G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana
It’s rare to find benchmark wines that remain affordable, but not impossible. Rarer still if we’re talking about a wine-growing region considered one of the finest in the world for centuries. Well, if you’ve read the title of this newsletter, there’s no surprise which producer we have in mind: G.D. Vajra and the now-sister estate of Luigi Baudana.
Check the purchase record of any staff member, and you’ll know why we call G.D. Vajra one of our favorites. The estate is responsible for some of the finest Barolos we offer and also excels in entry-level options. The lineup as a whole is quite simply the best in Piedmont today. At all price points they are benchmark wines against which all others are judged.
The entry-level wines consist of often unique regional blends and varietal wines. There’s a wide selection to choose from, including red, white, and semi-sparkling. All the picks make for winning pizza- or pasta-night pairings. These are wines that are so utterly charming, you’ll want to buy them by the case.
As we climb the ladder, there are small-production wines from rare grapes (Freisa) and the cellar-defender Langhe Nebbiolos and village-level Barolos, including Vajra’s “Albe”. At the top end, we find single-vineyard Barolos. Under the G.D. Vajra label, the vineyards are Ravera, Bricco delle Viole, and Coste di Rose. Ravera is their most precious, a profound wine worthy of a long sleep in your cellar, which goes for triple digits from others addresses. The Bricco delle Viole is the highest vineyard in Barolo, named for the violets that blossom across its southern exposure. In its position above the thick fogs, it receives the most sunlight with the earliest sunrise and latest sunset, as well as a wildly dramatic diurnal temperature swing. The wines are lifted with refined tannins and minerality. Coste di Rose is home to a wide range of soil types. Per Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate, this results in unique aromatics and a darker fruit profile than the Bricco delle Viole.
If you’re not familiar with the Luigi Baundana estate, here’s a quick primer: In 2009, G.D. Vajra was entrusted by Luigi and Fiorina Baudana to carry on the legacy of their cherished garagiste operation upon their retirement. The estate’s holdings don’t exceed seven acres, making them one of the smallest wineries in all of Piedmont. As a result, these are wines made in highly limited qualities and offer a wholly unique interpretation of the varietal.
The technical skill of Vajra is on full display with these old vines, resulting in wines that live up to the heritage of the estate and a wholly different interpretation of Nebbiolo in terms of aromatic lift and fruit profile. Their two estate vineyards offer perfumed and fruit driven expressions of Nebbiolo against minerality with clear aging potential.
Across the line, reviewers praise the complexity and value offered by these two estates. We’re proud to offer multiple vintages of these excellent Barolos and a wide range of the varietal wines and region blends.

2017 G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana Wines In Stock Now:
“[In 2017, the] Vajra family produced a bevy of stellar wines from both their estates, G.D. Vajra in Barolo and Baudana in Serralunga. The 2017s are deep, fleshy and impeccably balanced.” -Antonio Galloni
To combat the heat in 2017, Aldo Vajra reported to Antonio Galloni that they “left a little more fruit on the vine in order to maintain freshness and delay harvest as much as possible.” Fermentation occurred in stainless steel and aging occurred in casks and small, neutral barrels.
G.D. Vajra Bricco delle Viole, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml $69 special, 25 bottles in stock now
Kerin O’Keefe-Wine Enthusiast 96 points “Aromas of underbrush, pine forest, woodland berries and cedar form the enticing nose. Full-bodied and savory, the structured palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and cinnamon before closing on pipe tobacco notes. Tightly knit but refined tannins provide the backbone, while surprisingly fresh acidity for the hot vintage keeps it balanced. Drink 2024–2032.”
Jeb Dunnuck 96 points “The 2017 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole is the darker fruited of the G.D. Vajra sites and has rounded floral aromatics of crushed roses, resin, and cranberry cocktail. The palate is ripe and inviting, with building structure and notes of fresh red cherry, blood orange, and clove. The warmth of the vintage is felt without sacrificing lift. Drink 2025-2050”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 points “The 2017 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is classy and elegant to the core. Medium in body and wonderfully translucent, the 2017 captures all of the finesse of this site. Naturally, the 2017 also shows the ripeness of the year, but it retains its sublime sense of poise. The 2017 Bricco delle Viole is one of the clear stand outs of the year.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “The G.D. Vajra 2017 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is packed with medium dark cherry fruit and plum. The wine also shows a savory side, with spice, hazelnut cream, licorice and lightly fragrant potting soil. This vintage sits solid on the palate, wrapping thickly over the senses, thanks to its creamy, fruit-driven consistency and well-managed tannins. These vines are high in elevation, ranging from 400 to 480 meters in altitude. Those higher elevations are key to interpreting a vintage that saw heat such as this. Production is 15,000 bottles.”
