What do Goodfellow Family Cellars and Tan Fruit have in common? They are top of the Willamette Valley’s greats, receiving top flight praise and appreciation. And they are two of our favorites! In honor of Thanksgiving, we’re placing both of these beloved estates on our three day sale, starting now.
We’ve waxed poetic on both estates for quite some time, but if you’re not familiar, here are our primers to get you up to speed:
Goodfellow Family Cellars
Marcus Goodfellow is one of the most talented winemakers in Oregon. We count ourselves lucky to have had a strong relationship with his winery since its early days under the old name of Matello. He is joined by the equally talented and knowledgeable Megan Joy.
Their wines showcase their microscopic understanding of the potential in the terroirs of the Willamette Valley. Together, they craft wines that continually improve—both in the cellar and vintage to vintage. We love the wines for their coiled power and Burgundian structure, and we stack them enthusiastically & abundantly in our own personal cellars to adore for decades to come.
Tan Fruit
As the third-generation in his family to make wine, Jim Maresh (of Arterberry Maresh) knows a thing or two about crafting Grand Cru-level Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. From the winery’s prized position in the Dundee Hills, he releases what critics praise as “are some of the most impressive wines I’ve tried anywhere—not just in the US”, per Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate.
Tan Fruit is Jim’s experimental Chardonnay side project first launched in late 2021. Now, you could assume that the wines are throwaway gags not meant to see the light of day, but leave it to Jim to make his side project a points-sweeping EVENT. Wine Advocate gushed over the first releases from 2019, granting the wines top marks for Oregon whites in the vintage. The second set of releases from the 2021 vintage were just as breathlessly adored.
These are stunning releases offer even more exploration of Oregon, sourcing from a mixture of vineyards, including new sites with each release. Stock up during our three-day sale and make sure to watch this space!

We offer thirty options from Goodfellow & Tan Fruit on sale now, including:
Tan Fruit ‘Petite Tan Fruit’ Chardonnay 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $19, that’s $18.05 at 5% off and $17.10 at 10% off, 34 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 90 points “The Petite Chardonnay has soft aromas of flint, marzipan and fresh bread accenting a core of white peach. The light-bodied palate balances a concentrated core of stone fruit with bright, gently tangy acidity, and it has a long, nutty finish. A great value and introduction to Oregon Chardonnay, I suspect it will show up on savvy sommeliers’ by-the-glass lists.”

Tan Fruit Anela Vineyard Chardonnay, Chehalem Mountains 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2022 Chardonnay Anela is singular and savory. Candied peaches and manuka honey mingle with dried sage, roasted hazelnuts and struck flint on the nose, and it teases you with slowly blossoming, spicy undertones. The palate is luxurious and satiny with kaleidoscopic, mouth-coating flavors, and its modest 30% new French oak is already well integrated. It has a foil of laser-like acidity, and its juiciness and hauntingly long finish draw you back to the glass again and again.”

Tan Fruit Dupee Vineyard Chardonnay, McMinnville 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 25 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 94 points “The Dupee Chardonnay was barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in 25% new French oak. It opens with youthful flinty character that gives way to alluring scents of white peach, brioche and meringue. The light-bodied palate features dynamic flavors of ripe citrus and saline, honey and nuts. Its satiny texture is structured by tense, linear acidity, and it has a long, mineral-driven finish. It will be long lived in the cellar.”

Tan Fruit Maresh Vineyard Chardonnay, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 24 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 95 points “The 2022 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard comes from a block of Dijon clone vines planted in 1991 in the Dundee Hills on a steep, south-facing slope at 675 feet of elevation. Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in 15% new French oak, plus four months in stainless steel, it’s reminiscent of Chablis and boasts exceptionally pure aromas. It opens with flint and petrichor before blossoming to apricot, elderflower liqueur, lime peel and hazelnuts. The palate is vibrant and silky with understated layers of creamy, peachy fruit, and its linear acidity and flinty tones come together for a shimmery finish. For several days after it’s opened, the Maresh Vineyard becomes more and more expressive, pointing to a long life in the cellar.”

