“Arterberry-Maresh for under 20?!”
Tan Fruit “Petite Tan Fruit” 2022 750ml $19.50 special, 36 bottlesVinopolnote “Rockstar winemaker Jim Maresh says that this Petite represents the “Chablisienne character” of this particular Chardonnay. We say this is a grand value. Tan Fruit and Arterberry Maresh are riding a swell of popularity nationwide after their recent accolades in Wine Enthusiast magazine. Drink this cool… just twenty minutes in the fridge and celebrate the summer heat.”
New Arrivals “Must Have 2022 Rosés!”
La Mascaronne Provence Rose 2022 750ml $28 special, 36 bottles availableWinery Note “Château La Mascaronne Rosé reveals the essence of the terroir from which it is produced. An exceptional rosé, it derives its quality not only from the grape varieties that comprise its blend but also from the soils on which the estate’s grapevines are planted. , typical Provence varieties, are harvested at the height of ripeness. Made from with grenache, cinsault, syrah and vermentino grapes. Certified Agriculture Biologique.” Le Fraghe Bardolino Chiaretto Rodon 2022 750ml $16.50 special, 24 bottles availableWinery Note “Cherry red with rich purple highlights, Ròdon boasts a complex mosaic of well-defined, very fragrant aromas. Seductive notes of wild rose are the first to emerge, followed by nuances of wild strawberry and redcurrant that linger and complete an elegant bouquet. The palate displays an emphatic crispness and full body, the happy result of a perfect balance between ultra-savoury flavours and a tasty minerality, characteristics that are classic to this terroir, and excellent supporting tannins and acidity. The finish is notably lengthy, and nicely mirrors the aromas offered by the nose.”
Arriving June 23rd
“Gerard Boulay”
The Boulay family have nine hectares in the famed Sancerre village of Chavignol, 8 of which are in the coveted Kimmeridgian “terre blanche” soils of the region including the famed crus of Monts Damnés, La Grande Côte, and Clos de Beaujeu. They have been farming organically since 1990 and harvest everything by hand. Their top wines, aged in a mix of tank and neutral 300L barrels, can age easily for over 20 years, earning Boulay a reputation as a go-to for quality and longevity in a village of Sancerre’s most celebrated vineyards and domaines.
“Siro Pacenti”
Siro Pacenti bought his estate and planted his first vines in 1970. The property is north of Montalcino, in Pelagrilli, and overlooks Siena with 22 hectares of Sangiovese in fresh, clay soils. Pelagrilli is characterized by clayey, sandy soils, sitting at 350 meters above sea level at the base of the Montalcino hill. The wines are elegant and aromatic. In Piancornello, the vineyards grow in more minerally and pebbly soils atop ground rock. The climate here is also hotter, resulting in more structured, potent wines with the sweet, round tannins typical of Sangiovese.
Siro Pacenti Rosso Di Montalcino 2021 750ml $36 special, 36 bottles available Wine Advocate 92 Points “The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino drinks more like a Brunello than it does a Rosso. The wine shows dark but vibrant fruit with blackberry and blackcurrant. There is earthy spice, cola and smoke. The wine is powerful and full throttle (with a 15% alcohol content that you can’t overlook) with a rich, medium-weight mouthfeel. It also shows good structure and young tannins. Production is 15,000 bottles.” Siro Pacenti Brunello Pelagrilli 2018 750ml $59 special, 36 bottles available Wine Advocate 94 Points “In an elegantly designed bottle, the Siro Pacenti 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli delivers lots of dark fruit and blackberry, and the quality of the fruit is bold, fresh and still very much alive. The house style prizes concentration and oak spice, but the detailed-minded winemaking is impeccable. The wine is structured and firm and stands apart in a crowd, but alas, it does show an unfortunate 15% alcohol content. This is a 23,000-bottle release.”
Siro Pacenti Brunello Vecche Vigne 2018 750ml $99 special, 12 bottles available Vinous 94 Points “The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne opens with hauntingly dark florals and balsamic tones, as swirling bring about hints of black currant and crushed stone. This is supremely soft-textured, yet lifted by cooling minerality and bright acidity that guides its crunchy wild berry fruits across the palate. It tapers off with amazing length and potency, drenching the senses with primary concentration, as a framework of fine tannins gently tug at the cheeks. The 2018 Vecchie Vigne is a radiant Brunello in need of cellaring to fully blossom. That said, I don’t remember ever tasting a VV from Siro Pacenti with this much energy. I’m very eager to taste this again with some bottle age.”
Re-Arrivals
Beaux Freres Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2021 $69 special, 6 bottles availableWinery Note “Our Willamette Valley cuvée features fruit grown on select vineyard sites in the Northern Willamette Valley. The wines benefit from the same integrity in the winemaking process as our estate wines. The sites are farmed sustainably and managed to very low yields. We age the wines in the same French oak barrels used in our estate bottling, however the percentage of new oak is intentionally lower. This wine is not fined or filtered.” Beaux Freres Belles Soeurs Pinot Noir 2019 750ml $89 special, 6 bottles availableWine Advocate 96 Points “Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir The Belles Soeurs has alluring wild red and black berry fruits with wafts of garrigue, Earl Grey tea leaves and Angostura bitters. The palate is silky and intense with layered, graphite-tinged fruit and a very long finish that’s notable for its purity and persistent perfume.” Beaux Freres Les Cousins Pinot Noir 2021 750ml $36 special, 24 bottles availableVinopolnote “This second label of Beaux Freres, designed as a special thank-you to wineries most dedicated customers. Truly, a great value for the price!” Composition Pinot Noir WV 2021 750ml $89 special, 13 bottles availableVinopolnote: “The secret is out: Composition is the new project of Bertrand de Villaine. Yes, the de Villaine family that brought us the famed Domaine de Romanee-Conti. The vineyard sits on a south-facing ridge in the southern Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The terroir evokes volcanic soils, cooler temperatures, and an ideal elevation range.”

