Domaine Huet Vouvray ‘Le Mont’ Demi-Sec, Loire 2023 375ml Displayed Price: $28, that’s $26.60 at 5% off and $25.20 at 10% off, 12 half-bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 93 points “For a demi-sec, this leans toward the dry, savory end of the spectrum. There are a lot of layers and substance to this, with a savory thread of green herbs and bitter white tea weaving through elderflower, quince and apple flavors, while gentle tannins provide a solid frame. Cool river stone and pink peppercorn notes line the finish, encased in smoke and salt, with length and a lot of depth. The toasty cedar notes will integrate with more time in bottle. Drink now through 2037. 740 cases made.”
Chateau Rieussec ‘Les Carmes de Rieussec’, Sauternes 2012 375ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 36+ half-bottles in stock now
Falstaff 91 points “[Translated] Deep yellow-green with a clear edge. Notes of dried apricots, fine yellow stone fruits, pleasant dried fruits, and delicate honey. Juicy, elegant, ripe pineapple and well-integrated honey sweetness. Medium length, cleanly made.”
Winery note “Bouquet of white flowers, acacia and honeysuckle. On the palate, the sweetness is present from the start with notes of honey; the wine then confirms a balanced, harmonious structure and the moderately long finish ends with a pleasant, fairly lively expression. 87% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon blanc, 3% Muscadelle… Carmes de Rieussec, the second wine, is selected based on the same criteria as Château Rieussec. It expressed beautiful aromatics, with a dominant citrus palette. Its name is a reference to the Carmes de Langon monks.”
C.H. Berres Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel, Mosel 2015 375ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 12 half-bottles in stock now
Winemaker’s Note (via importer) “This noble-sweet Auslese Goldkapsel from the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard presents a tight and concentrated nose of ripe, sweet peach, honey and dried apricots blended with mango fruit and a hint of orange peel. Swirling the glass it reveals the oily, concentrated texture. The taste is nicely structured and well balanced. Fruity acidity breaks through the residual sugar to clear the palate. This is a full-bodied wine with a long lasting, mellow, melting finish. 100% botrytised grapes.”
Weingut Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Auslese, Nahe 2020 375ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 98 points “Such an exotic nose with a slew of passion fruit, mangosteen and King Alfonso mango. Compact and concentrated, but the more important things are the coolness and gracefulness of this moderately sweet Auslese that turns in a dark, “earthy” direction at the powerful finish. Very limited production. From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification. Drink or hold.”
Weingut Emrich-Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Auslese, Nahe 2020 375ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 23 half-bottles in stock now
Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 98 points “Very intense, candied yellow-grapefruit nose. Super-concentrated, but the most important thing about this Auslese is the incredibly tight focus on the palate and the purity of the dried apricot and mango. Super-succulent and vibrant finish that doesn’t want to stop. Drink or hold.”
Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese, Mosel 2020 375ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 13 half-bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 94 points “This feels like it’s holding back a little on the floral, apricot, lime and slate flavors. Light-bodied and graceful, this is well-structured and focused on the lingering finish. Reveals just a touch of earthiness that should disappear with aeration (as this did) or age. Best from 2024 through 2045. —B.S.”
Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese, Mosel 2020 375ml Displayed Price: $41.90, that’s $39.81 at 5% off and $37.71 at 10% off, 36+ half-bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 94 points “The 2020er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese offers a gorgeously attractive and ripe nose of almond cream, honeyed peach, smoke, tangerine, orange zest, candied grapefruit, and apricot. The wine is luscious and proves well on the sweet side on the palate. There is presence and intensity, yet the finish is already airier and more refined than what one could initially expect. Patience will be required, as usual, for the wine to develop its full complexity and integrate all its elements. 2035-2050.”
Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten ‘Im Breumel’ Riesling Auslese, Pfalz 2015 375ml Was $49, Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 36+ half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2015 Riesling Auslese Haardter Bürgergarten Im Breumel is very clear and concentrated on the nose, but also shows the brown seed aromas of ripe Riesling. Great class and precision here, with some minty flavors. The wine is very concentrated, lush and round on the palate; it reveals a super sweet raisin flavor, as well as great finesse and vitality. This is a gorgeous Auslese with salinity and grip.”
