Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 2012 750ML ($319.95) Was $219, Now $199; 22 bottles available
Wine Spectator 97 points “A stunner from the start, with distinct depth to the creamed mango, white peach and heather flavors, this maintains superior precision and definition as the singed almond, chamomile, salted butter and ginger notes fill in. Glazed pear, elderflower honey and beeswax details chime in on the extremely long finish. Enjoyable now, but needs serious cellaring to show its full potential. Best from 2016 through 2037. 500 cases made.” JM
Wine Advocate 96 points “Much more open, fleshy and sexy, the 2012 Hermitage Blanc was just bottled a month prior to this tasting. Coming from l’Ermite, Les Rocoules, Maison Blanche and Peleat lieux-dits, it’s always a rough blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne that’s aged in barrel. Loaded with notions of honeysuckle, orange marmalade, powered rock, buttered citrus and green almond, it’s full-bodied, rich, upfront and fruit loaded. While I think it will be a relatively accessible early in its life, it has the concentration to hold for two decades.” WA
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 94-96 points “Tasted in single-site components from tanks as the wine awaited blending: #1, from Peleat: Ripe pear and honey aromas, with a suave floral accent and a hint of smoky minerals. At once rich and lively, showing excellent back-end power. #2, from Rocoules: Intense, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit aromas, with a sexy floral nuance building with air. Bright, focused and mineral-driven, with a strong Meyer lemon quality lingering on the tangy finish. #3, also from Rocoules: Showing more emphasis on orchard fruit than the first Rocoules tank, with powerful quince and pear flavors and a touch of bitter quinine. Dusty minerals sharpen the long, sappy finish. #4, from l’Ermite: Spicy citrus zest and ginger scents along with a chalky mineral note and a hint of anise. Smoky and penetrating, with superb finishing clarity and lingering spiciness. #5, also from l’Ermite: More floral and masculine than the previous l’Ermite, with strong jasmine and orchard fruit character and a touch of bitter quinine. Bright and nervy on the finish, which doesn’t want to let up.” JR

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 2011 750ML ($549.95) Was $449, Now $419; 2 magnums available
Wine Spectator 97 points “Still a bit reserved aromatically, with hints of orange blossom and crème anglaise peeking out, this features a captivating display of racy quinine, honeysuckle and white peach flavors inlaid into a rich core of brioche, Cavaillon melon, white truffle, smoked almond and heather honey. Incredibly long. Hard to resist now, but ideal for when your toddler graduates college. Best from 2019 through 2030.” WS
Wine Advocate 96 points “Just bottled, the 2011 Hermitage Blanc also shows the richer side of Hermitage with its full-bodied, voluptuously textured and up-front profile. Honeysuckle, licorice, toast, citrus oil and liquid mineral-like qualities all emerge from this beauty, and it stays beautifully fresh and focused on the palate. A blend of mostly Marsanne, yet with roughly 20% Roussanne, from the l’Ermite, Les Rocoules, Maison Blanche and Peleat lieux-dits, this substantial white should be consumed over the coming 2-4 years, or forgotten for a decade or more. It will have over two decades of longevity.” WA

St. Innocent Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($49.95) $36 SUPER special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “Bright ruby. Sexy, smoke-tinged aromas of red and dark berry preserves, candied flowers and mocha, with a hint of sandalwood in the background. Sappy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated blackberry, cherry-cola and rose pastille flavors that tighten up on the back half. This suave, seamless wine finishes with excellent clarity and length, its silky tannins building slowly.”

Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2006 750ML ($349.95) $319 special, 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 99 points “All of Christophe’s 2006 were stunners, and the 2006 Syrah Bionic Frog excels for its massive core of fruit, smoked herbs, chocolate, licorice and meaty aromatics. Brooding, backward, meaty and a little bloody, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness and big structure, yet always stays balanced, pure and layered. It’s a joy to drink today, but will cruise for another 10-15 years. (6/2015)”
Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2007 750ML ($349.95) $299 special, 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 99 points “The 2007 Bionic Frog Syrah surrenders a splendid aromatic array of forest floor, herbs, olives, bacon, underbrush, blueberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a voluptuous wine with gobs of succulent fruit, impeccable balance, enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for 5-7 years, and a lengthy, seductive finish. Give it 5-7 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2015 to 2027.”
Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2008 750ML ($319.95) $249 special, 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 97 points “I thought the 2008 Syrah Bionic Frog was insanely good. Checking in at 14.4% natural alcohol (the 2009 was 14.7 and the 2010 14.8), it has soaring notes of cassis, black raspberries, violets, white flowers, mint and olives to go with a full-bodied, ultra-pure, silky, yet concentrated and layered feel on the palate. One of the more elegant, silky and finesse driven examples of this cuvee, it has heavenly aromatics and will have upward of two decades of longevity.”
Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2010 750ML ($359.95) $319 special, 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 100 points “This insanely good 2010 Syrah Bionic Frog offers incredible notes of blood orange, liquid violets, cassis, seared meats, licorice and crushed rocks to go with full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannic structure, perfectly integrated acidity and a blockbuster finish. Raised in roughly 20% new demi-muids and foudre, this is a heavenly Syrah that couldn’t get any better. Give it 2-4 years in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2030.”

Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2013 750ML ($249.95) $219 special, 3 bottles available
Wine Advocate 97-99 points “I think the best of the Syrahs is the 2013 Syrah Bionic Frog, and while I’ve liked other single vineyards more than this cuvee in the past, it seems a solid step up in both 2012 and 2013. The 2013 offers incredible notes of roasted herbs, beef blood, mushrooms, scorched earth and sweet black fruits in a full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated, structured, serious style. Short-term cellaring should be the name of the game here, and while it should offer plenty of pleasure around age 5-6, I’d put money on it still singing at age 20.” JD
Cayuse Vineyards Cailloux Vineyard Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2013 750ML ($149.95) $119 special, 3 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94-97 points “Starting off the 2013 Syrahs from barrel, the 755-case 2013 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard was cofermented with 5% Viognier and is aged in twice-used French oak. It offers a ripe, voluptuous style in its ground pepper, smoked meats, peat and sweet dark fruits. These give way to a full-bodied Syrah that has solid concentration and good tannin. The Viognier here normally gives this cuvee some early charm, but it should evolve gracefully as well.” JD
No Girls La Placiencia Vineyard Syrah, Walla Walla Valley 2011 750ML ($149.95) $119 special, 3 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95 points “In the same mold, with the buzzwords being finesse and elegance, the 2011 Syrah La Paciencia Vineyard offers textbook pepper, olive tapenade, smoke and crunchy berry fruits in its medium to full-bodied, seamless and beautifully textured profile. Showing impressive complexity and already hard to resist, I-d lean towards drinking bottles over the coming decade as well.”
CALIFORNIA
Araujo Estate Altagracia Red, Napa Valley 2012 750ML ($149.95) $119 special
James Suckling 93 points “This is a savory and balanced second wine with plum, berry and spices such as cloves and pepper. Full-bodied and velvety with bright acidity underneath and a flavorful finish. They say they used a little press wine in this and it gives it a lift. Lots of currants too. Traditional. 71% cabernet sauvignon, 8% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, 4% malbec, and 11% petit verdot. Drink or hold.”
Robert Parker 91 points “The 2012 Proprietary Red Altagracia is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Malbec. A beautiful nose of red and black cherries, blackcurrants, spice box and earth jumps from the glass of this expressive, fragrant, medium-bodied wine that has velvety tannins, a burgeoning complexity and a savory, lush mouthfeel. This is a strong second wine from this famous vineyard. It can be drunk now or cellared for up to 15 or more years. It’s pure seductiveness.” RP
Round Pond Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 2012 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Dark red and black fruit, smoke, licorice, new leather and cedar blossom in the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (formerly Bovet). A dark, sumptuous beauty, the 2012 is built on pure texture, resonance and volume. The addition of 8% Petit Verdot adds an attractive dimension of gravitas. This is another striking wine from Round Pond.”
Round Pond Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Case-12 Round Pond Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 2013 750ML ($649.95) $536 special
Robert Parker 92 points “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec, is a beauty. It’s also realistically priced by Napa standards. The wine reveals toasty oak, blackberry and cassis fruit, beautiful texture, purity and length. This is a big-time winner and should drink well for 12-15 years.”
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Round Pond’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is fabulous. Aromatic, pliant and expressive, the 2013 is incredibly nuanced for such a young wine. Sweet red plum, wild flowers, mint and cinnamon meld together in a medium-bodied, gracious Cabernet that will drink well with minimal cellaring.”

