Ab-fab new reviews from Antonio Galloni – published today!
Bertrand Gautherot founded Vouette e Sorbee in the mid-1980s from his family’s three vineyards, Vouette, Sorbee and Biaunes. An early adopter of Biodynamic practices in Champagne, he became certified in 1998. Vouette and Biaunes provide the Kimmeridigian soils and the Sorbee the Portlandian soils. From these tiny terroirs come distinctively delicious Champagnes.Fidele is a Blanc de Noirs from the Vouette and Biaunes vineyards. It includes 5% reserve wine and the remainder is from the base vintage (this year it is the exceptional 2012). The wine is rich and expanisve, showcasing the true Aube character.
Blanc d’Argile is a 100% Chardonnay from the Biaunes vineyard. Rich, lush, exotic notes predominate with a core of acidity and backbone.
Antonio Galloni 94 points “Vouette & Sorbée NV (2012) Extra-Brut Blanc d’Argile is superb. Deep, rich and powerful, the 2012 shows just how compelling Champagnes can be. A Champagne of baritone depth and intensity, the 2012 flows effortlessly throughout the mid-palate as the flavors and textures crescendo on the expressive finish. Readers who enjoy rich, vinous Champagnes will adore the 2012.”

Antonio Galloni 95 points “The NV (2012) Extra Brut Fidele is another fabulous wine from Vouette & Sorbée. Here, the richness of Pinot Noir comes through loud and clear in the wine’s depth and overall richness. Creamy and beautifully layered throughout, the 2012 hits all the right notes. Red berry, mint, flowers, sweet spices and candy fill out the wine’s broad frame effortlessly. What a gorgeous wine this is. Simply put, the 2012 is a total knock-out.“
to the 2011 Cuvee Fidele and Blanc d’Argile:
Winery note “[Translated] Our desire as a domaine is to remain discreet stylistically while genuinely showcasing the character of each vintage. Cuvee Fidele does so by definition. This wine shows all of the vinous flavors of Pinot Noir with expressions of limestone (a sign of the pure Kimmeridgian soil) and persistent aromas due to vinification completely in wood.”
This is the lowest factually available listed price in the USA today!
Vinopolnote: Antonio Galloni has dubbed the Blanc d’Argile “Chablis-like in its purity”, with “a focused expression of smoke, flint, minerals and citrus.” A long-time favorite.