Weingut Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese 14, Mosel 2018 375ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 13 half-bottles in stock now
John Gilman-A View From the Cellar 96 points “The 2018 Domprobst Auslese AP #14 is also an outstanding wine in the making, with just a touch more fruit-driven personality than the AP #11 version. The bouquet is very expressive out of the blocks, offering up a gorgeous mix of pear, mirabelle, tangerine, slate, gentle notes of honeycomb and a topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, fullbodied and absolutely loaded with beautiful fruit on the attack and mid-palate, with a lovely undertow of slate, great focus and grip and a long, zesty and beautifully balanced finish. This is another breathtakingly beautiful Auslese from the estate in 2018! 2026-2085. 96.”
Weingut A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberg Riesling Auslese *, Mosel 2016 375ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 11 half-bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 92 points “The 2016er Auslese * was made from the second pressing of the Eiswein grapes harvested on November 30. This already golden-colored wine delivers a rather ripe and exotic nose of grapefruit, candied passion fruit and backed pineapple. It is nicely balanced on the palate and does not exhibit the usual “Eiswein bite” of such wines but proves more luscious in style. The acidity comes eventually through in the sweet and complex finish. 2023-2036.”
Joh. Jos. Prum Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese Long Gold Capsule, Mosel 2017 375ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 8 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2017 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese (Long Gold Capsule), AP 18 18, is very clear, intense and generous but precise on the nose, with lots of mango, ripe peach, mirabelle and honey aromas. On the palate, this is a generously rich but refined, finessed and lush Auslese with a salty-piquant finish that is intense, complex and long. Honey-sweet but still crystalline, transparent and really kicking, this is another gorgeous 2017 Auslese from the Prüm family. Tasted in March 2019.”
Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ***, Mosel 2018 375ml Was $59, Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 36 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97+ points “The first three-starred Auslese since 2005 (prior to that, it was 1993, 1983 and 1975), the 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** was picked at about 145° Oechsle. This is incredibly clear, pure, fine and fresh on the lush, concentrated, herbal and grapefruit-scented nose. On the palate, this is a generously lush, refined and salty-piquant Auslese with a tight mineral structure and lingering salinity. This is highly refined and extremely stimulating. It already drinks all too well today, but Constantin recommends cellaring it for at least 10 years. Tasted in March 2019.”
Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** Gold Capsule, Mosel 2013 375ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 10 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2013 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** needs a little but of time to open up and show its finest, intense raisin aromas indicating grapefruit/lemon and pineapples on a piquant background. Rich, oily textured and extremely elegant on the palate, the wine offers a lavish tropical juiciness quoting pineapples, but is stunningly pure and piquant. The finish is beautifully balanced and highly elegant. This is perfectly made.”
Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Beerenauslese, Mosel 2019 375ml Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 11 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 94 points “The 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Beerenauslese is clear, fresh and very delicate on the subtle yet complex nose that reveals white tea aromas along with lemon-scented notes of crushed stones. Round and filigreed on the palate, this is a light and delicate, finessed yet intense and salty BA whose sweetness is well captured by mineral grip and tension. This is a really excellent, frisky and digestible BA for aperitifs, entrées and desserts. 6% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021”
Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese *, Mosel 2018 375ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 10 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 100 points “The 2018 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese * is precise, clear and highly refined on the subtle, aromatic and flinty nose that represents perfect, early botrytis. Sweet and piquant on the crystalline and salty palate, this is a pristine, perfectly round and balanced BA with great finesse and elegance. Absolutely fabulous and complete. If you like it sweet, you can already enjoy this BA, due to its finesse and balance, but I’d cellar it for 15-20 years before I’d even think of drinking it. Sold in 375-milliliter bottles. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.”
Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenhuhr Riesling Beerenauslese, Mosel 2018 375ml Was $79, Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 11 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2018 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese displays an intense but very clear and radiant citrus color in the glass. The nose is concentrated and fresh, with lemon chutney and broken stone aromas. Pure and fresh on the palate, this is a dense, concentrated, rich yet very precise, fresh and elegant BA with a long, crunchy, terroir-driven finish that represents the delicate slate structure of the Sonnenuhr. Still young but not really sweet due to the crystalline acidity structure. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.”