Case-12 Domaine Servin Vaillons, Chablis Premier Cru 2014 750ML ($419.95) $299 SUPER special
Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons comes from the vineyard that Marc Cameron believes has improved the most in recent years. It has a fragrant bouquet with touches of yellow flowers and cold flint, opening up with hints of orange blossom with aeration. The palate is well balanced with an almost shrill opening that needs to calm down by the time of bottling, though there is good weight and fruit intensity to soak that up. Good potential here, though it needs to tame that initial feisty side of its personality.”

Paul Jaboulet Aine Hermitage La Petite Chapelle 2010 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 93 points “Opaque ruby. Heady aromas of black and blue fruits, Indian spices and candied flowers. Stains the palate with intense cassis and blueberry flavors, picking suave floral and spice nuances with air. Shows excellent clarity and energy on the finish, which features smoothly integrated tannins and a seductive floral quality.”
Robert Parker 92 points “The 2010 Hermitage La Petite Chapelle is a better wine than nearly every Hermitage La Chapelle made under the final years of the Jaboulet family’s ownership (for example, 1993-2005). The 2010 was aged in barrel and represents one-third of the Hermitage crop (another one-third was eliminated and the final one-third went into La Chapelle). Its deep purple color is followed by notes of camphor, tar, pepper, beef blood, black currant jam and hints of new saddle leather as well as earth. This supple, rich, full, authoritative beauty should drink well for 15-20 years.”
Domaine Eric et Joel Durand Cornas Premices 2012 750ML ($37.95) $28 special
Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2012 Cornas Premices knocks it out of the park with its chocolaty dark fruits, leather, crushed rock and licorice aromas and flavors. Dense, full-bodied and concentrated, with a hedonistic, voluptuous slant, drink it over the coming 6-7 years.”

Domaine Berthet-Rayne Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2013 750ML ($29.95) $26 special
Wine Advocate–“Excelling in the vintage and a charming, straightforward effort that doesn’t try too hard (and is better for it), the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Tradition gives up lots of currants, black raspberries, Provençal garrigue and spice to go with a medium-bodied, supple, easy drinking style on the palate. It has lots to like and will drink nicely for 5-6 years.”

Case-12 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 750ML ($419.95) $359 special
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a terrific wine for the year. Sweet red cherry, plum, tobacco, mint, sweet spices and orange peel are all front and center. This is a gorgeous 2011 Brunello that represents everything the vintage can be; open-knit, accessible and polished. I don’t expect the 2011 will be a long-term ager, but it is exceptionally beautiful and delicious today.”
James Suckling 93 points “A ripe, juicy wine with blueberry, chocolate, walnut and cherry character. Round and savory. Silky tannins. Very close quality to the fabulous 2010. Delicious now.”

