Kopke
Kopke, founded in 1638 by Nicolau Kopkë, makes what might be the most vibrant and long-lived port wines available. Considered the oldest Port house, they have been through adverse times in their nearly 400-year history, seeing dramatic shifts in the climate, swings in the popularity of their product, and the rise and fall of populist dictators. Through all of this, they’ve been consistent in their commitment to making the greatest Tawny and Colheita (vintage Tawny) Port available.
We’re fortunate to have a tremendous lineup available for your holiday table. The unbelievably youthful vintage Colheitas are perfect examples of how age adds concentration and depth, with the traditional Kopke freshness that keeps these so vibrant. These wines are aged for at least a decade at Kopke, longer than the minimum requirements. All of our selections will continue to show their highlights and develop rich spice and dried fruit characteristics for years to come.
The resulting Colheitas are lighter in style than a typical Vintage Port, offering a more refreshing alternative that aligns more closely with today’s popular preferences. Although typically served as dessert wines, these Colheitas pair well with decadent savory dishes and appetizers such as caramelized onion tartlets, pâtés, fine cheeses, and confit.
Hand-painted, these iconic bottles highlight the craftmanship of the wine within. Long associated with luxury (as one of the original wines stocked by Harrods’ wine department) these bottles will make a statement on your table and a cherished gift regardless of your budget.

Kopke Colheita Tawny Port 1967 750ml Displayed Price: $249, that’s $236.55 at 5% off and $224.10 at 10% off, 5 bottles in stock now
Mark Squires-Wine Advocate 95 points “The 1967 Colheita Tawny Port comes in with 142 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is a nice step up compared to the younger parts of the lineup, elegant and focused, with a precise finish, a fresh feel, little discernible brandy and a long, long finish. The classic old tawny flavors of molasses and caramel wash over the palate. This isn’t big and thick, but some may very well prefer its elegant and brighter feel. In many ways, it is fresher than the 1981 or 1999 reviewed this issue, and it is better balanced than the 1937. It is very pretty.”

Nick Room-IWSC 97 points “Excellent in all aspects. Caramel and molasses on the nose, palate abundant with deeper toffee, vanilla and ripe prune. Cedar spices combine with fine citrus fruit around a red fruit core. Balanced and with further evolution still to come. Seriously good.”

Wine Enthusiast 92 points “As one of a series of great, aged tawnies released by Kopke, this Colheita is still quite young. It has just hints of the freshness of red fruits that are now endowed with intense acidity, old-wood flavors and great concentration. Dried fruits show through the bite of spirit and the mellow aftertaste. Drink now.”

Wine Spectator 94 points “A very inviting, open style, with butterscotch and caramel notes framing the core of glazed pear, caramelized peach, golden raisin and warm fig flavors. The lush finish lets crème brûlée and ginger cream details hang, showing a flash of honeysuckle for lift. Drink now. 200 cases imported.”

Kopke 50 Year Old Tawny Port 750ml Displayed Price: $219, that’s $208.05 at 5% off and $197.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
Mark Squires-Wine Advocate 98 points “The NV 50 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled in May 2022 with 134 grams of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. This is an entrant in the new age-indicated category of 50; it no longer stops at 40. I thought the 50 Year white was fabulous. Its Tawny brother is as good or better. It doesn’t have the brightness of the white in terms of acidity (the fruit doesn’t taste old in terms of decay, so don’t misunderstand), but it is richer, lusher and more flavorful. There’s a touch of nuts, caramel and spice. It also has a long, long finish, which is what I would expect from an old Tawny in top form. Kopke did a great job with the blend here. This is completely delicious, smooth and balanced, juicy on the finish. Which is better? Depends on what you like, and it is worth getting some of each. For wines this old, the prices are reasonable. They are both great experiences.”

Kopke 50 Year Old White Port 375ml Displayed Price: $179, that’s $170.05 at 5% off and $161.10 at 10% off, 4 half-bottles in stock now
Mark Squires-Wine Advocate 96 points “The NV 50 Year White Port was bottled in April 2022 with 123 grams of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. Shockingly fresh for its age, this is also delicious, concentrated and impressively long on the finish. It has a lot of characteristics of an old Tawny, but a very fresh old Tawny. The acidity enlivens this, though, making it both lighter and brighter than a typical Tawny. It has a refreshing quality that is appealing to go with its complexity. There’s also power and grip, but it always tastes great. The finish goes on forever. This is a great white.”

Kopke Vintage Port 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $89, that’s $84.55 at 5% off and $80.10 at 10% off, 4 bottles in stock now
Wine Enthusiast 96 points “This is a luscious wine, with tannins that are cushioned by the ripe plum and prune fruits. That doesn’t mean it is likely to develop too quickly, but is ready to take its time, bringing out the opulent character of the wine as well as its structure. Drink from 2028. -Roger Voss”

Although the main focus of Kopke has always been its Colheita and Tawnies, they also craft exceptional Vintage Port. Over 100 years ago, the House acquired the Quinta de São Luiz, recognized as one of the most important estates in the Douro due to the quality of its vineyards and its history. You can experience two Vintage Ports from this estate, the 2015 and 2019.

Wine Spectator 92 points “A flattering style, with a generous feel to the mix of raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry puree flavors that glide through. Light fruitcake and red licorice accents infuse the finish, which has a nice kick of freshness. Best from 2028 through 2045. 200 cases imported. — JM”

Loads of anise, red tea, fruitcake and melted licorice notes entwine themselves to the fruit, leading to a seductive finish. Best from 2040 through 2060. 350 cases made, 10 cases imported. — JM”

Clos des Fées
This Roussillon producer, founded in 1997 by the sommelier and wine writer, Hervé Bizeul, crafts excellent wines for the money. This bottling is a blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache, and Carignan from old vines grown on hillsides with limestone and clay soils. Aging takes place in new French oak, adding depth and flavor to this impactful wine. With cellaring potential of at least fifteen years, this is in its peak now and for several years to come.

Domaine du Clos des Fées Cotes du Roussillon Villages 2015 750ml Was $54.50, Now $49, 12 bottles in stock now
Joe Czerwinski-Wine Advocate 96 points “Eighteen months in new French oak barrels has given the 2015 Côtes du Roussillon Villages le Clos des Fées a certain tightness and discipline lacking in the Vieilles Vignes bottling. There’s still massive fruit and buried complexity, full body and rich tannins, but there’s also firmness of structure that shows the serious, age-worthy side of Bizeul’s winemaking. Vanilla and baking spices accent deep, dark cherries and plums, ending in a long, velvety finish.”
