Hebrart ‘Noces de Craie’ Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut, Champagne, France 2016 750ml $125 special, 1 bottle available
Lisa Perrotti-Brown–The Wine Independent 95 Points “The 2016 Noces de Craies Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Extra Brut is made from 100% Pinot Noir from Grand Cru Ay and was disgorged on 16 March 2021. It offers a compelling perfume of orange blossoms, almond croissant, and spiced apple slices with touches of jasmine tea, fresh ginger, and chalk dust. The palate is open-knit, expressive, and expansive with layers of candied nuts, brioche, and baked apple inspired flavors, framed by very fine, frisky bubbles, finishing with a cerebral chalkiness. Very classy, it has the structure and intensity to age gracefully over the next 12-15 years+.”

Roederer Estate L’Ermitage Brut, Anderson Valley, USA 2015 750ml $57.50 special, 4 bottles available
Jim Gordon-Wine Enthusiast 96 Points “This grand, special-occasion wine is wonderfully complex and layered, but also powerful in the way its toasted walnut, Bosc pear and fresh bread flavors start out strong in the aroma and keep pumping on the palate and through a lingering finish. Nice and dry, tangy but mouthfilling, it’s a sophisticated indulgence. Best now to 2028.

Ruggeri ‘Giustino B.’ Extra Dry, Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene DOCG, Italy 2020 750ml $29 special, 3 bottles available
Not Reviewed, 2021 Vintage presented for reference
Jeff Porter-Wine Enthusiast 90 Points” This is a classic. Vibrant aromas of McIntosh apples mix with lilies and wildflower honey. The wine dances on the palate. A soft and textured mousse offers flavors of green apple and candied lemon zest, finishing with perfectly timed acidity.”
Winery Notes “Intensely straw yellow in colour with a persistent mousse and extraordinarily broad and complex bouquet of aromas. Rich and harmonious, revealing great elegance on the palate.”

Schloss Gobelsburg Sekt Brut Reserve, Niederosterreich, Austria NV 1.5L $89 special, 6 bottles available
Wine & Spirits 93 Points “Here’s a decadent bubbly, as rich and layered as a croissant, with a similar balance of toasty, nutty notes and buttery luzury. Michael Moosbrugger based it on gruner veltliner, augments it with pinot noir and riesling, then ages it for six months in barrel; he ferments the wine a second time in bottle, where he leaves it for at least three years before disgorgement. The veltliner’s earthy fruit gives away the fact that this isn’t Champagne, but it acts like one.”

Varnier Fanniere Grand Cru Vintage Brut, Champagne, France 2015 750ml $119 special, 2 bottles available
Not reviewed, 2013 vintage provided for reference
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 Points (2013)“The 2013 Brut Grand Vintage captures all the depth and intensity of this great Côtes des Blancs vintage. Citrus, graphite, dried flowers, almonds and savory herbs are all amplified in a Champagne of tremendous breadth and transparency. Hints of apricot, tangerine oil and lemon confit linger on the exotic finish.”

Tesselaarsdal

“In 1810, Johannes Tesselaar bequeathed his farmland to his servants and slaves. I named my winery to honour that legacy.” —Berene Sauls, Owner

Hemel-en-Aarde is the perfect terroir for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, featuring stony soils in some of the Southerly most vineyards in the Cape of Africa. The fields are practicing organic and the vines unirrigated. This beautiful coastal territory is like Africa’s very own Côte d’Or.

Berene Sauls, owner of Tesselaarsdal in the Hemel-en-Aarde, travelled an unusual path in the Wine industry. At the age of 19, she started work at Hamilton Russell, one of South Africa’s quintessential wineries not as a winemaker or field worker, but as an Au Pair. After many job changes and promotions took her to every aspect of production inside and outside of the winery, Berene struck out on her own in 2015. She ages her wines in a combination of neutral oak and Amphora, expertly coaxing these high-toned, mineral-driven wines into existence.

Hemel-en-Aarde translates to Heaven on Earth in Afrikans. Once you’ve tasted this amazing Chardonnay, we think you’ll understand why.