Antonio Galloni 94 points “Pomegranate, wild cherries, flowers, mint, leather and sweet spices abound in the 2011 Granato. Sexy and radiant to the core, the Granato is especially seamless in this vintage, with voluptuous fruit, silky tannins and exceptional overall balance. I imagine the 2011 will provide consumers with a wide window of drinking pleasure. Today, the fruit is naturally quite primary, so readers who prefer more shades of nuance will want to cellar the 2011 for at least a few years.”AG

Gulfi Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2014 750ML ($21.95) $17 special
Ian D’agata–Vinous 91 points “Purple-ruby. Very deep, dark aromas and flavors of black cherry, violet and licorice. Bright, precise and multilayered, with vibrant, harmonious acidity and silky tannins neatly extending the violet quality on the crip, long finish. A lovely Cerasuolo di Vittoria.”
Gulfi Nerojbleo Nero d’Avola Sicilia IGT 2010 750ML ($21.95) $17 special
Wine Advocate 90+ points “The 2010 Nerojbleo is an IGT expression of Nero d’Avola made with organically farmed fruit from the province of Ragusa in eastern Sicily. The wine shows some evolution at this stage but this only adds to the overall complexity. At the core are bright notes of cherry and cassis, but these primary aromas are followed by bitter almond, tar and leather. The mouthfeel is complete and balanced.”
Gulfi Neromaccarj Sicilia IGT 2005 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Gulfi’s 2005 Neromàccarj is a dark, brooding wine that shows the darker side of Nero d’Avola in its wild cherries, plums, scorched earth, melted road tar, minerals and smoke. Despite the wine’s imposing structure, there is plenty of clarity and definition. This dramataic, large-scaled wine should continue to offer superb drinking over the next few years.” AG

Gulfi Nerosanlore Sicilia IGT 2009 750ML ($49.95) $41.90 special
Wine Advocate 93 points “Sweet aromas of toasted oak and baking spice emerge from the bouquet of the 2009 Nerosanlorè. This is a very elaborate red wine that shows the craft and the labor of the winemaker. The bouquet is thickly layered with aromas of ripe fruit, blackberry compote, tobacco and loads of spice derived from long oak aging. In addition, the wine offers ample tertiary aromas of licorice, resin and tar. This is a very attractive red that offers the full force and sunshine of Sicily in your glass. There is power and determination here with 14.5% alcohol.”

Gulfi Reseca Rosso Sicilia IGT 2005 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Stephen Tanzer – Good full red. Aromas of sweet raspberry syrup, tar and minerals are lifted by a gentle floral note. Fruity and easygoing, with red berry, licorice and herbal flavors dominating. Finishes with supple tannins and moderate persistence, but lacks the fruit intensity and weight of the 2006.

Gulfi Reseca Rosso Sicilia IGT 2006 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Antonio Galloni 92 points “The 2006 Reseca is Nerello Mascalese from vineyards on Mount Etna. It is one of the darker, more overtly fruit driven wines I have tasted from the Etna. The finish turns a bit more delicate and ethereal, though. It will be interesting to see the direction Gulfi takes with this bottling in coming years.”

Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2013 Lost Soul Syrah should be as good as the ’12, if not better. Inky purple in color, it exhibits lots of cooler-climate notes of pepper, bouquet garni, crushed rock and pure blackberry fruit. Aged in 40% new French oak puncheons and all from the Red Willow Vineyard in the Yakima Valley, it’s rich, medium to full-bodied, and perfectly balanced, with lively acidity and no shortage of texture or depth. It should benefit from short-term cellaring and age gracefully.”

Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova
Arriving Friday
Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 750ML ($219.95) $189 pre-arrival special, only 12 bottles remain unsold
Wine Advocate 100 points “The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a protagonist of the vintage. The fruit is deep and dark with rich levels of extract, intensity and flavor. It goes far beyond your standard cherry and blackberry to include plum cake, spice bread and bacon-wrapped prune. Nothing is obvious or monochromatic about this wine. Everything is nuanced and ethereal. Tenuta Nuova is also distinguished by the linear mineral notes that are characteristic of this single-vineyard site. In 2010, those traits are especially well-defined and pronounced. The tannins reach a level of suppleness that is almost impossible to find in the sometimes prickly and acidic Sangiovese grape. If there is one thing Giacomo Neri has mastered, it is harvesting at optimal ripeness: He knows his property and his vines better than most and it shows. Collectors will want to put this wine aside ten years or longer.” WA

