If you’re not familiar with Ca’ del Baio, know that they are a traditionally-styled, family-owned Barbaresco estate in Treiso that’s been crafting wine for over 150 years. Their vineyards are farmed sustainably with biodiversity in mind and no synthetic fertilizers or herbicides. In the winery, they natural yeast fermentation and minimal sulfur for a purer expression of the fruit.
The wines undergo a long and slow maceration before aging in neutral Slavonian oak boti, resulting in fresh and aromatic wines with a rich complexity and glorious tannic structure.
The Autinbej is a blend of the sunniest parcels in the crus of Treiso, Marcarini, and Ferrerre. It’s typically bold and intense with a ripe tannic profile. The Asili cru bottling includes the estate’s oldest vines. This is a long-lived wine with an ultra-classic profile. Finally, we have the Vallegrande. This is their most elegant bottling sourced from vines that surround the winery.
The wines can be pretty wound up on release. If you don’t have the patience for cellaring, give them a healthy decant or pop a day before service to give them the proper time to blossom. At these prices, grab a few extra to enjoy for years to come..

James Suckling 94 points “Sweet berry and cherry aromas with hints of flowers following through to a full body, with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. A long and rich finish. Needs four to five years of bottle age. Try in 2022.”
Wine Spectator 93 points “A briny mineral note in the aroma signals this high-tension red. There is ample fruit and flesh on the palate, with cherry, strawberry, stone and white pepper flavors. Tightens up again on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2038.”
Grapelive 93 points “…There is a lot to love here with this Nebbiolo showing a raw sex appeal in the glass with a cascade of flavors and sensations including rose petals, minty herbs, strawberry preserves, damson plum and kirsch along with black licorice, mineral, cedar, coco and hint of orange rind. The palate is chewy and youthful, but air allows this ruby/garnet and dark brick hued Barbaresco unwind and flow seamlessly in the mouth, this is impressive stuff, especially with matching cuisine and robust food choices. If this one is anything to go by then I’m going to be thrilled by the single cru bottlings and the Asili Reserva, as well as the basic Langhe Nebbiolo, if you haven’t heard of Ca’ del Baio, you should search some out soon.”
Ca’ del Baio Autinbej, Barbaresco DOCG 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $27.50, that’s $26.13 at 5% off and $24.75 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 92 points “The 2020 Barbaresco Autinbej is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Ca’ del Baio. Bright, translucent and full of energy, the 2020 impresses with its finesse and nuance. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, mint and new leather all grace this exquisite, vibrant Barbaresco from Ca’ del Baio. Vineyard sources are Marcarini, Montersino and Ferrere.”
Ca’ del Baio Asili, Barbaresco DOCG 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $42.50, that’s $40.38 at 5% off and $38.25 at 10% off, 17 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 points “The 2020 Barbaresco Asili is one of the most beautiful, pure wines I have ever tasted from Ca’ del Baio. Lifted aromatics and bright red-toned fruits are classic Asili signatures. The tannins will need a bit of time to soften, but all the elements are impeccably balanced. This is impressive stuff, and a gorgeous wine.”
Ca’ del Baio Vallegrande, Barbaresco DOCG 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $34.50, that’s $32.78 at 5% off and $31.05 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points “The 2019 Barbaresco Vallegrande is broad and ample in the glass. Deeply pitched spice notes open first. Dark and mysterious in the glass, with tons of complexity, the Vallegrande is quite virile in feel, with all the elements impeccably balanced. It’s another terrific wine from the Grasso Family. The Vallegrande exudes Treiso character. That makes it quintessential Ca’ Del Baio Barbaresco.”
Ca’ del Baio Vallegrande, Barbaresco DOCG 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $36.50, that’s $34.68 at 5% off and $32.85 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points “The 2020 Barbaresco Vallegrande is a classy, elegant wine. Dark cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, incense, rose petal and gravel are all finely cut. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2020 packs quite a punch. Power and finesse come together here in grand style. Spice, menthol, melted road tar and licorice linger on the ample, imposing finish.”