Luigi Baudana ‘Baudana’, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml $69 special, 5 bottles in stock now
Kerin O’Keefe-Wine Enthusiast 96 points “Balsamic aromas of camphor and cedar mingle with rose and leather on this full-boded, savory red. Structured and delicious, the juicy palate is still youthfully austere, delivering ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and licorice framed in noble tannins before a black tea finish. Drink 2025–2037.”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95+ points “The 2017 Barolo Baudana is such a gorgeous wine. It, too conveys the power of Serralunga, but with a bit less heft than is typically the case. Sweet dark cherry, iron, cedar, rose petal, mint and white pepper give the 2017 its effusive, inviting personality. This is such a tremendous showing.”
Jeb Dunnuck 95 points “The 2017 Barolo Baudana has more savory and forward notes of dried cranberry, leather, and orange peel on the nose, with tangy ripe fruit on the palate. It has a rather approachable style, with the generosity of the fruit up front and well-managed tannins. Drink 2021-2040.”
Luigi Baudana del Comune Di Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo DOCG 2017 750ml Was $59, Now $49 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 93 points “The 2017 Barolo Del Comune Di Serralunga d’Alba is resinous and assertive with aromas of tobacco, leather, dried cherry, and cedar. The palate is ripe with red plum, dried violet, and tar. The fruit dovetails to reveal its more powerful Serralunga structure, with building and firm tannins. Hold 2-4 years and drink 2023-2040.”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba may very well turn out to be one of the best wines of the year in its peer group. Dark and wonderfully expressive, yet also light on its feet for a Serralunga Barolo, the 2017 has so much going on. Black cherry, plum, spice, gravel, cured meats, lavender and sage all meld together in this dark yet translucent Barolo.”
2018 G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana Wines In Stock Now:
“Once again, I was blown away by the consistency of the range, starting from the simplest offerings in the lineup. The 2018 Barolos show the mid-weight, nervy side of the year, which emphasizes some of the classic austerity the wines can display in their youth. It will be interesting to see how the 2018s evolve in bottle.” -Antonio Galloni
G.D. Vajra Bricco delle Viole, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml $69 special, 13 bottles in stock now
#9 Top 100 Cellar Selections 2022 – Wine Enthusiast Kerin O’Keefe-Wine Enthusiast 95 points “Cellar Selection. Heady aromas of violet, camphor, leather and tobacco lead the way on this fragrant red. On the palate, tightly knit, fine-grained tannins accompany ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry and licorice. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2025–2035. -Kerin O’Keefe”
Wine Spectator 95 points “An elegant version, this red features rose, black currant, cherry, mineral and a hint of eucalyptus aromas and flavors. Linear in profile, this is solidly built on a graceful frame, with finely woven tannins and vibrant acidity. Best from 2026 through 2045. —B.S.”
G.D. Vajra Coste di Rose, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml Was $62.50, Now $57.50 special, 25 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 92 points “The 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose is a delicate, understated Barolo that will need a bit of time to fully emerge. There’s lovely purity to the fruit here, but also some angular contours that need to resolve. The 2018 is a mid-weight wine in the style of the vintage, and yet there is fine balance.”
James Suckling 92 points “Very clean red-berry fruit on the nose, together with citrus and cedar notes. Medium body with fine-grained tannins and a tight bead of fruit at the end. Sustainable. Best from 2024.”
G.D. Vajra Ravera, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml $79 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2018 Barolo Ravera is a powerful, tightly wound wine. Gravel, smoke, cured meats, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol emerge, but only with quite a bit of reticence. This deceptively mid-weight Barolo has a good bit of brawn. It will be interesting to see if the fruit emerges from behind the tannins.”
James Suckling 93 points “Rich, ripe mixed berries and perfumed bark on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with some lightly firm tannin giving support to the fruit. Lacks the complexity of recent vintages, but has a promising core. Give it a while to broaden out. Try from 2024.”
Luigi Baudana ‘Baudana’, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml Was $89, Now $69 special, 33 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 94 points “With fruit from Serralunga d’Alba, the 2018 Barolo Baudana is a very different wine when compared to the other single-vineyard expressions from this estate. This has to do with site and soil, and in the case of this celebrated subzone, the wines are always more powerful, more structured and mineral-driven. Dark fruit is followed by rusty notes of iron ore and crushed clay. This wine offers good substance both in terms of finish and texture. Cascina Adelaide does a great job with the Baudana”.