Sottimano Cotta, Barbaresco DOCG 2009 750ML ($59.95) Was $49, Now $39, 16 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points “Playing very much true to type, the 2009 Barbaresco Cotta is the richest and roundest of these 2009s. As always, it has the most overt fruit to match its generally supple personality. Here, too the richness of the fruit goes head to head with the formidable tannins all the way through to the finish. This dark, fleshy Barbaresco should enter its sweet spot in another five years or so. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.”WA

I very much like the sense of energy here. Firm yet well-balanced tannins frame the long finish. The balance of fruit, acidity and structure is about as harmonious as it gets in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.” WA

Sottimano Fausoni, Barbaresco DOCG 2009 750ML ($64.95) Was $59, Now $49, 29 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer & Wine Advocate 93 points “(from a high-altitude, limestone-rich vineyard in Treiso): Good bright red. Sexy, elegant nose offers strawberry, raspberry, tobacco and spices. Juicy and primary for the vintage, with excellent mineral and spicy cut giving precision to the middle palate. Very Treiso in character, and the highest in acidity of these 2009 Barbarescos (6 grams, vs. 5.5 for the others). Finishes energetic and long, with chewy, firm tannins and terrific lift. This really transcends the vintage. “But not the best style of wine for a blind tasting,” notes Sottimano.” ST

Stains the palate with sweet red and dark berry flavors complicated by notes of candied lavender and coconut. Smoothly melds power and vivacity, finishing on a gently tannic note, with very good persistence and lingering floral character.”

Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie Clos des Briords, Loire 2014 750ML ($21.95) $18 special
Vinopolnote: From some of Marc Olivier’s oldest vines, planted in 1930, comes this lovely stunner of a Muscadet. “Clos des Briord”comes from a single plot of vines planted in schist soils; a very mineral-rich and surprising example of Melon which is built to age beautifully but also provides freshness and fun when drunk in youth.
Analemma Atavus Vineyard Blanc de Noir, Columbia Gorge 2011 750ML ($54.95) $49 special
Winery note “Of citrine color and brilliant clarity to the eye, this vintage offers aromas of fresh pear, green apples and underripe strawberries. This wine is precise with vibrant acidity and hints of autolytic character, showing long aging potential. An expression of a single variety, single vineyard and single vintage, our Blanc honors the individuality of a historic site. Alcohol 12.7%. Proudly featuring Columbia Gorge AVA fruit. Organically grown by our team from nearly 50 year old vines.
R.H. Coutier Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut, Champagne NV 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Coutier’s NV Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, 100% Chardonnay from Ambonnay, remains one of the most compelling, under the radar wines in Champagne, not to mention a fabulous value. Round, textured and supple in the glass, the Blanc de Blancs shows the more textured, side of Chardonnay. These soils in Ambonnay confer an unusual level of richness and breadth. In my view, this is Coutier’s best Champagne. Disgorged May 2014. Dosage is 6 grams per liter.” AG

Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Millesime, Champagne 2006 750ML ($299.95) $219 special
James Suckling 97 points “Deep pinot-driven presence is the first and lasting impression. Power with control. Superfine bead, bread and spiced biscuits, candied ripe red fruits and a sense of tight-knit complexity. Some grapefruit, lemon pith & gently flinty notes too – impressive nose. In the mouth it is rich, powerful, mouth-filling and flavoursome with a core of the same biscuity red fruit flavour, savoury nutty notes and a wrap of assertive, persistent acidity that holds rich powerful flavour deep and focused whilst maintaining a polished, gently creamy texture. Long chalky bread and biscuit finish. A superb Pinot-driven vintage.”
Wine Spectator 95 points “–Collectibles– This elegant version shows beautiful texture and a sense of finesse despite the underlying power of vibrant acidity and smoky minerality. The palate offers a finely layered mesh of blackberry, poached pear, almond pastry, lemon zest and pickled ginger flavors. Drink now through 2028.” WS

