 points “What an exquisite stone fruit nose this super-fine and filigree dry riesling has! Yes, it is also very concentrated, but this and the power are completely underplayed. The result is an almost weightless palate that hangs like a white cloud in the still air. Extraordinary purity and precision at the almost endless finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification. Drink or hold.”
Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten ‘Im Breumel’ Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Pfalz 2018 750ml Was $49, Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 97 points “Very floral with pretty herbal undertones, ranging from coriander to dill to mint. The flowers range from jasmine to honeysuckle to almond blossom. Understated and elegant from the outset. The palate has a very chalky feel to the texture with overlapping, firm lines of acidity and dainty citrus fruit. Immaculately ironed-out edges and well-defined, linear crease. Drink now or hold.”

Weingut Karlsmuhle Kaseler Nies’chen Kabinett Riesling, Mosel 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $19, that’s $18.05 at 5% off and $17.10 at 10% off, 22 bottles in stock now
Falstaff Magazine 91 points “The Kabinett from the old vines attracts more with gentle restraint than demonstrative aromatics. The fruit is discreet with hints of peach and gooseberry, a touch of icing sugar encourages sweet expectations. On the palate, a creamy orange mousse is ingratiating, the taste of grated citrus peel adds a spicy nuance, and icing of the finest kind provides a seductive finish.”

Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett Gold Capsule, Mosel 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $26, that’s $24.70 at 5% off and $23.40 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 92 points “From the higher parts of the cru, the 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Golden Capsule) is clear, bright, intense and fruity on the elegant, slatey nose. The palate is lush, round and aromatic as well as refined, and the sweetness is balanced by the delicate, vivid, crystalline acidity. The finish is stimulatingly salty. A lovely wine that I would keep for some years, though the 2019 already drinks very well. Tasted in May 2021.”

Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett, Mosel 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 93+ points “The 2020 Zeltinger Schlossberg Kabinett offers a bright yet intense and finely flinty, very delicate bouquet of bright fruits and crushed/weathered slate. Lush and round but vital and bright on the palate, this is a highly delicate and saline, well balanced and juicy picture-book Kabinett. Superb! 9% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.”

Weingut Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese, Nahe 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 97 points “Wonderful white-peach, mandarin and orange-blossom nose that also has something dark and “earthy” behind all the charm. So much depth and energy that it makes your bones rattle! Staggering intensity at the vibrant, lemony finish. The grape sweetness is there, but way in the background. From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification. Drink or hold.”

Kruger-Rumpf Munsterer Pittersberg Riesling Spatlese Gold Capsule, Nahe 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
David Schildknecht-Vinous 95 points “Picked at the end of October but with minimal botrytis, this certainly stands in magnificent contradiction to my vintage generalization that picking past the middle of that month was not advantageous. Unlike its counterpart form the Dautenpflänzer, this was raised in cask, and was allowed to ferment to a lower level of residual sugar. It comes off as a riper, richer sibling of the corresponding Im Pitterberg Riesling Kabinett, its gloss merging with creaminess, yet with fresh white peach and lime juiciness complementing ripe quince and serving for animation and refreshment. The finish is unexpectedly electrifying in its vibrancy and mouthwateringly saline, and gains stimulating counterpoint from peach kernel piquancy, peach fuzz prickle and a crystalline sense of stone-showering mineral impingement. (If there is a second, “regular” Im Pitterberg Spätlese from this vintage, I am not aware of it.)”

Weingut Prinz Hallgartener Jungfer Riesling Spatlese, Rheingau 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $34.50, that’s $32.78 at 5% off and $31.05 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 97 points “Give yourself a holiday and forget all your cares! This super fine Spätlese has a stunning floral-honey, white-currant and dried-herb nose. Very succulent and concentrated with super bright acidity that interlocks beautifully. At the very mineral finish it’s almost dry. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

Peter Lauer Ayler Kupp Fass 7 Riesling Spatlese, Mosel 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 10 bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “The 2023 Kupp Spätlese N°7, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, with AP 71 was made from fruit harvested at 90° Oechsle from vineyards on the original Kupp hill and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (67 g/l). This hay-yellow-colored wine offers a rather subtle and very complex nose made of earthy spices, pear, apricot blossom, a hint of date, cream, and smoke. It proves very subtle and elegant on the palate, where a touch of zest brings the right kick to the complex creamy and fruity flavors. The finish is subtly racy, delicately creamy, and, above all, hugely satisfying. This is a great under-toned but complex expression of Spätlese in the making. 2033-2048.”

Weingut Jos. Christoffel Jr. Christoffel-Prum Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese ***, Mosel 2014 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 8 bottles in stock now
VinopolNote: Erderner Prälat occupies a mere 2.2 hectares. Entirely south-facing, the vineyard is surrounded by cliffs which insulate the vines – as a result, Prälat is one of the warmest plots in the region. Over time, it has also become one of the most sought-after vineyards. Given the limited space, only a few winemakers have access to the vineyard.

Weingut Alfred Merkelbach Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese #9, Mosel 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 28 bottles in stock now
John Gilman 93+ points “The 2018 Auslese AP #9 from the Würzgarten vineyard is another tour de force from the Merkelbachs. It offers up a magical aromatic constellation of pear, white grape, strawberries, a lovely foundation of red slate and a potpourri of floral tones redolent of violets, lilacs and orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and gently glazed, with very clean botrytis, a lovely core, bright acids and a long, complex and still quite youthful finish. This is a touch more botrytized and powerful in personality than the AP #10 version, and it will need a bit more time to really start to express itself, but it should be outstanding in due course. 2028-2065. 93+.”

Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** Gold Capsule, Mosel 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 99 points “The 2016 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) indicates gorgeously ripe and lush Riesling fruit with very fine flinty slate aromas that add freshness, finesse and complexity. This nose is incredibly pure and precise and doesn’t indicate any botrytis. The palate is highly elegant and fine but, at the same time, lush and salty with a highly delicate but persistent structure. The finish is mouthwatering and enormously stimulating. This Wehlener Sonnenuhr is another extremely digestible yet complex Auslese that you can drink in large amounts without getting bored or tired. The acidity is so delicate and fine here and lets this gold-capsuled Auslese dance over your palate. I just love it. Bottled September 2017; tasted March 2018.”

Weingut Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese #11, Mosel 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $89, that’s $84.55 at 5% off and $80.10 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
John Gilman 95 points “According to Christophe Schaefer, the 2018 Domprobst Auslese AP #11 has just a tiny touch of botrytis in it, as it has almost exclusively been produced from golden berries. The wine is truly stunning on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet soaring from the glass in a blaze of pear, yellow plum, fresh pineapple, a gorgeous base of slate, citrus blossoms, bee pollen and lilacs. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and zesty, with a lovely core, great backend mineral drive and outstanding complexity and grip on the vibrant, snappy and electric finish. This is just beautiful Auslese! 2026-2085+. 95.”

Weingut Emrich-Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Nahe 2018 375ml Was $299, Displayed Price: $249, that’s $236.55 at 5% off and $224.10 at 10% off, 14 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98+ points “The 2018 Halenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is incredibly pure and aromatic on the nose where super ripe but clear peach aromas are displayed. Extremely rich and refined on the palate, this is a ripe, terribly sweet but refined, fresh and salty-piquant TBA with a stimulating finish. A fabulous wine. Tasted in July 2019.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Mosel 2018 375ml Displayed Price: $399, that’s $379.05 at 5% off and $359.10 at 10% off, 12 half-bottles in stock now
John Gilman 95 points “The 2018 Juffer TBA is just a bit higher in residual sugar than the Beerenauslese this year, as Oliver estimates that it is around one hundred and eighty grams per liter. This too is a gorgeous wine in the making, offering up refined bouquet of mirabelle, honey, white cherries, candied violets, citrus zest and a nice touch of saltiness from the slate. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, creamy and very long and complex, with excellent focus and grip, sound acids and a very long, pure and zesty finish. Utterly captivating and borderline criminal to spit. 2019-2100.”

The Incomparable Domaine Leflaive
Domaine Leflaive is the white Burgundy domaine against which all others are judged. Moreso than names like Coche or PYCM (who are great, but sui generis), the whites of Leflaive are immaculate in their quality but very much what we all think of when we hear the words “white Burgundy.” The wines are an experience and a master class in terroir. The vineyard team, who has had direct lineage for three generations, and the late Anne-Claude Leflaive took careful farming to a new level as one of the earliest adopters of biodynamics in the Cote d’Or.
The soil of Puligny-Montrachet seems to run in the veins of the Leflaives. The estate goes back to the end of the 19th century, when Joseph Leflaive laid the groundwork of rehabilitating the vineyards and eventually selling wine under his own label instead of selling to negociants.
These are, quite simply, the best wines you’ll find in Puligny-Montrachet, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a purer expression of Chardonnay anywhere on the planet.
In Stock & On Sale Now:
Domaine Leflaive Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 750ml Was $1,899, Now $1,479, 1 bottle in stock now
Burghound 95-97 points “Don’t Miss! A wonderfully floral-suffused nose reflects additional notes of petrol, citrus, white orchard and a hint of oak toast. The bigger and richer flavors also possess a gorgeous mouthfeel that is almost delicate yet racy with excellent delineation on the youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finish that just goes on and on. This is potentially a magnificent Bātard and it’s going to be interesting to compare this with the Bienvenues-Bātard-Montrachet in a decade’s or so time. In sum, I would offer the same advice – if you can find it, buy it.”
Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 750ml Was $2,499, Now $1,999, 1 bottle in stock now
Burghound 96-98 points “Don’t Miss! Strikingly elegant, cool and restrained aromas are comprised by notes of citrus confit, mineral reduction, anise, exotic tea and the classic acacia blossom nuances. The almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors are at once succulent yet chiseled while the practically pungent minerality adds a sense of lift to the hugely long finish that is youthfully austere and Zen-like in its harmony. This is quite simply majestic in its class and grace and is a wine that should age effortlessly for years.”
Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2021 750ml Was $1,799, Now $1,699, 2 bottles in stock now
Burghound 95-98 points “A trace of reduction isn’t sufficient to materially reduce the appeal of the honeysuckle, citrus confit and softly spiced aromas that are also trimmed in just enough wood to merit pointing out. The medium-bodied flavors aren’t necessarily finer than those of the Pucelles though they do possess more power and weight while retaining a beguilingly silky texture as well as excellent complexity on the strikingly long, balanced and Zen-like finale. This is a very serious and moderately austere BBM that is very clearly built to repay long-term keeping. In a word, superb.”
Domaine Leflaive Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2021 750ml Was $1,999, Now $1,699, 2 bottles in stock now
Burghound 95-98 points “Once again a subtle but not invisible application of wood frames cool and ripe aromas of green apple, acacia blossom, petrol and airy zest-tinged nuances. Interestingly, the middleweight flavors aren’t quite as dense as those of the Bienvenues-Bātard-Montrachet yet the intensity is even higher, indeed it’s almost painful, while flashing impressive power on the gorgeously complex, sneaky long and equally well-balanced finale. This is also stunning but patience required.”
