Marcus Goodfellow is one of the most talented winemakers in Oregon. We count ourselves lucky to have had a strong relationship with his winery since its early days under the old name of Matello. He is joined by the equally talented and knowledgeable Megan Joy.

Their wines showcase their microscopic understanding of the potential in the terroirs of the Willamette Valley. Together, they craft wines that continually improve—both in the cellar and vintage to vintage. We love the wines for their coiled power and Burgundian structure, and we stack them enthusiastically & abundantly in our own personal cellars to adore for decades to come.

We’re excited to offer their sparkling wines, a new range that reflects their deep love and admiration for precise and mineral grower Champagne. According to Marcus, they created sparkling wines partly for the challenge, partly because of their proclivities for low-alcohol-yielding sites, and partly because of their love of grower Champagne. The wines are all multi-vintage with significant portions of reserve wines that aged on the lees for up to almost three years. These are terroir-driven works of art from two of the Valley’s finest winemakers.

Don’t miss the releases from Tsai Vineyard, a new-to-the-winery vineyard in a cool north-western pocket of the Yamhill-Carlton. Surrounded by forest and orchards, this vineyard was planted on volcanic soils, which is unusual for the AVA. It is dry farmed, LIVE certified, transitioning to organic, and is home to some of the oldest own-rooted vines in the Willamette Valley.

“Marcus Goodfellow is sourcing fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Willamette… dry farmed and from old vineyards planted to an array of clones. We visited the old, gnarled vines at Durant vineyard in Dundee Hills, planted with Pinot Noir in 1973 and with Chardonnay in 1993, and the Whistling Ridge Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge, planted in 1990. ‘Old vines are still the trump card,’ he says. ‘The vines situate themselves to the site. The old vines give wines that are ethereal, elegant, layered and don’t speak too loud.’ The wines combine layers of pure, ripe fruit, earth and amaro-like aromatics.” -Erin Brooks, writing for the Wine Advocate

Goodfellow Family Cellars Willamette Valley Extra Brut NV 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 27 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“Dusty florals and spices give way to yellow apples and hints of iodine as the NV Extra Brut evolves in the glass. Soothingly round and textured, it sweeps across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and a bead of creamy bubbles. This finishes remarkably clean and pure, leaving a resonance of ripe Anjou pear to linger on. The balance here is unreal. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Blanc de Blancs NV 750ml Displayed Price: $56, that’s $53.20 at 5% off and $50.40 at 10% off, 17 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94 points
“A vivid blend of ripe apples and pears, sweet sage and honeyed florals form an enticing bouquet as the NV Blanc de Blancs Durant blossoms in the glass. This displays immaculate balance, mixing ripe pit fruits and sweet spice with flinty minerals over a luxuriously creamy bead of bubbles. It finishes with admirable length and concentration, adding grip to the finish as enriching notes of raw almond fade slowly. The Durant is a blend of the 2019 and 2021 vintages.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Blanc de Blancs NV 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“Simply stunning, the NV Blanc de Blancs Whistling Ridge bursts from the glass with a whiff of flint and crushed stones, complicating nectarines and ginger spice. This blends ripe orchard fruits with masses of salty minerality and a crystalline bead of massaging bubbles. It leaves a vivid note of sesame seeds that enriches the experience, finishing remarkably fresh and leaving the mouth watering for more. This possesses a beautiful blend of naturally ripe fruit.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars “Vin Soif” Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“Yellow apple, pear, lime flower and peel, almonds, hints of tarragon and pastry dough. In the mouth, it’s more yellow apples and pear, underripe nectarine, lime peel, and a distinct stoniness. Bottled a year early from our normal Chardonnay program, the impetus for this wine was to push for a pretty, nervy, and slightly less lees inflected wine for everyday enjoyment. 12.0% abv and 198 cases produced.”