C.H. Berres Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Mosel 2010 375ml Displayed Price: $199, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 6 half-bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 95 points “A rich, buttery aroma leads to a vibrant, luxuriant mix of ripe apricot, peach and kiwifruit flavors that are flanked by notes of smoke and spice. Velvety and lush on the finish, which is filled with notes of cream and golden raisin. Drink now through 2050. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 40 cases made.”
Weingut Emrich-Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese, Nahe 2018 375ml Was $299, Displayed Price: $249, that’s $236.55 at 5% off and $224.10 at 10% off, 14 half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98+ points “The 2018 Halenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is incredibly pure and aromatic on the nose where super ripe but clear peach aromas are displayed. Extremely rich and refined on the palate, this is a ripe, terribly sweet but refined, fresh and salty-piquant TBA with a stimulating finish. A fabulous wine. Tasted in July 2019.”
Weingut Karlsmuhle Lorenzhofer Trockenbeerenauslese, Mosel 2007 375ml Was $119, Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 22 half-bottles in stock now
David Schildknecht-Wine Advocate 93+ points “…Dried peach, apricot, and date mingle with quince preserves, licorice and further suggestions of herbal concentrate both on the nose and palate. While impressively viscous, this preserves a welcome lightness of touch and vivacity illustrative of the best aspects of the vintage, and its residual sugar is remarkably restrained in expression…”
Weingut Korrell Johanneshof Kreuznacher ‘Paradies’ Riesling Eiswein, Nahe 2016 375ml Was $79, Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 8 half-bottles in stock now
Grapelive 94 points “Korrell is one of the Nahe’s latest break out stars and every wine I’ve tried from Martin Korrell has been absolutely stunning, including this Eiswein. Crafted from old vines at their estate monopole Paradies Vineyard in Bad Kreuznach, from those grapes that hang out until the first freeze and were individual berry picked off the vine. Concentrated in sugars, but still bristling with natural acidity the gorgeous and opulent 2016 Korrell Eiswein Paradies goes on and on in mouth. Even with the residual sugar levels off the carts, this wine stays incredibly balanced and doesn’t drink as sweet as you’d imagine, making for a heavenly experience from its perfumed nose to its lingering tropical fruits. This is entrancing stuff with layers of lychee, candied pineapple, apricot jelly, honeycomb, lime blossom, white roses, chamomile, a hint of spearmint, mineral spice and cool wet stone…”
Weingut Prinz Hallgartener Wurzgarten Riesling Eiswein, Rheingau 2016 375ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 21 half-bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “AP: 63 17. The 2016er Riesling Eiswein was made from fruit harvested at approx. 120° Oechsle in Bernkastel, Erden and Ürzig on both November 29 and November 30, and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (143 g/l). It develops a beautifully zesty and fresh nose of candied grapefruit, orange jelly, and spices, joined by riper notes of quince, pear puree, and almond cream after some airing. The wine is superbly balanced and refined on the palate, and leaves a rather pure and smooth feel in the very long and light finish. The sweetness still dominates the acid core in the after-taste at this stage, but this should change after a few years of cellaring. 2024-2036. (Oct 2019).”
Champagne of the Day:
Guy Charlemagne’s Mesnillésime
Situated in Mesnil-sur-Oger in the heart of Côte des Blancs is the grower Champagne house of Guy Charlemagne. This producer is special, turning out artisanal, traditionally structured and refined Champagnes using ancient vines grown in some of the most sought-after terroir in the world.
The Charlemagne family has been making wine in Mesnil-sur-Oger since 1892, five generations bringing new breath to their land, while continuing the tradition of producing world class Champagne. Per Peter Liem, this is a grower to hunt for, especially their top bottling, Mesnillésime, which is “a vintage-dated blanc de blancs from Charlemagne’s oldest vines in Le Mesnil: like all of his wines, it’s brisk and racy, although it has a layered depth of fruit and a prominent chalkiness to counter its high acidity.” This cuvee is made from 100% Chardonnay hand-harvested from sixty-year-old vines grown in the chalky, limestone soil of Mesnil-sur-Oger. Champagne expert and author Richard Juhlin writes that the “Mesnillésime is a wine for every serious collector,” and goes on to note that Guy Charlemagne “is a grower to watch with the greatest respect in the future.”