“Passetoutgrain is a co-fermented blend of pinot noir and gamay—the only red blend allowed under Burgundy’s appellation laws. Almost reminiscent of a northern Rhône syrah, this is a savory and slightly gamey wine that’s still pretty juicy with notes of blackberry and plum. Wines like this are an extremely rare find… this is one for the true wine geeks!”

Feature “Carlton Hill Estate Pinot Noir Library Selections”
In the early 1990’s David Polite purchased a small plum orchard in Yamhill-Carlton with a mind towards converting it to a vineyard but with no experience whatsoever. The going wisdom at the time, he says, was that the best vineyards in Oregon had South and South-west facing slopes, which made his own Eastern facing slopes sub-optimal. However, after making the acquaintance of Willlamette greats like David Lett and Dick and Nancy Ponzi, he came to understand that his own vineyard shared the same aspect as many of the great vineyards in Burgundy!
Thanks to their eastern slope, the vines receive the Sun’s full attention all morning and afternoon and then ample cooling shade in the early evening. This along with his low-intervention wine-making helps to create balanced wines with vibrant berry flavors.
This is a rare opportunity to purchase older vintages of high quality Oregon Pinot Noir. Caiarossa Aria Di Caiarossa Toscana 2015 750ml WAS $33 NOW $29, 49 bottles availableWine Advocate 92 Points “The selection of grapes in this blend has changed a bit, with much younger vines of Syrah, older Alicante vines, filled out by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2015 Aria di Caiarossa goes through 20% new oak and shows a nice richness and velvety mouthfeel. It is immediate and exuberant and a bit sweeter than past vintages.” Caiarossa Toscana Rosso 2016 750ml WAS $66 NOW $59 special, 28 bottles availableWine Advocate 96 Points “The 2016 Caiarossa will be released in September. This wine is a blend of seven grapes—42% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 15.5% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Sangiovese and 1% Alicante. This vintage sees a slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Franc than usual, but I am told that the 2018 edition will see more Syrah instead. The bouquet presents a beautiful first wave of dark fruit that pushes the limits of ripeness but remains safely within the realm of elegance. The aromas are balanced and focused with blackberry, cassis, and light touches of salty or rusty mineral. The wine is not too constructed or big in the mouth, rather is shows a delicate level of elegances that absolutely seals the deal.” Caladan Cabernet Franc 2017 750ml WAS $215 NOW $199, 12 bottles availableWine Enthusiast 96 Points “A top bottling of the variety, this small-production wine is structured and strong, opening reductively, with elements of tobacco leaf, oak and sage. The savory character persists in the form of leather and black pepper, allowing just a touch of sharp red fruit to enter and complement. This wine has further secrets to be revealed; enjoy best from 2027–2032.” Cameron Ramato Pinot Gris Rose 2021 750ml WAS $33 NOW $29, 15 bottles availableVinopolNote: Pinot Gris that spent time on its skins, contributing the barest hint of tannin, a dollop of color and a completely different interpretation of the classic Oregon varietal. Cameron White Oak Orchard Cidre 2021 750ml WAS $28 NOW $25 special, 15 bottles available Cameron White Oak Poire 2020 750ml WAS $29 NOW $25 special, 2 bottles available Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco Albesani 2017 750ml WAS $59 NOW $55 special, 22 bottles availableWine Advocate 94 Points “Fruit from Albesani shows nice sharpness and a compact or complete profile that is typical of Nebbiolo. This site has fared well in this hot and dry vintage with intact aromas of wild berry, mineral and blue violets. The Cantina del Pino 2017 Barbaresco Albesani turns in a strong showing in terms of aromas but tapers out a bit in the palate. In this release of 3,000 bottles, the wine is driven largely by the textural and structural power of the vintage, and the fruit is a bit leaner on the finish right now. It will likely flesh out with time.” Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco Ovello 2017 750ml WAS $59 NOW $49 special, 23 bottles availableWine Advocate 94+ Points “Considering the untimely passing of Renato Vacca in March of 2020, there is a lot of emotion coming back to this wine: It has always been an expression of Barbaresco nostalgia and romanticism, even when its creator was alive and well, working in these vines located directly under his family house. The Cantina del Pino 2017 Barbaresco Ovello bears his winemaking imprint with balance and elegance that never misses a beat. This vintage offers more density and concentration for sure, and the positioning of the Ovello cru overlooking the Tanaro River Valley sets the wine up for open-knit characteristics and suave softness. Those impressions are amplified in this vintage but are not overblown.”