Wine Spectator 94 points “Rich, exuding cherry, raspberry, plum and floral notes, with iron, tobacco and tar accents lending complexity. Shows terrific balance and depth, with a tightly wound structure that bodes well for future development. Best from 2025 through 2043. —B.S.”
“G.D. Vajra earns top scores for its perfectly designed portfolio of Piedmont wines. Well balanced against various price points (and all very reasonable), the estate offers excellent high-end Barolos from single vineyards, the super accessible and charming Barolo Albe, and a whole range of lower-end wines that are all creative in terms of graphics and design and extremely innovative in terms of winemaking, blends and overall approach. The G.D. Vajra portfolio should be a model for all sorts of up-and-coming wineries.” -Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
Luigi Baudana Cerretta, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml Was $79, Now $69 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a potent, searing wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Scorching tannins wrap around a core of dark red/black fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice and game. The 2018 is going to need a number of years to come around and for those formidable tannins to soften.”
Luigi Baudana del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo DOCG 2018 750ml Was $59, Now $51.50 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 91 points “The Luigi Baudana 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is redolent of red fruit and sweet cherry that is especially prominent this vintage. The cherry is a dominate force. But earth, iron ore and blood orange also appear at the back, giving this wine a better sense of depth and nuance. The fruit used in this blend comes from Baudana, Cerretta and Costa Bella.”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 91 points “The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is redolent of savory and ferrous notes woven into a core of dried red cherry fruit. Spice, mint and tobacco develop later, adding pretty shades of nuance. Readers will find a super-classic Serralunga Barolo, but one that won’t need more than a few years to be at its best.”
2019 G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana Wines In Stock Now:
“The 2019 Barolos at Vajra are seriously impressive. These wines need a ton of air to show all they have to offer, something readers who want to taste them at this stage should bear in mind. The classicism of these wines is quite appealing for the future.” -Antonio Galloni
G.D. Vajra Albe, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $33.50 special, 28 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 94 points “This is certainly one of the most popular and versatile wines made in Italy, and deservedly so. The well-priced G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Albe shows some ripe fruit and softness with cherry, dried raspberry and crushed rose. This vintage is similar in character to the 2016 release in that both vintages offer a linear style with good structure at the back. The mouthfeel is polished and long, affording accessibility and complexity too.”
G.D. Vajra Bricco delle Viole, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 5 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 97+ points “The last wine poured at my tasting at the winery is the G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Bricco delle Viole. With its high vantage point in the hills west of Barolo, Bricco delle Viole is a world apart in terms of soils (with Sant’Agata marl and fossils) and even harvest times. Slow and careful ripening like the kind that characterizes fruit in 2019 renders a very delicate and ethereal expression with floral tones, wild mint and licorice. This organic wine is solid in build and structure. Indeed, Isidoro Vaira remarks that Nebbiolo tannins have changed since the 1970s and 1980s. Because of climate change and stylistic preference, they are more polished and accessible today.”
Wine Spectator 96 points “A juicy Barolo, with vibrant acidity and a fluid profile that exudes cherry, raspberry, mown hay, mineral andeucalyptus aromas and flavors. Tight yet long, with excellent potential.”
G.D. Vajra Coste di Rose, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $69 special, 15 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “Compared to Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Rose is distinguished by sandstone soils at lower elevations of 340 to 350 meters above sea level. There is a lot of variability in the soils, and as they change, Nebbiolo behaves differently, picking up new aromas and textural qualities along the way. The G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Coste di Rose shows a darker core of fruit with dusty earthy tones and campfire ash. The grape skins were quite thick in 2019, meaning that less work was done with submerged cap and other extractive methods. The beauty of this wine is the mouthfeel, which feels rich, tight and silky. Coste di Rose was first made in 2015.”
G.D. Vajra Ravera, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 14 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 97 points “The organic G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Ravera (with fruit from the most sought-after cru in the village of Novello) reveals gorgeous tonality and color. The wine shines bright with dark ruby and garnet gemstone. Healthy Nebbiolo colors like this can be admired across the 2019 vintage. Ravera represents a union of different geologies from Barolo and Castiglione Falletto. The site has shown extraordinary versatility, especially in the face of climate change, to make wines of both strength and elegance. It is softly textured but also strong in fiber, with silky sensations followed by dark fruit and concentration. Ravera has a character all its own, and the operative word here is power.”
