Domaine Rostaing

René Rostaing founded his estate in the 1970s, working with family parcels in the Côte Blonde and La Landonne regions of the Northern Rhone appellation of the Côte Rôtie. The estate has since expanded, now including the Côte Bonnette parcel in Condrieu, old vines in Lézardes (just outside Côte Rôtie and bottled under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes), as well as an estate in the Coteaux du Languedoc, where the estate’s Puech Noble wines originate.

For fans of the Northern Rhone, these are iconic, classic wines like no other. Eschewing 100% new oak and other modern stylings, the estate is not afraid of using modern technology as long as it aids in performing traditional practices, such as using rotary fermenters for the traditional long and gentle macerations.

Since 2015, René’s son Pierre has managed the estate, guided by tradition and aided by his retired father. The wines undergo seven- to twenty-day-long macerations with the stems, which Pierre believes adds to “Côte Rôtie’s ineffable perfume.” The results are some of the most sought-after wines in the entire Rhone.

We have a wide selection of new releases and professionally-cellared back-vintages in stock. To best share this collection with you, we’ve added these to our three-day sale, starting now.

“These are wines of intense perfume, and the combination of delicacy and power that comes from no other Syrah” -Importer, Rare Wine Company

“Now under the watch of René Rostaing’s son, Pierre, the quality of the wines here has not missed a beat. Pierre Rostaing shares the same fastidious character, curiosity, wry wit and occasional philosophic traits of his father.” – Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Jeb Dunnuck 91-93 points
“Tasted from multiple barrels, the 2022 Côte Rôtie Ampodium will easily be an outstanding wine. All of the barrels had saturated purple hues, terrific purity, lots of both red and blue fruits, integrated oak, and ripe, polished tannins. It’s going to be a smoking good base cuvée from this talented family.”

Domaine Rostaing Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde, Rhone 2011 750ml Displayed Price: $189, that’s $179.55 at 5% off and $170.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck-Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2011 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde saw 100% stems and a small percentage of Viognier. While I liked it a tad more last year, it showed beautifully here as well, with a perfumed, forward and medium to full-bodied profile to go with classic olive, garrigue and raspberry aromas and flavors. This is Côte Rôtie at its most refined and elegant, and it should be even better in another 2-3 years and evolve nicely through 2031.”

Domaine Rostaing Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde, Rhone 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $199, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
Nicolas Greinacher-Vinous 94-97 points
“The 2022 Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune, fermented with 100% whole-clusters, is shaping up to be a dazzling effort from the talented Pierre Rostaing. Potent raspberry, cranberry, cedar and black cherry aromas are front and center. Orange blossom and crushed violets add a fragrant floral lift alongside leafy nuances. Built around a massive tannic core, the 2022 possesses stunning energy and ample concentration. Readers should note that although a tiny quantity of the 2021 was bottled, Rostaing most likely won’t commercialize it. (Drink between 2032-2042).”

Domaine Rostaing Côte Rôtie La Landonne, Rhone 2010 750ml Displayed Price: $259, that’s $246.05 at 5% off and $233.10 at 10% off, 3 bottles in stock now
Robert Parker-Wine Advocate 96 points
“The prodigious 2010 Côte Rôtie La Landonne reveals a dense purple color along with a huge, impressive perfume of roasted meats, black currants, black raspberries and scorched earth. This 100% Syrah comes from vines planted on exceptionally steep slopes composed of schist and iron-like sub-soils. Some graphite also makes an appearance in this mineral-dominated, well-delineated, rich, intense wine.”

“The 2022 Côte Rôtie La Landonne ratchets everything up a notch, offing a darker, meaty style in its smoked black fruits, raw steak, ground pepper, and graphite notes. It’s medium to full-bodied and has ripe, polished tannins and terrific overall balance.”

Vinopolis Close-Out Sale Featurette:

Heymann-Lowenstein

Heymann-Loewenstein is the signature producer of Germany’s Lower Mosel region, where the steepness of the slope requires terraces just to be able to grow grapes. It’s a daunting place to work—everything is so steep that no mechanized work is possible and so every single vine must be tended by hand.

Reinhard Loewenstein is a perfectionist who will do anything and everything to make his wines as profound as possible. His yields and selection in the vineyards are made solely with quality in mind, and he holds his wines back longer before release than most German producers—cash flow be damned!

In terms of style, the word that comes to mind when tasting these wines is ‘mineral’. Not minerality paired with fruitiness, like with many Mosel Rieslings, but sheer rockiness in liquid form. The wines are lean, racy and benefit from air or a few years in bottle. If allowed to open up they are incredibly rewarding in the way that only the great wines of the world can be.