Among the finest producers of Syrah in the world, this family owned winery has been taming vines on the dramatically steep terraces of the Rhone for generations. In the 1800’s Syrah was often used to bulk up Bordeaux wines in bad vintages and was often seen as little more than a workhorse varietal for table wine production. Delas brought Syrah and the Rhone Region itself to new heights of popularity and sophistication.

Delas Cornas Chante Perdrix 2019 750ml $69 special, 35 bottles availableWine Spectator 93 Points “A core of juicy red currant and bitter plum pâte de fruit flavors is brought into nice focus by a racy, chalk-edged structure and an iron spine, while subtle savory and dark olive accents dart in the background. Best from 2022 through 2034. 1,083 cases made, 60 cases imported.” Delas Cote Rotie La Landonne 2019 750ml $279 special, 10 bottles availableDecanter 97 Points “Immediately this has the darkness and aromatic austerity of La Landonne. Very full-bodied, expansive on the palate with mouthcoating flavour and tannin but not heavy. This is seriously tannic, but it’s not tough. Great character, great power and perfect balance. Alcohol is just a little raised, but this is a blockbuster. Around 3,000 bottles made. Fermented in open-top concrete tanks for 20 days, then matured in new and one-year-old barrels for 14 months. Drinking Window 2026 – 2035.” Delas Crozes Hermitage Grands Chemins 2019 750ml $39 special, 21 bottles availableWine Spectator 93 Points “Ripe, showing black licorice and dark plum notes wrapped around each other. This stays vivid and racy in feel, with a lively floral note and swath of dark earth as backdrop on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 3,333 cases made, 218 cases imported.” Delas Crozes Hermitage Le Clos 2019 750ml $59 special, 23 bottles availableWine Spectator 93 Points “Sleek and refined, with a smoldering bay and cast iron hints along the edges of a core of dark cherry and plum preserve notes. Juicy, yet restrained, iron-tinged finish. Drink now through 2030. 500 cases made, 83 cases imported.” Delas Hermitage Les Bessards 2019 $219 special, 36+ bottles availableJeb Dunnuck 99 Points “My favorite release from this estate is consistently their Les Bessards Hermitage, and their 2019 is no exception. Coming from the western part and pure broken granite soils on the west side of this magical hill, it sports a dense purple hue to go with a brilliant perfume of cassis, graphite, scorched earth, burning embers, spring flowers, and peppery herbs. Incredibly complex, layered, and nuanced, with classic Hermitage characteristics, it still stays firmly planted in the ripe, sunny, sexy vintage. Full-bodied, concentrated, and structured on the palate, it has a wealth of tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is pure Hermitage magic that needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years and will evolve for 20-30 years in cold cellars. Hats off to the team at Delas for another incredible wine.” Delas Hermitage Domaine Des Tourettes 2019 750ml $89 special, 25 bottles availableWine Spectator 94 Points “Ripe, fresh, bright and pure, with a racy-edged mix of plum sauce, cherry preserves and blackberry paste flavors underscored with mouthwatering anise, apple wood and sweet tobacco notes. The long finish flows nicely, and this flirts with approachable already, but there’s no rush. Drink now through 2034. 2,083 cases made, 175 cases imported.” Delas St Joseph Sainte Epine 2019 750ml $79 special, 35 bottles availableWine Spectator 94 Points “This flows beautifully, with a ripe, pure and steady beam of cassis and dark cherry preserves that shows good brightness and delineation through the finish, picking up light floral and mineral accents along the way. Seductive in style, with a lovely mouthfeel and sneaky length. Best from 2022 through 2032. 500 cases made, 155 cases imported.” Delas St Joseph Tournon 2019 750ml $44.50 special, 28 bottles availableVinous 92-94 Points “Powerfully scented aromas of fresh black/blue fruits, potpourri, licorice and smoked meat show excellent clarity and vibrant mineral lift. Concentrated boysenberry, cassis and violet pastille flavors are joined by a salty olive note that sneaks in as the wine opens up. Finishes smooth, focused and very long, with broad, fleshy tannins, a hint of smokiness and lingering florality.”