If you’re familiar with the producer, you’re probably aware of how difficult their wines are to find. We’re lucky to have a strong connection with a local importer that simply adores the Champagne estate as much as we do. We have just a smidge left of the 2014 vintage, a charming year just entering its prime drinking window, per Anne Krebiehl MW, of Vinous, whose recent review underscores its food-friendly and delicious nature.

Guy Charlemagne Mesnillésime Vieilles Vignes Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut, Champagne 2014 750ml Was $119, Now $99 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Anne Krebiehl MW-Vinous 93 points “The 2014 Extra Brut Mesnillésime Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a pure Chardonnay from on average 60-year-old vines in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, vinified in oak with blocked malolactic fermentation. Notes of dried corn husk and salty maize meal on the nose take turns with yellow apple on the nose. The oak is apparent in savoriness rather than vanilla and a certain roundness on the body, beautifully handled. The mousse is still bright and sprightly, highlighting saltiness and fresh apple equally. This has an assertive personality, and comes across as a muscular, toned blanc de blancs, bracing at first, then relaxing into a warm smile. The umami finish can absolutely take on food.”
Winery note “A Grand Champagne with character from the Côte des Blancs terroir, specifically from Le Mesnil sur Oger (limestone parcels averaging 60 years of age). This champagne produced from first press of Le Mesnil sur Oger Grand Cru juices, highlights the exact characteristic of our village. Jewel of the Charlemagne house, this vintage wine combines both authenticity and the search for perfect quality. Elegantly presented with exceptional labelling, this Mesnillesime cuvee is produced with rigorous vinification, partially in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation, and a very light dosage of 4 grams per liter. Matured for 6 years in our chalk underground cellars, this cuvee highlights the excellence of our production. Chardonnay, the only grape here, shows what balance, harmony and purity can mean. A rare champagne for unforgettable moments. Pale yellow with green hues. Persistent mousse with very fine bubbles. Powerful yet elegant nose dominated by acacia honey eventually shows notes of candied lemon, smoke and a blend of pepper. Unctuous, lightly oaked and complex on the palate, candied fruit and citrus aromas pave the way to a fresh, vanilla finish.”

Vinopolis Close-Out Sale Featurette:
Conterno Fantino
Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino founded this winery in 1982, which is now located in Monforte d’Alba. The winery works exclusively with estate-grown fruit from 26 hectares of vines, which is personally cultivated by family members. Fruit is carefully hand-selected into small crates to preserve the fragile aromatics before undergoing spontaneous fermentation. The estate employs French barriques, new wood, and limited additions of sulfur to craft opulent and polished wines. They’ve been certified organic since 2014. You won’t find an entry-level Barolo here alongside their single-vineyard bottlings. Instead, the winery crafts its Langhe Nebbiolo as a calling-card (without the eye-watering price of others that take their Langhe wines seriously). We have a few remaining bottles of the 2018 in stock and on our Close-Out Sale.

Conterno Fantino ‘Ginestrino’ Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont 2018 750ml Was $41.90, Now $36, 8 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 93 points “The Conterno Fantino 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Ginestrino opens to fragrant and delicate aromas straight from the Nebbiolo playlist. The wine opens to pretty aromas of wild cherry, rose, blood orange and iron ore. Winemaking starts with stainless steel and concludes with 10 months in French oak. The vines are planted in clay soils, and when you study the bouquet in depth, you do perceive a tad more structure and concentration as a result. Production is an ample 35,500 bottles.”
Importer Note “Made from the Michet and Lampia Nebbiolo sub-varieties grown in a young vineyard in Monforte d’Alba, in sand and clay soil about 200 to 450 meters (656 to 1,476 feet) above sea level. Vineyards are south-, southwest- and southeast-facing, on a 25%-40% gradient. Made from the same clones as the winery’s Barolos, the vines are younger – ranging up to fifteen years of age – and produce elegant wines with a lighter structure and all the freshness and crisp primary fruity and floral aromas a young Nebbiolo is known for.”