Luigi Baudana ‘Baudana’, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 24 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 96 points “The 2019 Barolo Baudana is absolutely captivating. Effusive and bright in the glass, with tons of freshness and remarkable fruit purity, the Baudana offers up generous dark red fruit, spice, leather, kirsch, hard candy, cedar, tobacco and underbrush. There’s terrific depth here and exceptional balance, too. Rose petal, white pepper and chalk lift the high-toned, intensely saline finish.” Monica Larner-
Wine Advocate 94 points “The 2019 Barolo Baudana offers good power and ripeness with sweet fruit flavors, dark cherry, spice and ferrous earth. These aromas are characteristic of this site in Serralunga d’Alba. The wine is silky and generous on the palate, with salty minerality on the close. On a scale of growing intensity, Baudana generally comes after the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba and before the Barolo Cerretta in this portfolio of three wines.”
Luigi Baudana Cerretta, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 23 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 97 points “The 2019 Barolo Cerretta is packed with dark cherry, smoke, gravel, blood orange incense, scorched earth, licorice and mocha. This ample, full-bodied Barolo offers tremendous depth and textural intensity. Powerful and brooding, with tons of muscle and tannin, the Cerretta is incredibly promising. It is the most potent wine in this portfolio, by a pretty substantial range.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “The Luigi Baudana 2019 Barolo Cerretta is an open-knit and powerful expression of Nebbiolo from one of the best sites in Serralunga d’Alba. Cerretta is a large MGA vineyard to the north of the village, with Baudana on the hillside to the west and Prapò to the south. This wine offers volume and richness in terms of mouthfeel, with fleeting aromas of wild berry, iris and crushed rose.”
Luigi Baudana Del Comune Di Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo DOCG 2019 750ml $59 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “This wine is a blend of fruit from Baudana, Cerretta and Costabella. The Luigi Baudana 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba shows the firmness and structure that this village is known for with pretty perfumes of rose, rusty nail, autumnal leaf, licorice and tar. Costabella is an early-ripening site, and fruit is sourced from the youngest vines in Cerretta and Baudana (leaving a selection from the older vines for the single-vineyard wines).”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba shows all the breadth of Serralunga, but in the somewhat austere style that runs through all the wines this year. Dark red fruit, sage, mint, leather and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. Rich and ample, yet super-classic,the Serralunga Barolo hits all the right notes. It may very well be the hidden gem in the entire Vajra range.”
Varietal / Regional Wines:
“The most interesting portfolio of wines from Piedmont, in my onion, is the one thoughtfully put together by G.D. Vajra. Given the variety of flavors and the many local grapes used, my annual tasting at this estate is always one of my favorites.” -Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
G.D. Vajra Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Piedmont 2022 750ml $16 special, 17 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 89 points “The G.D. Vajra 2022 Moscato d’Asti was born in a warm vintage and shows fragrant aromas of white peach, tropical fruit, candied lemon and a hint of sage or dried jasmine blossom. This informal dessert wine delivers soft foam and more sweet flavors over a creamy finish.”
Luigi Baudana “Dragon” Langhe Bianco, Piedmont 2022 750ml $19 special, 15 bottles in stock now
Winery note “Dragon is a unique white blend from the Langhe. Originally produced by Luigi Baudana during the 1980s with Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc, it has evolved to embrace Nascetta, the most exciting white heirloom varietal of the Langhe, and a tiny amount of Riesling. The original vineyard was located in Cerretta Piani in Serralunga d’Alba. The Nascetta was instead planted in Comune di Novello, the very place of origin of this grape, at the top of the Ravera hill. Dragon opens to fresh fruit aromas such as kiwi, lime and pear. Hints of minerality like flint and sea stones complete the elegant bouquet. The palate is citrusy whit flavors of orchard fruit, macerated elder flower and candied orange peel that shine through the fresh and vibrant acidity.”
G.D. Vajra Barbera d’Alba, Piedmont 2022 750ml $19.50 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 90 points “The G.D. Vajra 2022 Barbera d’Alba is a nicely concentrated effort with dark cherry fruit, blackberry and cinnamon-like sensations from the grape skins. With that extra density comes extra fruit weight and a powerful 15% alcohol content. The wine does carry muscle for sure, but the results are firm and tight.”