Domaine Forey
Arriving April 15th
Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2013 750ML ($29.95) $26 pre-arrival special
Burghound–“A pretty and attractively fresh nose features notes of assorted red berries, herbal tea and earth. There is good volume to the textured, complex and nicely voluminous flavors that possess fine length on the slightly edgy finish. This racy effort should be approachable young.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Morey-Saint-Denis 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound–“A discreet touch of wood sets off notes of more complex and more deeply pitched aromas of dark berries, humus and plum along with a similar hint of herbal tea. Here too there is an appealing texture to the velvety and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that possess good tension on the acceptably balanced and lingering finish that also exhibits a very mild edginess that will probably round off with a year or two of bottle age.”
Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound 88 points “Here too there is a touch of herbal tea to the spicy nose of earth, red berries and sauvage hints. There is fine mid-palate density with obviously ripe supporting structure shaping the big and rich flavors that are very Nuits in basic character. This muscular and mildly austere effort should reward 7 to 9 years of cellar time.”
Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Vosne-Romanee 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound 88 points “A pungent nose of crushed leaf, red pinot fruit and wood introduces very round and seductively textured medium weight flavors that possess a velvety character, all wrapped in a persistent and vibrant finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reappears.”
2012 Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco
The 2012 Barbarescos in general are more open and ready to drink, according to Antonio Galloni. Yet the 2012 release from Produttori del Barbaresco offers a greater promise of structure and longevity than many; in 2012 the famed 9 cru riservas from Produttori were, well, not reserved. They are all here blended in this $28 Barbaresco. Produttori’s leader, Aldo Vacca, shows a consistent attention to quality over quick profit and has steadily modernized only where necessary. His long term view could be the key to the continued success in even more challenging vintages.
Produttori del Barbaresco 2012 Arrives Fall 2016:
Produttori del Barbaresco ‘Barbaresco DOCG’ 2012 750ML ($37.95) $28 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 93 points “A pretty red, boasting floral, strawberry and raspberry flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, creating a balanced impression. Best from 2017 through 2027.”
Antonio Galloni 92 points “A big, powerful wine, the 2012 Barbaresco hits the palate with surprising depth allied to nervous tannins that are going to need time to soften. Tobacco, smoke, licorice, menthol, game and a host of dark, ferrous notes give the wine much of its virile personality. The 2012 is not as finessed as some recent vintages, yet it offers considerable potential for the future. Most importantly, it is a terrific value at a time when well-priced Barbaresco is increasingly hard to find. In 2012, the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. When that happens, the straight Barbaresco is often an overachiever. That is certainly the case here, as the 2012 offers outstanding quality for the money, with plenty of potential for the future. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much pleasure and value.”
The 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva Crus arrive next Monday, April 18th – view the full list through our web store at www.vinopoliswineshop.com
One Last Contempaltive Sip Before We Go…
Badia a Coltibuono Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice Arriving in July
Badia a Coltibuono Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Occhio di Pernice, Tuscany 2006 375ML ($79.95) $69 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 95 points “The 2006 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Occhio di Pernice is one of the best wines I have tasted from Badia a Coltibuono in some time. Sweet, dark and voluptuous, the 2006 shows all of the richness of a 100% Sangiovese Vin Santo, yet also possesses remarkable restraint for such a big wine, with plenty of intensity but no excess weight. A bevy of leather, licorice and clove notes round out the silky, mid-weight finish.”
Bruce Wiatrak- Vinous Media “Their Occhio di Pernice is a different animal entirely, even more distinct from Coltibuono’s white rendition than Avignonesi’s two Vin Santos are from one another. Stucchi relies on “perfect” Sangiovese clusters for the Occhio di Pernice, loose and healthy. He crushes the fruit in a basket press, but leaves the must there for two days for the skins to impart more pigment. The 2006 sweeps across the palate in broad strokes of coffee grounds, poached figs, toffee and buttered popcorn. A thread of acidity keeps the Vin Santo focused and long, needling its way through the fleshy, brooding wine”