Tesselaarsdal Chardonnay, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, South Africa 2021 750ml $36 special, 4 bottles available
Winery Note “Aging: 5 months, 45% amphorae and balanced neutral oak. Elegans pulchritude, an elegant reflection of site, the 2023 Chardonnay delivering a bright and crystalline, with expressive aromatics of white citrus, limestone minerality. With a fresh and elegant finish.”

Domaine Luneau-Papin

“Pierre Luneau-Papin: This estate in Le Landreau, now run by Pierre-Marie Luneau and his wife, Marie, produces arguably the most ambitious and complex wines in the region, all from organically farmed vines.” –Jon Bonne (author of The New French Wine), Punch Drink

“For nine generations, the Luneau and Papin families have been dedicated to producing quality wine. Monique and Pierre Luneau have passed the torch to their son, Pierre-Marie, and daughter-in-law, Marie, who now manage the estate. Certified organic and biodynamic, the estate is now a benchmark in the appellation. The duo’s passion, combined with an “haute-couture” approach to viticulture, makes their estate an exciting and noteworthy contender.” –Wine Advocate

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie La Grange Vieilles Vignes, Loire, France 2022 750ml $21.90 special, 33 bottles available
Yohan Castaing-Wine Advocate 90 Points “The 2022 La Grange is made from grapes grown on schist and mica-schist soils. It has a delightful bouquet of lemon oil, menthol and white fruits, followed by a medium-bodied and juicy texture with bright acids and an energetic, tense and mouthwatering finish. This classic Muscadet could evolve beautifully over the next two to four years.”

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie Clos des Allees Vieilles Vignes, Loire, France 2022 750ml $33 special, 12 bottles available
Importer Note “From Luneau Papin’s monopole, the Clos de l’Allée has a pale straw hue with aromas that delicately dance between salt and citrus. The palate is intricately laced with jasmine, orange blossom, lemon zest, pear sorbet, beach pebbles, and subtle spice. This storied plot was last planted in 1974. This Clos is adjacent to their winery and is the historical cradle of the Luneau family.”

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie ‘Le L d’Or’, Loire, France 2022 750ml $33 special, 12 bottles available
Importer Note “Biodynamic estate vineyard -Vines planted in 1984. Mother rock of granite and gneiss with two micas of the Armoricain Massif. This plot is one of the historical treasures of the Luneau family. It rises up between two villages and has a river running through it.”

Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie Semper Excelsior, Loire, France 2021 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles available
(Not reviewed yet, 2020 vintage presented for reference)
Yohan Castaing-Wine Advocate 91+ Points (2020) “The 2020 Excelsior was crafted from vines planted in 1936 with a massal selection on schist and mica-schist soils. Evoking aromas of herbs, smoke, lemon oil and pear, it’s fleshy and tense with excellent concentration, schist structuring extract and a long, saline finish. This well-made, forward, balanced wine will drink well right out of the gate and over the next decade.”

Domaine Pattes Loup

“These wines are the essence of “Chablis”, but not in a pop-and-pour with oysters kind of way. They are wines to savor and let unfold slowly in the glass or decanter.” –Polaner Selections

“Domaine Pattes Loup is one of the most exciting estates to emerge from Chablis in recent years. Thomas Pico started his tiny estate in Courgis in 2005, just outside of the village of Chablis, under the wings of his friends and fellow organic Chablisiens, Alice and Olivier de Moor. He inherited 2.4 hectares of vines from his family’s estate, which historically produced correct, but uninspiring wines. Motivated to take a qualitative leap in a new direction, and against the wishes of his father, Thomas immediately began a program of strict yield control and a conversion to organic viticulture. This is a rarity in Chablis and a feat of extreme diligence in this often inhospitable vinegrowing region.” -Skurnik Wines