G.D. Vajra Barbera d’Alba Superiore Viola delle Viole, Piedmont 2021 750ml $31.50 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93+ points “Just bottled, the 2021 Barbera d’Alba Superiore is fabulous. Rich and inky, with tremendous depth, the 2021 is so vibrant in the glass. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, sweet spice and mocha are all dialed up, with a kiss of French oak that adds raciness.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “I’m told that this is probably the last vintage in which the 2021 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Viola delle Viole will carry the name Viola delle Viole. In yet another unfortunate nod to climate change, Barbera vines suffer from the floral disease Flavescence dorée that causes the plants to shut down and the fruit to remain unripened. Barbera, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the most hard-hit by the sickness. Freisa and Nebbiolo are resistant, and those varieties are planted around the rims of vineyards today as a protective barrier. As a result, Barbera vines in Bricco delle Viole (one of two sites present in this blend, the other being Bricco Bertone outside the Barolo area) were taken out. Barbera tends to produce wines with high alcohol, but the Vajra team prefers to reach optimal fruit maturity and is less concerned about alcohol. The grape always has high acidity, but that is “a problem that is going away on its own,” says Isidoro Vaira. Bricco delle Viole gives the wine its floral aromas and Bricco Bertone adds a sweet almond-like flavor. There is a seven- to eight-day harvest difference between the two sites. This wine ages in large oak casks for 16 months.”
G.D. Vajra Clarè J.C. Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont 2022 750ml $21.90 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “A profoundly complex blend of crushed blackberries, violets, spice orange peels and sage make the 2022 Nebbiolo Clarè J.C. a total knockout on the nose. Silky and enveloping with a pretty inner sweetness up front, this impresses further as a wave of wild berry fruit and exotic spice slowly saturates the palate. The 2022 finishes lightly structured yet full of mouth-watering tension. Licorice and purple-toned inner florals gradually fade. Its deep red color and tremendous depth make it hard to classify the Clarè J.C. as a Rosé. That said, its drinkability factor is off the charts.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “This is one of my favorite go-to wines for informal nights with family and friends. The G.D. Vajra 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Claré J.C. opens to a lean appearance with bright ruby highlights. It remains true to the grape, in simple or almost transparent terms, with fresh berry fruit, cassis, blue flower and iris. I love the punchy, electric quality of this wine and its streamlined approach. You’ll love it too (and love the low shelf price).”
G.D. Vajra Dolcetto d’Alba, Piedmont 2021 750ml $18 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 90 points “Made only in stainless steel, the 2021 Dolcetto d’Alba shows a purplish color with inky concentration. The bouquet is simple and direct with loads of sweet candied cherry, crème de cassis and bitter almond. This is another terrific take on one of Piedmont’s most versatile grapes.”
G.D. Vajra Dolcetto d’Alba Coste & Fossati, Piedmont 2022 750ml $21.50 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 92 points “This wine is all about fun and good cheer. “Every day that you drink Dolcetto is a good day,” says Isidoro Vaira. The organic 2022 Dolcetto d’Alba Coste & Fossati reveals rich, dark fruit with a pronounced sweet side. There is soft cherry, blackberry and crème de cassis. The wine is quite plump and juicy in character, setting it up for pairing with wood-oven pizza.”
G.D. Vajra Freisa “Kye”, Piedmont 2021 750ml $36 special, 18 bottles in stock now
No reviews for the 2021 vintage. Recent review provided for reference.
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “This wine has developed its own cult following over the years. Named after a local dialectal expression for “who is it,” the 2017 Langhe Freisa Kyè is super intense in this hot vintage. The wine draws upon those vintage conditions to present an extra dark appearance, with aromas of Morello cherry, dried blackberry and spice. I always get a subtle note of black pepper with the popular Freisa grape. The mouthfeel is rich, and you can really sink your teeth into this cheerful and unusual red from Piedmont. 6,000 bottles are hitting the market now.”
G.D. Vajra Barbera-Freisa Langhe Rosso, Piedmont 2021 750ml $21.90 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 92 points “In the bottle with the light blue label, this is a blend of 70% Barbera and 30% Freisa. This is another terrific value wine from G.D. Vajra. The 2021 Piemonte Barbera Freisa reveals floral tones, crushed rose, wild fruit, spice and white pepper. This is the kind of super popular wine that sells out before I can write my review. The low sticker price makes this an irresistible deal.”
G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont 2022 750ml $21.90 special, 36 bottles in stock now
“This wine is our quest for the innocence of Nebbiolo, its purest expression.” – Giuseppe Vaira
Sourced from young estate vines surrounding the winery.
G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso, Piedmont 2022 750ml $15.90 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Check the purchase record of any staff member, and you’ll know why we call G.D.

To combat the heat in 2017, Aldo Vajra reported to Antonio Galloni that they “left a little more fruit on the vine in order to maintain freshness and delay harvest as much as possible.” Fermentation occurred in stainless steel and aging occurred in casks and small, neutral barrels.