Goodfellow bottles at the wineryGoodfellow Family Cellars Tsai Vineyard Chardonnay, Yamhill-Carlton 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 8 bottles in stock now
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 93 points
“The medium golden 2021 Chardonnay Tsai Vineyard is ripe with forward aromatics of preserved Meyer lemon, toasted spice, pineapple rind, and gunflint. Medium-bodied and silky on the palate, it has great balanced energy as well as a long, clean finish, with notes of lemon custard on the back palate. Drink 2024-2030.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Tsai Vineyard Pinot Blanc, Yamhill-Carlton 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“The 2023 Pinot Blanc Tsai Vineyard opens with a wickedly fresh bouquet of confectionary spices, stone dust and hints of young peach. This opens with a saline tinge of minerality and zesty sour lime, literally puckering the cheeks as tart orchard fruits cascade throughout. It leaves the palate completely cleansed as sour melon tones fade.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Riesling, Ribbon Ridge 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $28, that’s $26.60 at 5% off and $25.20 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 91 points
“Zests of lemon, wildflowers and hints of gingery spice waft up from the 2023 Riesling Whistling Ridge. This mixes savory and sweet with an abundance of tension as mineral-drenched sour melon and lime settle on the senses. It leaves a pretty inner sweetness and a mouthwatering quality, tapering off with medium length.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Rosé of Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $18, that’s $17.10 at 5% off and $16.20 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“Peach blossoms, wild strawberries, star fruit, green melon, light florals. This is very pretty in the nose, light bodied with plenty of flavor, and brightly refreshing to drink. The bottle disappears quickly. Perfect for sunny days watching the hummingbirds, grilling chicken, and sushi. 82% direct press from the blanc de noir program and 18% saignee from 100% whole cluster ferments of Whistling Ridge and Durant. 12.3% abv and 266 cases produced.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“The 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir shows aromatics of sweet dark strawberry, boysenberry and black cherry fruits. On the palate more dark black and red fruits, coffee, floral, and amaro notes, and an overlying savory, dark and wild spice and kitchen herb. Tannins are fine, but firm on the finish, and the palate is juicy and medium-light bodied. As with all of our Pinot Noirs, fermentations are 100% whole cluster, and relatively cool and slow, with native yeast in small 1.5 ton bins, and free run wine goes directly into barrel where it sits on the lees undisturbed for the duration of elevage. Cooperage is a mixture of new and used larger format (500L) puncheons, and neutral barriques.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93+ points
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Durant entices with a sweetly spiced bouquet of wild blueberries, sweet herbs and hints of cinnamon spice. This is juicy and round, with perfumed wild berry fruits elevated by blood orange as bright-toned inner florals resonate throughout. It leaves a tactile staining of minerality and gently grippy tannins, finishing with a tinge of sour citrus that lingers on.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge is spicy and savory in the glass, leading with a rich blend of steeped plums, cola and rose petals giving way to hints of clove. This is lifted and finessed with pretty red berries and suggestions of cGoodfellow bottles at Vinopolisocoa and inner florals, all guided by fresh acidity. The 2021 tapers off with medium length and a crunchy sensation, leaving just a tinge of fine tannin framing the experience beautifully. Of note, the Whistling Ridge took three hours to blossom, and it was worth the wait.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Heritage No. 17, Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 6 bottles in stock now
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 93 points
“Moving to the reds, the 2021 Pinot Noir Heritage No. 17 comes from the east-facing Durant Vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA and pours a transparent ruby hue. It needs a little time in the glass to blow off its slightly volatile aromas but reveals a spicy profile, with lifted notes of cracked pepper, crushed roses, and wild raspberry. Medium-bodied, it’s spicy with stemmy herbs, fine tannins, and fresh acidity and is toasty with cedar on the finish. It will benefit from another year or so in bottle. Drink 2025-2035. 115 cases were produced.”

Josh Raynolds-Vinous 92 points
“Glistening red. A highly perfumed, incisive bouquet displays scents of fresh cherry, raspberry and baking spices, and a sexy floral nuance builds with air. Sweet and focused on the palate, showing good heft and focus to the intense red fruit, rose pastille and spicecake flavors. Delivers strong, spicy cut on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with resonating cherry and floral qualities. (from the Durant vineyard; 50% whole clusters and all neutral French oak).”
