We’ve placed four of our top in-stock California estates on our three-day sale!
Buccella
According to Bill and Alicia Deem, their wine project began with a dream and a promise over a well-aged bottle of Gaja. That fact alone should properly set the stage for this winery’s power and ambition. After all, with a name like Buccella, translated from Latin into “mouthful,” why would they settle for something small?
Hundred Acre
Hundred Acre’s wines are as unique and filled with personality as their winemaker, Jayson Woodbridge. Big, bold, rich and textured, they’re among the most coveted wines we offer. Only one grape cluster is grown per vine and sorting occurs berry-by-berry at harvest, nearly unheard of practices that ensure intense concentration and complexity.
Kapcsandy
In 2000 Lou Kapcsándy discovered that the old Beringer State Lane vineyard, primary source for the Private Reserve Cabernet program, was for sale. He bought the twenty-acre vineyard, replanted it, and quickly began producing some of the most lauded wines to come out of the Napa Valley.
Kapcsándy’s grape growing philosophy involves intense cultivation, involving meticulous hedging and maintenance with continuity in the way the vines are planted, cared for and harvested. Vines are planted more densely than is typical for Napa Valley, instead mimicking the practices of 1st Growth Bordeaux. This creates smaller berries with higher skin-to-juice ratios and naturally stresses the vines resulting in a higher intensity of flavors, complexities, and aromas.
Morlet
Since arriving in California, Luc Morlet has left a distinctive imprint on many superlative wineries such as Peter Michael (where he is still a consultant) before establishing his own winery, Morlet Family Vineyards. Grapes are hand-harvested and double-sorted to maintain the highest quality before spontaneous fermentation and aging in French oak. These wines are stunningly focused and fractal-like in their complexity, drinking surprisingly well young despite their longevity.

Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $189, that’s $179.55 at 5% off and $170.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 95+ points “The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon shows a touch more purity and vibrancy, yet it’s certainly cut from the same cloth with its classic, age-worthy style. Cassis, crushed stone, lead pencil, and hints of violets define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, with beautiful tannins and the focused, pure, seamless style of the vintage. The blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, and the rest Merlot. It’s well worth following over the coming 20-25 years.”

Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $189, that’s $179.55 at 5% off and $170.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 95+ points “The inky-hued 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is surprisingly structured and powerful, with a big nose of cassis, chocolaty oak, scorched earth, and graphite. Where many 2019s are plush and opulent, this has a solid core of tannins that keeps it focused and elegant, with wonderful purity of fruit. I like it. It certainly offers pleasure today, yet smart money will give these 4-5 years in the cellar, and I suspect it will see its 20th birthday in fine form.”

Winemaker Notes “Always a 100% Cabernet blend, our Cuvée Katrina Eileen is an opulent and mouth-enriching wine. Captivated by the inky-black color, luscious scents of dark espresso and cinnamon stick leap out, along with powerful elements of graphite and cassis. Remarkably rich and seamless, while boasting flavors of blueberry compote, dark chocolate and black raspberries, this is a compelling and luxurious wine focused upon velvety texture, silky tannins and incredible length. An intentional breadth on the palate and length in the finish are hallmarks of this wine.”

Medium to full-bodied and densely packed with layers of blue and black fruits and perfumed notions, it has a firm yet plush backbone to support and a very long, layered finish.”

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate 94+ points “This is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Approximately two-thirds of the fruit for this vintage came from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard, with the other third coming from Morlet’s new “Coeur de Vallee” vineyard in Oakville—just across the road from To Kalon. Very deep purple-black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee prances out of the glass with a pretty perfume of lavender, chocolate-covered cherries and garrigue over a core of blackcurrant cordial, plum preserves and unsmoked cigars with a waft of dried mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has an impressive fine-grained texture with background freshness supporting the intense black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. 245 cases were made.”

Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals the full spectrum of Cabernet flavors, with lovely fine-grained tannins and great freshness providing a firm frame for the tightly wound flavors, finishing long and earthy/minerally. Just gorgeous. 850 cases were made.”

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate 96+ points “The estate-grown 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple-black in color, it charges forth with intense notes of crushed black cherries, black berry preserves and cassis scents with touches of spearmint, Indian spices, espresso and dried lavender plus a waft of roses. Robert Parker-Wine Advocate 91 points “Morlet has a Midas touch when it comes to Pinot Noir. His 2014 Pinot Noir Coteaux Nobles, like the other Pinots, comes from the Ft. Ross-Seaview AVA. These are all 100% destemmed and given 5-7 day cold prefermentation macerations. The results are wonderfully fragrant, velvety and complex Burgundian-style Pinots. The 2014 Pinot Noir Coteaux Nobles, from a Vosne-Romanée clone, exhibits floral forest floor notes, wonderful sweet red and black cherries, a hint of raspberries, violets, good acidity and a medium to full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel. Drink now-2030.”

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate 96 points “The Coteaux Nobles Pinot Noir comes from 27-year-old vines planted at the Nobles Ranch vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview AVA. Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2018 Pinot Noir Coteaux Nobles pops with lifted floral notes of roses and lavender over a core of Morello cherries, ripe raspberries and fresh mulberries, plus wafts of wild thyme and tilled loam. Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 95+ points “At this stage, the 2020 Pinot Noir Block 8 seems to have escaped impact from the season’s devastating heat and wildfires. It has complex aromas of strawberry jam, rhubarb, hibiscus, black tea, mushroom and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate is silky and refreshing and boasts highly concentrated flavors and a very long, perfumed finish.”

Jeb Dunnuck 97+ points “The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Morlet Estate comes from a vineyard just outside of Saint Helena and it’s always a more structured, masculine wine compared to the Passionnement release. Opulent notes of black fruits, chocolate, smoked earth, and some obvious minerality all emerge from this full-bodied, structured, big-boned Cabernet Sauvignon that’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 2-3 decades.”

It strolls nonchalantly out of the glass with carefree, effortless scents of warm cassis, preserved plums, boysenberries and blackberry tart with touches of cigar box, chargrill, lavender and iron ore plus a waft of dried Provence herbs. Medium-bodied, very refined, refreshing and elegant, it has wonderfully ripe, plush tannins and seamless acidity, finishing long and mineral laced. Robert Parker-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2013 Pinot Noir Joli Coeur is what Luc Morlet calls ‘the sweet spot’ of his Coteaux Nobles Vineyard. The berries tend to size up smaller and the clusters weigh less. This has an extra gear in it, so to speak, and displays plenty of black and red currant fruits, some rose petals and other floral notes, forest floor, a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific texture, and remarkable richness and purity. This stunner will age well for 10-15 years.”

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement leaps from the glass with notes of licorice, chocolate mint, warm cassis, plum preserves, charcoal and smoked meats with touches of lilacs and cedar chest plus a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a quiet intensity at first that grows exponentially in the mouth into an aria of epic proportions, revealing layer upon layer of savory/sweet flavors, bags of black fruits and tons of spicy sparks all within a firm, very finely grained frame, finishing very long and with compelling minerality. This is a staggeringly stunning and very singular Cabernet achievement by Luc Morletbravo! 250 cases were produced, which will be released in the fall of 2019.”

Vieux Telegraphe
Vieux Telegraphe is a name that instantly connotes greatness and profundity in wine. One of the benchmark names in Chateauneuf du Pape, the estate’s wines are legendary for their complexity and longevity. Owned for generations by the esteemed Brunier family, the venerable estate sits in the fabled “La Crau” subzone of Chateauneuf—home of the famous galet soils (only found in select areas in the AOC). These large rocks reflect heat back to the vines at night, creating the intense, powerful wines that top estates like Telegraphe are known for.