Tan Fruit Sophie’s Vineyard Chardonnay, Umpqua Valley 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2021 Chardonnay Sophie’s Vineyard comes from an isolated vineyard near the town of Yoncalla in the Umpqua Valley, planted in the late 1970s with Draper and Wente selections. Matured in oak and finished with four months in stainless steel, it has fresh scents of green pear, quince and citrus blossom with undertones of almonds, flint and honey. The light-bodied palate is creamy and plush with gently nutty fruits and a long, refreshing finish.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Willamette Valley Extra Brut NV 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 28 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points “Dusty florals and spices give way to yellow apples and hints of iodine as the NV Extra Brut evolves in the glass. Soothingly round and textured, it sweeps across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and a bead of creamy bubbles. This finishes remarkably clean and pure, leaving a resonance of ripe Anjou pear to linger on. The balance here is unreal. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter.”
Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Dundee Hills NV 750ml Displayed Price: $56, that’s $53.20 at 5% off and $50.40 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94 points “A vivid blend of ripe apples and pears, sweet sage and honeyed florals form an enticing bouquet as the NV Blanc de Blancs Durant blossoms in the glass. This displays immaculate balance, mixing ripe pit fruits and sweet spice with flinty minerals over a luxuriously creamy bead of bubbles. It finishes with admirable length and concentration, adding grip to the finish as enriching notes of raw almond fade slowly. The Durant is a blend of the 2019 and 2021 vintages.”
Goodfellow Family Cellars Rose, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $18, that’s $17.10 at 5% off and $16.20 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Winery Note “Peach blossoms, wild strawberries, star fruit, green melon, light florals. This is very pretty in the nose, light bodied with plenty of flavor, and brightly refreshing to drink. The bottle disappears quickly. Perfect for sunny days watching the hummingbirds, grilling chicken, and sushi. 82% direct press from the blanc de noir program and 18% saignee from100% whole cluster ferments of Whistling Ridge and Durant. 12.3% abv and 266 cases produced.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars ‘Vin Soif’ Chardonnay, McMinnville 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Winery Note “Yellow apple, pear, lime flower and peel, almonds, hints of tarragon and pastry dough. In the mouth, it’s more yellow apples and pear, underripe nectarine, lime peel, and a distinct stoniness. Bottled a year early from our normal Chardonnay program, the impetus for this wine was to push for a pretty, nervy, and slightly less lees inflected wine for everyday enjoyment. 12.0% abv and 198 cases produced.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Temperance Hill Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 96 points “The 2021 Chardonnay Temperance Hill is incredible in its aromatics for lovers of well-managed reduction. Bright golden-yellow, it’s flush with flint wet stones, vibrant citrus, and golden pineapple. Full-bodied, with a core of driving citrus and energetic acidity, it has a long and saline finish, with a weightless feel and elegant balance. It has a lovely, rounded edge to its acidity and does not come across as harsh. This is an outstanding and age-worthy wine to drink 2025-2035.”
Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Winery Note “The 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir shows aromatics of sweet dark strawberry, boysenberry and black cherry fruits. On the palate more dark black and red fruits, coffee, floral, and amaro notes, and an overlying savory, dark and wild spice and kitchen herb. Tannins are fine, but firm on the finish, and the palate is juicy and medium-light bodied. As with all of our Pinot Noirs, fermentations are 100% whole cluster, and relatively cool and slow, with native yeast in small 1.5 ton bins, and free run wine goes directly into barrel where it sits on the lees undisturbed for the duration of elevage. Cooperage is a mixture of new and used larger format (500L) puncheons, and neutral barriques.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Bishop Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton 2015 750ml Displayed Price: $41.90, that’s $39.81 at 5% off and $37.71 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93+ points “The 2022 Pinot Noir Durant entices with a sweetly spiced bouquet of wild blueberries, sweet herbs and hints of cinnamon spice. This is juicy and round, with perfumed wild berry fruits elevated by blood orange as bright-toned inner florals resonate throughout. It leaves a tactile staining of minerality and gently grippy tannins, finishing with a tinge of sour citrus that lingers on.”
Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points “The 2021 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge is spicy and savory in the glass, leading with a rich blend of steeped plums, cola and rose petals giving way to hints of clove. This is lifted and finessed with pretty red berries and suggestions of cocoa and inner florals, all guided by fresh acidity. The 2021 tapers off with medium length and a crunchy sensation, leaving just a tinge of fine tannin framing the experience beautifully. Of note, the Whistling Ridge took three hours to blossom, and it was worth the wait.”

Erste Lage” needed three bottles to convince me until it opened clear, pure and intense, with crushed stones and fresh ginger aromas on the nose. Pure, fresh and bright on the palate, this is a lithe, lush and salty dry Riesling with refreshing mineral grip and tension on the finish. Tasted in Haardt, December 2019.”

Muller-Catoir Haardter Herrenletten Riesling Trocken 2018 750ml Was $36.50, Now $28, 34 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 92 points “This shows a little bit of oomph, with powerful acidity cutting through the creamy notes of apricot, roasted pineapple and grapefruit. Ginger and tarragon details emerge midpalate and linger on the persistent, well-rounded finish. Almost there, but better to wait a few more years. Best from 2022 through 2032. 115 cases imported.”

Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 91+ points “The 2018 Riesling (Gimmeldinger) Mandelgarten “VDP. Erste Lage” is pure, fresh and fine but also ripe and aromatic on the nose. The palate is pure, fresh and straight, less juicy now than the 2017 but nuanced and stimulating due to an earlier harvest. Stimulatingly salty and piquant on the finish. Tasted in Haardt, December 2019.”

Muller-Catoir Gimmeldingen Riesling Kabinett 2018 750ml Was $24, Now $20.90, 36+ bottles in stock now
David Schildknecht-Vinous 91 points “Very ripe but coolingly mint-infused and muskily peony-tinged peach and fig inform the nose and the overtly sweet, glossy palate. The inner-mouth perfume and herbal essences lend the long finish an almost ethereal cast that complements its sense of alcoholic levity. (Drink between 2021-2030)”

Stuart Pigott (Suckling) 94 points “Crushed dill and coriander meet with bright citrus, loquats and pears. Only off-dry and very balanced with a well-judged component of acidity doing wonders for the mineral, expressive finish. Dialed-in and beautiful to drink now, but better to cellar for a decade. Drink now.”

Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten Breumel Riesling Auslese 2015 375ml Was $49, Now $39, 36+ half-bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2015 Riesling Auslese Haardter Bürgergarten Im Breumel is very clear and concentrated on the nose, but also shows the brown seed aromas of ripe Riesling. Great class and precision here, with some minty flavors. The wine is very concentrated, lush and round on the palate; it reveals a super sweet raisin flavor, as well as great finesse and vitality. This is a gorgeous Auslese with salinity and grip.”