Thomas Pico Domaine Pattes Loup Vaillons, Chablis Premier Cru, France 2019 750ml $79 special, 15 bottles available
(Not reviewed, 2018 vintage provided for reference)
Willliam Kelley-Wine Advocate 93 Points (2018) “Pico produces his 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons from certified organic fruit in the climat of Séchet. Unwinding in the glass with notes of crisp green orchard fruit, almond paste, white flowers and orange oil, it’s medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with an ample core of fruit, chalky structuring extract and a long, saline finish.”
Neal Martin-Vinous 91 Points (2018) “The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru, which is Pico’s only cuvée from purchased grapes, is raised in barrel and vat, and bottled a little earlier, after 21 months. It has an attractive bouquet of lemon curd, patisserie and touches of chai tea, the mineralité surfacing after 10 minutes in the glass. The rather straightforward palate is well balanced with lime and orange zest on the entry and subtle bitterness developing toward the finish. Very fine.”

Domaine Louis Michel & Fils

Domaine Louis Michel & Fils Grenouilles, Chablis Grand Cru, France 2021 750ml $113 special, 8 bottles available
Decanter 95 Points “The vines for Louis Michel’s Grenouilles are from a rocky, sunnier site higher up on the slope. The vines here always benefit from a gentle breeze, adding to the concentration coming from these 70-75 year-old vines. A very long, elegant and profound expression of Grenouilles. This has a fine balance between sweetness of ripe fruit and spice notes to finish.”

Domaine Louis Michel & Fils Vaudesir, Chablis Grand Cru, France 2021 750ml $108 special, 14 bottles available
John Gilman-View From The Cellar 95 Points “Domaine Michel’s parcels in Vaudésir actually have a northerly exposition and are nicely sheltered, so they were spared much of the frost damage and the yields here were only off by about ten percent in 2021. The wine has turned out splendidly, offering up a bright and complex bouquet of lemon, apple, dried flowers, a marvelously complex base of minerality, incipient notes of beeswax and a nice touch of orange peel in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full[1]bodied and very precise, with a great core of fruit, racy acids, superb mineral drive and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is going to be outstanding.”

Racines Wines

“Racines is the Sta. Rita Hills project headed by Etienne de Montille, Rodolphe Péters and Justin Willett. The wines are deep, layered and, not surprisingly, super-expressive with regards to site. The Pinots in particular tend to show notable breadth from a combination of a high percentage of stems, classic winemaking and relatively long aging of around 19 months in barrel.” -Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Racines Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills, USA 2018 750ml $69 special, 7 bottles available
Decanter 95 Points “This Chardonnay is sourced from the same blocks, and crafted alongside, Justin Willett’s bottling for Tyler Winery. It goes to barrel with less gross lees than the Tyler iteration, sees more battonage, as well as a longer elevage in a combination of 500l, 350l and 228l barrels. The result is an interesting conundrum of a more textural and weighty wine but one that simultaneously comes across as more subtle in flavour, and has an almost ghostly, ethereal finish. Recommend to stock up but sit on for two years or so.”

Racines Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills, USA 2019 750ml $79 special, 6 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 Points “The 2019 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict is a powerful, brooding wine. The high percentage of stems (75%) undoubtedly adds savory intensity, but it also masks some site character. The 2019 is a gorgeous wine, but it is also austere and not an especially typical expression of this site. I hope to have a chance to taste it in a decade.”

Racines ‘Sta. Rita Hills Cuvee’ Chardonnay, California, USA 2018 750ml $39 special, 16 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 91 Points “The 2018 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills Cuvée is bright, airy and wonderfully perfumed. Ethereal and gracious, the 2018 lifts out of the glass with striking aromatic presence to match its chiseled, mid-weight personality. This is one of the more nervy, taut Chardonnays readers will come across in 2018, and yet there is lovely breadth that emerges with a bit of time in the glass. Hints of lemon confit, white flower and marzipan linger nicely on the close.”

Racines Wenzlau Family Vineyard Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills, USA 2018 750ml $59 special, 8 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 Points “The 2018 Chardonnay Wenzlau Family Vineyard speaks with tremendous authority. A wine of real direction and personality, the 2018 has so much going on. Pear, lemon confit, white flowers, crushed rocks and dried herbs are beautifully layered. The 2018 is incredibly nuanced, precise and deep.”