Bodegas Breca Old Vine Garnacha Calatayud 2019 750ml $16 special, 36+ bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points “I loved the nose on the 2019 Breca, which is loaded with spicy red and black fruits as well as notes of sandalwood, dried flowers, herbes de Provence, and some chalky, mineral-like nuances. Beautiful on the palate as well, this medium to full-bodied, elegant, balanced, straight-up gorgeous Garnacha is best drunk over the coming 3-5 years.” Burgo Viejo Licenciado Rioja Reserva 2016 750ml $21.90 special, 16 bottles available
Decanter 95 Points “Bodegas Burgo Viejo is the property of six farming families and comprises more than 200ha of vineyards in the Rioja Oriental region, from where the more full-bodied styles of Rioja are produced (see ‘Regional Profile’, p42). Historically, the bodegas sold their high-quality grapes to neighbouring wineries, until the arrival of the young winemaker Gorka Etxebarria, who saw the potential for them to produce excellent wines themselves. Tempranillo is a firm favourite for this producer, despite Garnacha being the most widely planted grape in the area, and they certainly make a success of it, going by the many accolades they have received over the years. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Distinctly pure, vivid reserva, precise style: limpid fruit, brisk acidity, notable but well balanced oak. Classic. Simon Field MW: Intense colour, powerful aromas of tar and blue fruit; minty savoury, rich, lifted and long; an impressive reserva statement of intent. Pierre Mansour: Classy, spicy black fruit, full, round, generous – depth yet beautifully balanced, very classy, effortless.”
Macizo Ourensan Peixe De Estrada 2016 750ml $24 special, 21 bottles availableWine Advocate 93 Points “In the initial vintage, the top of the range is the 2016 Peixes da Rocha, a blend of grapes from two extreme and cold plots, Santa Mariña de Froxais at 825 meters in altitude and the southeast-facing Bacelo da Cova in Punxeiro at 725 meters in altitude. The two plots have a field blend that includes red and white grapes, even if the main grape is Mencía. Production methods are similar for all three wines—fermentation with full clusters and indigenous yeasts and élevage in used 500-liter French barriques for some 12 months. It has a stony, flinty sensation and is aromatic and floral, with great elegance. It has a very intense palate with pungent flavors, very fine tannins and a mineral, almost salty sensation. 3,500 bottles were filled in February 2018.”

“Arterberry-Maresh”
Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Maresh Vyd 2021 750ml $72 special, 29 bottles availableWine Advocate 98+ Points “The 2021 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard is an arresting wine that grows in bottle over several days, offering singular expression, purity and a touch of magic. Medium ruby, the nose is very complex and offers something new with each return to the glass. A deep core of pomegranate and cranberry sauce blossoms to orange peel, tea leaves, mossy bark and lilac with an array of amaro-like undertones. The palate is medium-bodied and has tremendously concentrated flavors for its harmonious, velvety frame (this sits at only 12.8% alcohol). Layered, dynamic and very long, it stands out as one of the best expressions of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting.” -Erin Brooks

The old 1940s dairy pasture is now fully transformed to 25 acres of Pinot Noir vines whose forest perimeter creates a nearly mystical landscape. The 2021 wine is full of classic features: ripe, dark cherry skins, orange zest, and subtle white flower and miso notes.”

“Eyrie”
Eyrie Estate Chardonnay 2021 750ml $39 special, 24 bottles availableWine Advocate 96 Points “The 2021 Chardonnay Estate offers exotic aromas of ripe peaches, honey, pie crust, tangerine oil and musky floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and expansive with an impressively concentrated core of spicy fruit. Its broad, mouth-coating texture is balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a long, spicy finish with flavor that goes on and on”
“Tan Fruit”
Tan Fruit Tank Fruit Chardonnay 2021 750ml $59 special, 55 bottles availableWine Advocate 97 Points “The 2021 Chardonnay Tank Fruit is composed of fruit from the White Walnut Vineyard, a relatively new vineyard comprising eight acres planted around 2015 in the Dundee Hills. “The genetics that produced this is rare,” winemaker Jim Maresh explains, noting that the diverse clonal material in this vineyard includes 10 different heritage selections. The White Walnut Vineyard cuvée was fermented in oak and finished in stainless steel—the opposite of this 2021 Chardonnay Tank Fruit, which also comes from the White Walnut Vineyard but is fermented in stainless steel and finished in oak—although both wines offer singular exoticism. The Tank Fruit is bursting with intense aromas of peaches, fruit cocktail, lemongrass and orange oil with streaks of spice and herbs. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and seamless, gaining amplitude in the mouth as it releases wave after wave of concentrated fruit. It has a soft frame of flinty accents, and its fresh acidity calls you in for another sip on the long finish.” -Erin Brooks
