Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais Estate
Chāteau des Jacques:
Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais Estate
Louis Jadot purchased their Moulin-à-Vent estate in 1996, becoming one of the first major Burgundy houses with significant holdings in the region. Their vineyards including holdings in some of the most famous Beaujolais crus of Moulin-à-Vent, Morgon, and Fleurie. These vineyards are notable for their pink granite soils, unique to the region, on which Gamay excels. Since taking over the estate, Maison Jadot has added organic and biodynamic practices, less with a mind towards certification than towards the health and character of each parcel.
The hand harvested grapes are rigorously sorted and destemmed before undergoing Burgundian winemaking techniques such as long macerations, natural fermentation, and barrel maturation. The resulting wines are silky and bright, with excellent aging potential. We’d say that these are surprisingly complex, but the secret is out about the quality of Beaujolais, especially from illustrious producers such as Jadot.

We offer eleven Chāteau des Jacques options on sale now, including:
Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Fleurie 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $31.90, that’s $30.31 at 5% off and $28.71 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “This wine is a blend made from the great parcels owned within the appellation by the Chāteau des Jacques, namely Bel Air, Grille-Midi and Cercillon. They are located at an altitude above 300 m on a winding place. The pink granite varies from one vineyard parcel to another (depth and alteration), lending the wine complexity…With a beautiful deep cherry colour, red fruits flesh and flowers aromas, this Fleurie is rich, delicate and smooth. It is a very lush and voluptuous wine.”
Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $31.90, that’s $30.31 at 5% off and $28.71 at 10% off, 34 bottles in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 91 points “The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent has a sapid, marine-tinged bouquet, hints of shucked oyster shell infusing the dark berry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly furry tannins, spicier than the Morgon, with a little more edginess and pepperiness on the finish. Very fine. (Drink between 2024-2032).”

Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Morgon 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $29, that’s $27.55 at 5% off and $26.10 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Decanter 92 points “The blended ‘village’ Morgon from Chāteau des Jacques is delicious, with a fairly deep colour, dark plummy fruit, and hints of black tea, anise and earth. The texture is tannic, dense and firm, but there is enough freshness to guarantee that this continues to sing on the palate. The grapes are from the granite soils of Courcelette (where this domaine owns 14ha) and the Roches Pourries of the Cōte du Py (where there are another 6ha). The combination provides a wine of harmonious elegance that is in no way lacking in power or length. (Drink between 2024-2035).”

Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin 2022 1.5L Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 3 magnums in stock now
Winery Note “A few steps away from the windmill itself, and separated from the la Roche vineyard by a small road, the Clos du grand Carquelin faces a little bit more towards the south and offers a different personality. Here the soil is made of granitic sands and is deeper (60m) and more clayish…The Clos du Grand Carquelin is a particularly complex, delicate and elegant wine. It is appealing, lively and opens nicely once in a glass. This cru Beaujolais is a nice companion to delicately flavoured dishes.”

Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès 2022 1.5L Displayed Price: $106, that’s $100.70 at 5% off and $95.40 at 10% off, 3 magnums in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 90 points “The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès has more complexity on the nose compared to the regular cuvée: more floral, iris flower scents filtering through the dark berry fruit, and hints of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It’s fleshy, but right at the finish, it is a tad sweeter than I would like, lacking a bit of sapidity and tension. Near, yet not quite there! That said, it remains a decent Moulin-à-Vent that will benefit from a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2025-2033).”

Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Morgon Côte du Py 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “An emblematic terroir composed of bluish rocks derived from an underwater volcano and whose origins are even more ancient than the pink granite of Moulin à Vent…The interesting aspect of Côte du PY originates from the blue rock which is richer than its neighbour planted on granite. It shows rich aromas of white pepper and blackberry together with full body. Its complexity will enhance a wide range of delicate dishes.”
Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent La Roche 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “As ‘la Roche’ means, this vineyard is situated under the windmill (Moulin-A-Vent) on the mother rock old of 320 million years Only the Gamay grape is able to prosper on such soils almost without any water reserve throughout the year. Vinification: Picked and sorted by hand, then often de-stemmed, the grapes macerate slowly over the course of three to four weeks. Both pigeage and pumping over takes place during fermentation depending on the vintage. Winemaking and bottling: The wines are aged in our historic cellar for 10 months, a period spent in oak barrels, partly new and partly one, two and three vinages old. The oak used to make the barrels comes from the French forests of Allier, Limousin and Nivernais. Tasting / Food pairing: La Roche is a wine of great tension, with lots of minerality and precision. It is very linear in style, a characteristic that makes it a particularly apt match for complex and refined dishes.”

Louis Jadot Chāteau des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Clos des Thorins 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Decanter-Andy Howard MW 95 points “Facing south, the 60-year-old vines at Clos des Thorins are located on deep granitic soils. 12 months maturation in oak post-fermentation. A fine Moulin-à-Vent with precision and focus on the palate. Violet notes, not over-sweet or heavy. Plenty of substance with floral character and black olive notes. Complex and beautifully constructed – a terroir driven wine.”

Salvioni
The Salvioni estate is dedicated to quality by keeping their yields low and their vineyard plantings small enough to allow for focused attention on every vine. Their ten acres of vines lie at over 1,200 feet above sea level. Up here, a near constant breeze reduces disease pressure on the vines and helps grapes retain acidity, ensuring freshness even in hot vintages like 2017. The resulting wines are almost Napa-esque in their combination of jammy ripeness and lifted acidity. In order to maximize the power of their old vines, yields are highly reduced. The wines undergo extended aging, longer than required in vat and bottle.
In Stock Now:
Salvioni Cerbaiola Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 750ml Was $199, Now $169, 9 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points “The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola grows in intensity in the glass, with delicate aromas that are especially floral and light in character. Instead of blackberry or blackcurrant, this elegant wine delivers cassis and cranberry. Instead of overt spice, you get licorice, balsam herb and camphor ash. The Salvioni house style is ethereal and light, and although that extra vintage ripeness and concentration does register on the palate, farming and winemaking at this estate puts an emphasis on acidity over power or structure. These choices were particularly important in 2017.”
Salvioni Cerbaiola Rosso di Montalcino 2018 750ml Was $89, Now $79, 10 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points “The 2018 Salvioni Rosso di Montalcino leads off with a zesty, fresh display of Sangiovese fruit, as a mix of cherry and strawberry is complemented by hints of sweet spice, leather and gorgeous exotic florals. On the palate, I’m finding a wonderfully pure expression, focused on ripe red fruits with energizing acids and subtle spice, as pretty inner rose develops toward the close. Hints of fine tannin and minerals mingle throughout the finish, and a staining of black cherry lingers on and on. What a beautiful, feminine, and truly enjoyable vintage for the Salvioni Rosso.”
